I went for a bit of an artistic feel on this one trying to create some mood by lowering the saturation of certain colors. The Stone Arch Bridge can be seen on the right.

Constructed in 1882, the historic Chicago & Northwestern Railway Stone Arch Bridge is is a popular stopping point along the Stone Bridge Trail that today runs along the former railway bed between Rockton and Roscoe in Winnebago County, north of the City of Rockford. The double-arch bridge, which crosses over South Kinnikinnick Creek, is made of dolomitic limestone. The bridge replaced an earlier wooden structure, and was a key element in the local sand quarry commerce which supplied Chicago, 90 miles to the east, with the necessary elements for masonry and concrete construction materials.
The C&NW RR Stone Arch Bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.
Now outside of downtown Kansas City, the Kansas City Southern OCS or BKCKC heads south for its round trip dinner train from KC to Amsterdam, MO. Seen here with the A-B-A set of F units, as the engineer puts the KCS 1 in run 8 for the trip upgrade while crossing the 94 year old Stone Arch bridge over the Blue Parkway on the KCS Pittsburg Sub. We made a quick stop at this park on our way home from our road trip. It is in far western MD and is one of my fav spots in Garrett Co. When the 80-foot span was erected in 1813, it was the largest single-span stone arch bridge in the US and was an important link on the National Road from 1813 - 1933. HFF!
Built on a former rail bed dating back to the 1850s, the Stone Bridge Trail provides a pathway through the gently rolling hills, wooded areas and farmland of the Winnebago County countryside. The trail runs along the former Chicago & Northwestern Railway bed between Rockton and Roscoe, north of the City of Rockford.
This view shows the trail as it passes over the old Chicago & Northwestern Railway Stone Arch Bridge. Built in 1882, the double-arch bridge was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1993.

A spot that many have shot at, myself included, many times. But I'll continue to show up there when decent power and light does the same.
Such was the case last fall when the Steelton local was running with a GP59 leader.

Come take a little stroll with me
Down to the old stone bridge
Where we can sit and rest awhile
Upon the grassy ridge
Down at the waters edge.

Gleason Falls, Hillsborough, New Hampshire. Road trip adventures are my favorite. If you've never been to Hillsborough NH's five stone arch bridges, they are worth a visit. The bridges were constructed with great precision, and cut to exact size, as each one had to fit perfectly. There is no mortar holding the stones together, as limestone mortar was not trustworthy at the time. The fact that this bridge and three others nearby support daily traffic and were built 170 years ago is truly a marvelous engineering feat. If you bike or drive to Gleason Falls from town, you will also see Carr Bridge on the way, a beautifully constructed dual arch stone bridge.
Along the drive to the estate is this wonderful old stone arch bridge, with daffodils blooming along the bank. I found it so charming that I produced versions in varying tones and styles [so take your pick!]

Thinking spring was here, Minneapolis had to bring back a little reality and dump a few fresh inches of snow.
Hoping this is winters last gasp before everything starts to bloom. Ice sheets blanket the shoreline of the Mississippi River along the Stone Arch Bridge.
Per Wiki... The Stone Arch Bridge is a former railroad bridge crossing the Mississippi River at Saint Anthony Falls in downtown Minneapolis, Minnesota. It is the only arched bridge made of stone on the entire length of Mississippi River, and also the second oldest next to Eads Bridge. The bridge was built to connect the railway system to the new Union Depot, which at that time was planned to be built between Hennepin Avenue and Nicollet Avenue. The bridge was completed on 1883, costing an amazing sum of $650,000 during the time ($16.7 million today.)

Built in 1972, the New Henniker Covered Bridge is located on the campus of New England College, in Henniker, New Hampshire. The bridge is the fourth version of several other bridges spanning this location. The first of which was a stone arch bridge, built in the early 1800's. The second was a covered bridge built in the late 1800's, and third a steel truss. All of the previous versions were destroyed by floods.

The Häderlis Bridge is a historic stone arch bridge over the Reuss River in the Schöllenen Gorge near Göschenen, Canton of Uri. The bridge from the 17th century was destroyed by a flood in 1987 and rebuilt true to the original until 1991.

A couple days ago, I was walking across the Stone Arch Bridge in Minneapolis, MN and saw this young man braving the snow on his unicycle. The temperature was -9C and i had my hands and camera in my jacket. I saw him a bit late and fumbled for the shot, but actually, I like the way it turned out. Leica M-A with a Summilux 50mm on HP5 developed in HC-110.
What I hope is the last snow of the winter fell here in the Twin Cities during the last few days.
Kind of a drag. But (he grudgingly admits) very pretty too!
