The Struggle

R Keith Clontz and Leah Spitz collaborative project. I had the idea of using netting and rope to have an image that looked strong and powerful. I envisioned an image that elicits emotion and not just a pretty girl posing in the water. We all go through struggles in life and I wanted to show how difficult the struggle can be by portraying a girl (myself) trying to get untied from ropes. It may seem completely impossible to pull yourself out of the water, but someone with great strength can pull off the ropes and finally take a deep breath.

Clipped wings, I was a broken thing

Had a voice, had a voice but I could not sing

You would wind me down

I struggled on the ground

So lost, the line had been crossed

Had a voice, had a voice but I could not talk

You held me down

I struggle to fly now

But there's a scream inside that we all try to hide

We hold on so tight, we cannot deny

Eats us alive, oh it eats us alive

Yes, there's a scream inside that we all try to hide

We hold on so tight, but I don't wanna die, no

I don't wanna die, I don't wanna die

And I don't care if I sing off key

I find myself in my melodies

I sing for love, I sing for me

I shout it out like a bird set free

No I don't care if I sing off key

I find myself in my melodies

I sing for love, I sing for me

I'll shout it out like a bird set free

I'll shout it out like a bird set free

I'll shout it out like a bird set free

Now I fly, hit the high notes

I have a voice, have a voice, hear me roar tonight

You held me down

But I fought back loud

''The battle of life is, in most cases, fought uphill; and to win it without a struggle were to win it without honor. If there were no difficulties there would be no success; if there were nothing to struggle for, there would be nothing to be achieved.''

From this morning's walk. Again, I'm loving how crisp this lense is! Trying to stop it down a bit more, but this was hindered by the light.

A person who has struggled in life will always be sensitive towards others, will value people and will be slightly more wise than someone who has never seen it.

Bear Lake National Wildlife Refuge has miles of marshes with abundant wildlife, but it also has a large expanse of salt flats that dry out and crack after the snow melts. A few hardy plants try to grow in the cracks as we can see on this smoky day in southeast Idaho
