At 12:20PM on December 22, 2021 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 20200 block of W Cantara St in Winnetka. The first arriving 50 firefighters took just 36 minutes in a well coordinated offensive fire attack to access, confine and fully extinguish flames within a single three-story residential unit of two occupied floors above a ground level garage. Firefighters quickly and safely evacuated a mobility impaired female resident from a unit adjacent to the fire. No civilian or responder injuries have been reported.

At 12:37AM on July 14, 2020 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 2200 block of E 1st St. Firefighters arrived to find a one story row of commercial units with fire showing. 100 firefighters battled and extinguished the stubborn fire in two hours and 10 minutes. This was an extended operation due to the difficulty accessing all areas of the fire because of the roof collapse. No were injuries reported. At 8:38PM on January 9, 2022 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to the 13300 block of W Arminta St for a reported structure fire. The first arriving fire company found a one story, single family dwelling with heavy fire showing. 46 firefighters took 30 minutes to extinguish heavy fire in a 2,147 square-foot home. All four occupants exited the structure safely prior to LAFD arrival. There were no injuries reported.

North Hollywood Fire Destroys Building by Los Angeles Fire Department

At 9:07PM, the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to reports of an outside fire extending into a structure in the 5400 block of N Tujunga Av in North Hollywood.

Firefighters arrived on scene to find a commercial building with heavy fire showing which triggered a defensive operation. The multi-pronged fight required additional resources and quickly grew to a Major Emergency status incident.

Truck companies raised aerial ladders to deploy ladder pipes while engine companies used wagon batteries and put large diameter hand lines into place. Firefighters ascended a residential high rise across the street to gain the high ground with additional handle lines. High voltage power lines combined with wires down created an additional safety hazard to be factored into the angle of attack of all water streams.

While the fire raged, crews worked aggressively to defend another exposed building, still in the framing stage of construction. Their efforts were successful and the structure remained undamaged.

The fight continued for one hour and 56 minutes before the 111 firefighters, under the leadership of Assistant Chief Corey Rose, achieved a knockdown. There were no injuries reported.

A residential high rise across from the fire was impacted by smoke blanketing the area but there were no medical complaints and firefighters ensured the area was ventilated with all alarms were cleared.

Based on protocol for a fire of this size, LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section responded for the cause investigation and it remains active.

Chatsworth Blaze Destroys Business by Los Angeles Fire Department

At 9:53PM on December 16, 2020 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to 20150 W Sunburst St for a reported structure fire.

The first arriving fire companies found a one story, commercial building with fire through the roof and requested additional resources. The 28,556 square foot building, built in 1981, was well involved in fire and a decision was quickly made to transition to a defensive mode.

Truck companies put ladder pipes into operation and firefighters used large diameter hand lines to hit the target from all sides. Crews successfully defended the adjacent structures from sustaining damage.

Ultimately, over 120 firefighters working under the leadership of Assistant Chief Corey Rose achieved a knockdown in one hour and thirty-four minutes. One firefighter was transported to the hospital with serious but non-life threatening burn injuries.

The concrete, tilt-up building sustained heavy damage, to include roof collapse, which left it dangerously vulnerable to further collapse of the walls. Consequently, the Department of Building and Safety red-tagged the structure for safety purposes. Overhaul operations and cause investigation were held off until morning while fire companies remained on scene in a fire watch. The RS3 Robotic Firefighting Vehicle was also on scene to assist with interior operations if needed through the night.

Fire Consumes Automotive Parts Store and Damages Two Restaurants in Hollywood by Los Angeles Fire Department

The Los Angeles Fire Department received the first of several 9-1-1 calls at 4:21 PM on November 16, 2024, reporting a fire at 1306 North Highland Avenue in Hollywood.

Firefighters arrived quickly at the northeast corner of Highland Avenue and Fountain Avenue to find heavy smoke showing from AutoZone, an automotive parts retailer anchoring a 10,100 square foot one-story L-shaped strip mall that shared a roof and attic with an adjoining delicatessen and sushi restaurant.

Assuring all occupants had safely evacuated AutoZone, first arriving firefighters, bolstered by additional responders, commenced an unwavering attack with handlines on ever-growing flames deep within the auto parts store for a half-hour, until conditions became untenable due to visible structural compromise.

