Dan suggested I take this to show the patterns of the sun coming through the trees. I still had a polarizer on my lens from photographing the mountain, had no tripod, and was getting tired and lazy. I thought it was too dark in the woods, but I took it anyway. It has a cluttered look, but is a typical Oregon stream.

A small stream through Kvačianska dolina (Kvacany valley) in Northern Slovakia. I spent an entire day hiking this valley and its neighboring Prosiecka dolina on my way back. (Canon Rebel Ti, Canon EF 28-90mm II, Fuji Velvia 100, tripod)

You would think forever, but I am standing at the bottom of a valley that is over 100 feet deep. The water will win.

If you walk through the Dunmow Cutting towards Dunmow you'll come across a raised walkway area which takes you over this small, apparently very clean, stream.

Stream Cruiser dragonflies (Didymops transversa) typically patrol streams and small rivers, but often perch well away from water and low to the ground. This one was perching about 1 foot off of the ground in a very dry, sunny oak woodland at Occoneechee State Natural Area. In the North Carolina Piedmont they are most abundant in April and May, with occasional records during the summer months through early September.
My brother & his 2-year old daughter landed up at our place. This created a flurry of activity, with the neighbor's kid joining in. A ball got caught in the palm tree, which was released by a well-directed jet of water.
This photo was taken a few minutes (before or after) the event.
A tiny stream flows from the cliffs, southwest of Independence Mine at a higher elevation. The terrain becomes alpine tundra and scattered, lichen-covered boulders litter the landscape. This little stream runs clear and cold across a cushiony green carpet of moss, breaking up this otherwise harsh mountainside with a touch of softness and warm glow. It made a delightful bed upon which to lay and listen to the sounds of flowing water, ptarmigan, pikas and squirrels foraging amongst the stones. It was warmer as long as the sun was shining and the wind stayed calm, but the weather can change quickly and a warm, early fall day in the upper elevations of Hatcher Pass can turn freezing in an instant. The sun dips behind a cloud or mountain, wind picks up and an ill-prepared hiker will find their way quickly back down the mountains.
