Lioni Prime Meats in Bensonhurst, Brooklyn definitely caught our eye with its #signage overload including the gorgeous #neonsign complete with #script letterings and twinkling ✨ stars. Photo from 2012 appears in our book “Store Front II-A History Preserved”.
Pitkin Avenue Bootery in Brownsville, Brooklyn was in business for over 40 years before it closed in 2011. We loved their #vintage #signage complete with the #handpainted shoes and #script lettering. We also love their "lobby" style entrance with the deep window 👞👢displays and the kiddie horse ride out front. Photo from 2009 appears in our book "Store Front II - A History Preserved."

We are highlighting one of our favorites, Zig Zag Records in Sheepshead Bay, Brooklyn. Although you can no longer shop at Zig Zag as it closed in December 2010, there are still many independently owned #recordstore in NYC to purchase the more than 500 rereleased #vinyl albums special to this day. Our #analog photo of Zig Zag Records appears in our book “Store Front: The Disappearing Face of New York.”
Awesome old Fairmont, WV storefront with beautiful curved glass in both the windows and doors. Hang in there, little storefront, maybe someone will rescue you!
A full storefront area is included, allowing customers to peruse their options for arrangements.

Joe's Dairy in the South Village was founded in 1977 but was operating as a dairy store called Frank and Al's Dairy for over 40 years prior. It specialized in homemade Mozzarella both regular and smoked flavors, which were made on premises. In this photo taken in 2008 for our book "Store Front: The Disappearing Face of New York", the owner's father is relaxing outside the storefront after having hydrated and marinated sun-dried tomatoes 🍅 which they also sold at the shop. Sadly this Italian cheese shop closed in 2013, which came as a surprise to many but the owner Anthony had told us in 2008 that "When I am ready to retire, it (Mozzarella making) will probably be a lost art in my family because I have a daughter but I won't allow her to do this. It's a lot of hard work. It's not that a woman couldn't do it, but you have to get up really early and work long hard hours." Full interview and photo appears in our "Store Front: The Disappearing Face of New York".
