After the tornadoes in south central Nebraska that afternoon. Storms were still percolating and still severe enough to produce what I'm looking for... That wouldn't happen again that day... Oh the structure on those severe storms were truly photogenic. Some of the best Nebraska outflow boundaries of 2018 were in my viewfinder that day.
I bet you folks all thought I was done with this set... I had a long drive back home that late afternoon. The sun was starting to drop. I was riding alongside the storm that I had just been chasing all afternoon. Some incredible light on the backside of this storm was just to good to pass up. Pulled over... and grabbed these final shots after the afternoon.
If your patient enough to wait, because it takes time. One can get some captivating perspectives after the storm... These are good examples! An excellent way to end this chase day!

We pulled way north and got back into southern Nebraska. Now on the backside of this thunderstorm. Intense cc lighting was to good to pass up.
We pulled off just north of Alma Nebraska. Pointed the lens due south and captured some of the best lightning of 2015

A few hours after sunset the first of the storms were entering our area from the due south southwest. I wouldn't be exaggerating if I said that this storm was gaining strength as if crept slowly ever so closer.
The amount of cloud to cloud and cloud to ground lightning was excessive. Excessive & Impressive. The video from this night says it all.
Enjoy these captures from this evening. Some of the best lightning I've caught in YEARS!

Like a stormchaser I had the luck to have bad weather last night.
So I took my camera, a portion of patience and made this picture.
When finished I changed my clothes for dry ones!
Location is Vijlen in the Dutch province of Zuid-Limburg.

Just to the west of Odessa Nebraska...
This cell was really taking good shape. It was tightening with visible rotation. Plus with both storms now centering in on my location, I had to either get packed up and move to another location farther south or stay here just take in the show.
The road network isn't the best for making fast moves south due to the Interstate & Platte River less than 3 miles to my south. Next exit was about 4 miles to my west & that would have put be right under this storm.
The finial decision was easy. I was already set up & was going to stay the course til it forced me to leave.

South Central Nebraska, early May 2012. No chasing this day due to work late. Afternoon Storms were predicted that afternoon & evening. Slow movers they were to be.
Off work & I was in luck. The dryline had stalled right over south central Nebraska that afternoon & the explosion of billowing thunderheads erupted. Billowing picturesque Thunderheads. Some of the most photogenic cells I caught in 2012.
Wicked Photogenic Severe Storms developing just to my east and & another batch of developing severe storms right over my head & moving the northeast. What a afternoon of Light & Severe Storms... Click Click Click!!!!

Severe Warnings popped up for this lone cell by Oconto Nebraska with a nice TVS marker just south of the city. It was my calling to get my gear together and make a small jaunt north on Hwy 2 from Kearney Nebraska. This storm was to be in the Miller Nebraska (northwest of Kearney) area within the hour and I wasn't going to miss this show when its this close to home.
No other chasers on this storm and it was just this lone thunderstorm and me! Beautiful LP structure with clearly visible rotation on this storms' time lapse. Couldn't have asked for a better landscape setup with the pure flatness of northern part of South Central Nebraska.
Storm died out as this storm cell scooted almost directly due east it still had some luster left in her and she was showing off. Beautiful billowing thunderheads to end this chase day!

On Wednesday there was a pretty epic storm after work, so after watching the lightning pass from the bedroom, I chased it into town in the hope of the epic light you sometimes get as storms clear.
In the end, it never really kicked off, but I did get some nice moody shots from the quayside which is nice, since most of mine to date have been under lovely blue skies.
For some reason, this shot feels like a screenshot from a computer game to me! Not sure why..

I was late to the game on this one after the mesoscale discussion had everything to my east and models had cells developing into northern Kansas. I took the risk and missed out on the eastern Nebraska severe weather that afternoon.
Though I was late I wasn't out of the game as I approached from the south back into Nebraska and got into position for the severe warned cells that had just produced a tornado 25 mins before my arrival to my north. Excellent structure as the cells moved to the due south... I was in for a supercell photographic treat!

Well its be close to a month since I've actually been out chasing. July 2019 in South Central Nebraska has been hot and dry... for the most part. Another reason for my absence is my trusty storm chasing truck is on her last leg. I've had transmission problems and the wheel bearings are going out on 2 of the tires. Its 20 years old and she has taken good care of me and my storm chasing adventures over the past. I'm going to have to retire her instead of putting more money into the till for her to get fixed. I have new truck being custom built for storm chasing in 2020. She has been ordered and will be picking it up in September.
Oh yeah... we have had severe storms in the State of Nebraska, both West and East throughout the month of July. By the time they would even get to our location in the South Central Region of the state....they were just rain showers. More flooding rains to the east a about a week ago 3rd time for some of the folks in the state. I'm sure the farmers are not to happy and are waiting for harvest to start.
So with that being said...I did get out just once in July. On a night that the storms were perking and it was late. Extremely tired but you all know when it comes to lightning, I don't miss a beat! Opportunities are rare this time of year and I really never miss a storm. Especially if it is close! I couldn't resist!
