Candid eye contact street photography from Glasgow, Scotland. This cigarette doesn't appear to be relieving much stress for her here! A somewhat unhappy reaction to my lens but a great resulting image. Enjoy!
Trying to get the puppy and all the other animals sorted so I can spend 3 days in the tropical climate that is Zurich at the moment visiting my less than patient mother. Stress doesn't even begin to describe how I feel right now, but this gatekeeper seems to be expressing it pretty well!!
See you all in a few days
Ethics statement: Photographed from the shore, from a respectful distance, w/tele lens, so as not to disturb the resting otters. @seaottersavvy (seaottersavvy.org) has important otter viewing guidelines and great sea otter information
This pose was part of a playful interaction between mama and her pup, a beautiful thing to witness, with the caveat that I’m super aware of not creating any stress or disruption. Otters already expend huge amounts of energy just to stay warm, and mother otters use that much more to care for their pups. Any extra energy spent to evade or be on alert for humans is energy they can’t afford to spare.
A few mothers with pups were a good distance from shore, enjoying a respite from boat traffic during the time I shot this image.

The train is just passing over the switched diamond at slow speed as there was a restriction in place because of the warm weather and Network Rail staff were on site to keep an eye on things (note the white painted rail sides to help reflect sunlight) . On this particular day, temperatures only reached about 24C, but 40C was forecast for early the following week which would mean a real risk of rails buckling
Big stress getting ready for a software release at work this week. But nothing calms me down like watching a sunset reflected in the Great Salt Lake.
