Mayor Bill de Blasio and Police Commissioner Bill Bratton presided over a ribbon cutting ceremony today to dedicate the new NYPD Police Academy in College Point, Queens. NYPD leadership, Department of Design and Construction Commissioner Dr. Pena-Mora and academy recruits were all in attendance for the ceremony that took place on the muster deck of the state-of-the-art building. The groundbreaking for the building took place in December of 2009 and the first class of recruits to be trained in the facility began in January 2015.

Over twice the size of the old police academy that is located in Manhattan, this new facility provides capacities, such as mock court rooms and subway and housing training environments. For recruits in the academy, promotes, officers going into specialized unit, and anyone going to in-service training, the building is a major step forward as the NYPD continues to be a national leader of policing in the 21st century.
