I went with James to experience The Strokes' 15 minutes of fame. I was already suspicious of a band which had allowed its label to replace its moderately titillating album cover with something innocuous. The venue was a joke: volume was positively low, and finding myself literally penned in in order to be allowed to drink I didn't know whether to say bah! or baaaa!!! Julian Casablancas acted jaded, and turned his back on the whole situation at one point. I knew how he felt.
