Many old abandoned structures feature hazards such as unstable structures, unsafe floors, broken glass, the presence of unknown chemicals and other harmful substances (most notably asbestos), stray voltage, and entrapment hazards. Other risks include freely roaming guard dogs and hostile squatters. Some abandoned locations may be heavily guarded with motion detectors and active security patrols, while others are more easily accessible and carry less risk of discovery.

Cerovačke špilje 13. VIII. 2002

Among the most renowned and significant speleological structures are the Cerovac Caves , located in the southern part of “Velebit Nature Park ”.

This 3-tier complex (Lower Cave , Middle Cave and Upper Cave ) features around 7 km of explored channels. The first 700 m of the Lower and Upper Caves have been prepared for tourist visits.

These caves abound in traces from the distant past. In addition to large quantities of archaeological findings, they are also among the largest discovery sites of the cave bear in Croatia . One may easily spot claw marks gorged into the cave walls as the bears moved against them.

Water has worked for thousands of years to create dripstones. It is therefore vital to treat these cave ornaments with care and not touch them, as just a single careless move may put an end to a process that has been going on for decades.

The temperature in the caves is between 5o C and 11o C - warmer clothing, a head cover, and comfortable shoes are recommended.

How to reach: The Cerovac Caves are located 4 km from Gračac along the road towards Knin. If you intend to take the motorway, please take the exit to Sveti Rok. The distance between Sveti Rok and Gračac is 25 km.

Voda svojim konstantnim kapanjem nastavlja tisućama godina star proces gradnje siga.

One among the few least destroyed structures in Hampi, Elephant Stable is a major tourist attraction. This long building with a row of domed chambers was used to ‘park’ the royal elephants. There are 11 domed tall chambers; some of them are inter- connected. The center one is specially decorated and big. Probably the musicians and the associated band troupes had been using this during ceremonies involving elephant processions.

The whole building looks symmetric with respect to this central hall. The tower of the central hall resembles (though mostly destroyed) more like that of temples. However the five pairs of domes on either side are of Islamic in style. They are better preserved and of alternating patterns.

Metal hooks (used to tie the elephants) on the inside roof can be seen. At the rear of each hall are small manhole type openings for the mahouts to enter the elephant compartments. You reach here through the Zenana Enclosure. From here you proceed to the Guard’s Quarters and then may be to the Ranga Temple located a bit south of it all.

I've added several different random color schemes to Structure Synth.

The image demonstrates the use of the 'color random' operator, for different color pools:

set colorpool randomhue

set colorpool randomrgb

set colorpool greyscale

set colorpool list:orange,white,white,white,white,white,white,grey

set colorpool image:filename.PNG

These schemes are described in more details on my Syntopia blog.

This update necessitated a few changes to the underlying random number generator system: the Eisenstein Engine in Structure Synth is now powered by two independent Mersenne Twister streams. And not only does that sound sexy - it also ensures that structures made from a specific random seed can be reproduced on different platforms.

"Bridge 1"

STRUCTURES is a series of generative art pieces the explores the constructions of our world by taking photographs of man-made and natural structures and placing them into a new structure. This process semi-randomly fragments and rearranges the photographs into a grid of my design. I'll often run the images through this process several times, using various grid structures along the way.
