Mei is always happy to encounter new plants, especially when their leaves are hearted-shaped, like this "String of hearts", dangling from well above her head, and going where knows where...She'll probably follow the chain those leaves are part of, lose herself in the forest of her friend Totoro, the big and fluffy creature, and dream of flying over the big trees with him.
When you have two love cats like Bat and Maggie it' s very hard not to grab the camera / iPhone and shoot.M took a slew of photos and sent these along to me .I just had to share these sweethearts again, especially today. Happy Valentine's Day❣️♥️❤️❤️♥️❤️🐾🐾🐾🐾

Ceropegia woodii is a flowering plant in the genus Ceropegia (Apocynaceae), native to South Africa, Swaziland, and Zimbabwe. It is sometimes treated as a subspecies of the related Ceropegia linearis, as C. linearis subsp. woodii. Common names include chain of hearts, collar of hearts, string of hearts, rosary vine, hearts-on-a-string and sweetheart vine.
The species was discovered in 1881 by John Medley Wood, curator of the Durban Botanic Gardens, hanging from rocks on Groenberg in Natal at an altitude of 1800 feet. Thirteen years later, in 1894, he sent a living plant to Kew. Its trailing habit, neat appearance and tolerance of neglect, made it an ideal plant for hanging baskets. The plant that had been sent to Kew subsequently flowered, providing the material for Plate 7704 of Curtis's Botanical Magazine published in 1900. The prolific botanical artist Matilda Smith prepared the plate, while the Kew taxonomist N. E. Brown produced a detailed description, naming the plant after its discoverer. My Ceropegia woodii It is a trailing plant - not a vine. I looped stems over the top of the pot placing small rocks on them to keep them in contact with the soil. They rooted and sent out multiple stems which I looped over the top. Nov. 2021
My Ceropegia - String of Hearts - in my succulent collection. It's over 4' long. It doesn't have tendrils to grab other stems but the leaves have a curved stem that entangles other stems and leaves. Aug.
This edit took many hours as I didn't have a large enough backdrop to photograph it on.

I bought this in Dec 2020 online. It arrived in a tiny 2" pot with only 3 stems. It's now covering the top of the hanging pot it's in and blooming. Ceropegia woodii In my collection. Nov. 2021.
My sweet old Rosary Vine has once again given me seeds that float like tiny fairies through my living room.

Saint Valentine's Day or Valentine's Day is a holiday on February 14. It is the traditional day on which lovers express their love for each other; sending Valentine's cards, donating to charity or gifting candy. It is very common to present flowers on Valentine's Day.
The holiday is named after two men, both Christian martyrs among the numerous Early Christian martyrs named Valentine.
The day became associated with romantic love in the circle of Geoffrey Chaucer in High Middle Ages, when the tradition of courtly love flourished.
The day is most closely associated with the mutual exchange of love notes in the form of "valentines." Modern Valentine symbols include the heart-shaped outline and the figure of the winged Cupid. Since the 19th century, handwritten notes have largely given way to mass-produced greeting cards. The mid-nineteenth century Valentine's Day trade was a harbinger of further commercialized holidays in the United States to follow.
The U.S. Greeting Card Association estimates that approximately one billion valentines are sent each year worldwide, making the day the second largest card-sending holiday of the year behind Christmas. The association estimates that women purchase approximately 85 percent of all valentines.

So we are back in Astoria around Memorial Day and taking day trips to other parts of Queens, etc. Our daughter volunteers at the Queens Historical Society but hasn't checked out some of the other historic places nearby ... so we headed off to Flushing and ....

I needed orchid potsoil and I went to the garden center. But why did I do that?? They must ban me from all garden centers :P

I meant to upload these yesterday since it was Rob's b.d. and he took these shots, of a plant from our daughter, at my request. I will have to ask her the name of the plant but I didn't know it flowered and then it did and I thought the flowers very lovely and unique :>)
I’m happy that my String of Hearts is doing well in the current spot I have picked for it. There’s lots of new growth and the strings are looking healthy (at least I hope so).