As those fierce flames fed by contents of the auto parts store spread within the attic to heavily impact the northern section of Fat Sal's Deli and the adjacent Sushi Ajito, a well-coordinated transition was made to defensive operations as 124 LAFD responders under the command of Assistant Chief Douglas Lewis worked tirelessly for an additional ninety minutes to fully extinguish the major emergency blaze before any off premises buildings could be affected.

No injuries were reported.

Though 9-1-1 callers initially reported an "explosive fire" involving a "battery" within the auto parts store that employees sought unsucessfully to control with fire extinguishers, the specific cause of the fire remains under active investigation.

PANORAMA CITY - In the early morning hours of Monday, July 20, 2020, it took 60 LAFD firefighters one hour and 42 minutes to extinguish the one-story commercial building in the 14500 block of W Arminta Street (business name/type unknown) that was consumed by flames. Heavy fire and wires down blocking the access point caused firefighters to battle with a defensive posture, applying heavy streams including ladder pipes. No reported injuries. Multiple Businesses Saved in Downtown LA by Los Angeles Fire Department

At 5:35PM, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1400 block of South Long Beach Avenue in Downtown Los Angeles. With fire showing through the roof of a one story commercial building (doing business as I-Catcher Graphics), the responding companies immediately entered a defensive mode and requested additional resources.

Within minutes, the rear portion of the roof collapsed and an emergency traffic radio transmission warned of 'wires down', creating additional hazards to negotiate. With adjoining businesses on three sides of the fire building, firefighters focused both on extinguishing the blaze and defending the exposed structures. Crews deployed heavy streams through appliances (portable monitor and ladder pipes) and large diameter hand lines. Firefighters on the ground applied copious amounts of water through the front while additional firefighters positioned on the roof tops of the uninvolved, exposed buildings targeted the hard to reach areas.

Over 140 firefighters, under the leadership of Incident Commander Assistant Chief Carlos Calvillo, achieved 'knockdown' in one hour and 22 minutes with no injuries reported.

The well-orchestrated and doggedly fought battle successfully defended the fire from extending into any other buildings, saving an untold amount of money and property.

LAFD Arson and Counter-Terrorism Section (ACTS) is actively investigating the cause while the dollar loss is being tabulated.

One Man Dies Overnight in a South LA Commercial Fire by Los Angeles Fire Department

CENTRAL-ALAMEDA - A late-night commercial fire destroyed an industrial building and killed one man inside of his business.

In the last few remaining minutes of Monday, May 3, 2021, at 11:57 PM, the alarm went out to alert firefighters of a commercial building engulfed in flames on the 1800 block of East 57th Street. Firefighters immediately recognized the need to use defensive tactics and fight this fire with copious amounts of water from the exterior. The Incident Commander called for additional fire crews, making it a Greater Alarm incident. Firefighters positioned themselves on all sides of the building to protect the many surrounding structures. Firefighters protected adjacent buildings from all but minor flame impingement.

LAFD's robotic firefighting unit was utilized during the incident. RS3 was able to enter the structure and apply water to harder-to-reach areas without exposing firefighters to the collapse risk of the burned out structure. Ultimately, sixty-seven firefighters extinguished the flames in seventy-two minutes.

After the fire was out, firefighters discovered that, tragically, one man had perished inside. The Coroner responded and met with the family to verify his identity. The family reported that he was a carpenter and often worked during the late evening and early morning hours. The wood and materials from his business appear to have added to the intense fire load within the building, causing the fire to grow extremely fast. Crews remained on scene overnight to ensure the debris did not reignite.

The cause of the fire is under active investigation.

Strip Mall Fire Stopped by Los Angeles Fire Department

At 9:47PM, the Los Angeles Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 13600 block of W Vanowen St. Over 95 firefighters stopped this fire from destroying multiple units and achieved full extinguishment in just over an hour.

Boyle Heights Fire Proves Stubborn by Los Angeles Fire Department

At 12:37AM on July 14, 2020 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 2200 block of E 1st St. Firefighters arrived to find a one story row of commercial units with fire showing. 100 firefighters battled and extinguished the stubborn fire in two hours and 10 minutes. This was an extended operation due to the difficulty accessing all areas of the fire because of the roof collapse. No were injuries reported. LAFD Arson Section responded for the cause investigation, per protocol for a fire of this size.

Wilmington Auto Yard Fire by Los Angeles Fire Department

At 4:36AM on November 28, 2020 the Los Angeles City Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the 1900 block of East I St in Wilmington. 26 firefighters battled a deep seated fire in a large auto parts yard and extinguished the non-injury fire in 40 minutes.
