Storm clouds approach.

Very unsettled weather here in the East of England just lately.

The moisture rises from the earth warmed by the recent sunshine.

Another storm last night, did not have to drive as far, taken from Tropical FruitWorld near Murwillumbah, NSW, Australia

Came across this old hail storm image (2012) while sorting some files. Lucky with the daylight lightning catch.

I suppose the question is why would you walk along the prom on a day like this. Apart from getting soaking wet as he had a normal jacket and jeans on there is the danger of debris being thrown up. I think he had a hangover and wanted to clear his head.😊

I had gone out here hunting for Tiger Beetles. It wasn't a good day for that because this storm blew in. I took 4 series of photos of this storm as it approached. I never did more than put the panoramas together for most of the photos. Years ago I posted one of those panoramas which was the very first series. A few days ago I went back and did a more thorough edit of the other 3 series because I thought I would like to have a print of this storm. This photo is the second series which I decided I liked better than the others. This photo is a combination of 24 photos shot in portrait mode in 2 rows of 12 covering about 135 degrees of the horizon. All of the photos were taken hand held. The use of a tripod was not a possibility because the wind was blowing about 50 mph and I was having trouble standing relatively still in the wind. It was surprising that the panorama stitched so well. Torrential rain with hail was no more than about a half mile away at this point. The last series of panorama photos was taken just two minutes after this set when the rain arrived and I had to retreat to the car.

During a severe storm this tree was uprooted and fell across the street. Two cars were buried underneath the tree. Fortunately noone was injured.

This windy picture from 2018 was taken with Mamiya RB67 and Ilford FP4.

Here's something a bit different as the last image of my storm chasing series. On this day (day 5 of the trip), this storm produced some great lightning, but it was this image, taken long after dark, with a little bit of structure visible each time the lightning flashed, that I liked best. I doubt this will be many people's favourite, but I like it a lot.

Thanks to everyone who has faved and, especially, who has commented on the 10 storm chasing images I've published. It has really meant a lot to me. Thanks, too, most of all to Mike Olbinski, storm chaser extraordinaire, who made it all happen!

If you'd like see more images I took while storm chasing, both this year and last year, take a look at my Storm Chasing album.

Captured out of our car window near Spokane Washington. The sky was really black as you see here with the sun shining in the foreground. Motion blur due to going down the highway at 100Km /hr. :-)

We were on our Harley, cruising the backroads, but had to stop and get this photo.

It was worth getting drenched.... I think.....

Liberty Hill, Texas. Storm developed very quickly and I was positioned in front of its path, like an idiot. Worth it for this shot though. Quite spectacular!

Sea Ranch Winter Storm - 2

December 29, 2021

violent storms on the Great Plains are notorious for the damage they can do...and for that reason much of the critical infrastructure such as power and cable lines are buried underground...additionally more storm-proof metal poles are being used such as the one on the far left above which leads to a water treatment plant that serves thousands of homes.

I ventured down to Barton on Sea yesterday as there are quite a few pathways further up from the rocks where you can shoot from in relative safety.

I went for some grey moody photos but the sky had other ideas and a beautiful sunset unfolded.

However it was challenging, the horizontal winds were relentless and I was faced with the usual challenges. I had my tripod down low and was wiping my lens constantly, it wasn't actually raining but there was seaspray flying everywhere. There was a beautiful dramatic afterglow but unfortunately most of the shots by that point were either cloudy or just not sharp enough. I will revisit them in a few days, but I think most of them will have to go!.

But where is our place in this immense harmony of creation?Nature is bigger than us.
