Fragments scatter like mist,
each one a breath exhaled by nothing.
The koan hums beneath thought—
a stream under frost.
Not seeking joy,
you find the still smile
of an autumn morning.
in between the kids' soccer games last weekend I had a chance to explore for a few minutes along a new nature walk in our town. so pretty, I need to go back for more.
happy bokeh wednesday!
An Eastern Sierra Nevada stream reflects autumn aspen colors.
This is an older (by a year or so) photograph of a stream that I have photographed before — and I have shared other photographs of it here. It is actually a spot that I frequently pass by, often stopping but typically not photographing. In some ways the subject can seem like a bit of a one-trick pony, and it is often photographed in pretty much the same way. But I stopped on this afternoon and liked the light, especially the bright aspens and their reflection in the water.
On a technical note, this is a somewhat challenging kind of photograph to make. The difficulty is that there is a very huge range of luminosity values between the brightly sunlit golden aspen leaves and the much darker creek running through the shadows. In the early days of digital photography this might have required a blend of two images, each optimized for either the bright or dark tones. But with a fairly modern camera it is now possible to capture a useful exposure and post-process it while retaining good quality.

The streams are really moving after the almost non stop rain we've been having lately.
5 exposures merged in Lightroom.
A mountain stream is a photograph I took in July 2021 while walking through Glencoe in the Scottish highlands.
I trudged through the forest for hours today and it really paid off. I found several dragonflies that were new to me.
Endless streams all flow to the sea. I would be beside the stream for a long time, but also like a lot of thoughts, feeling as if all the hard put water in general, there is no return of the same!
I must have taken hundreds of shots of the patterns made in the streams and runoff of the thermal features while I was in Yellowstone! I loved how the blue sky (which I didn't see very much of!) made those blue glints across this image.
The scent by this stream in the woods is sulphur-like, like that of a match. The colour is original, not photoshopped.
We have a little stream that flows through the woods behind our house. It's smaller sometimes, but there's been a lot of rain lately. If you walk along the stream for a while, you'll spot little fish and frogs swimming and hopping along.

Il tempo, come questo ruscello, sotto un fogliame sempre mutevole, scorre silenzioso. E ci si immagina che Ofelia possa sbucare da un momento all'altro su queste onde...
We discovered this trail last weekend at Reinhardt Redwood Regional Park. The surrounding woods are incredibly dense full of mosses and ferns. The place is almost like a mini rainforest with its own microclimates. I can't wait wait to explore that park again.
