Elementary teachers learn how they can teach concepts related to sound and waves. The K-5 STEM project is a three year project that includes 67 elementary teachers and is led by scientists, mathematicians and educators from UW Oshkosh.

This little program looks for photos on flickr by a given search word. Afterwards, the colors of the photos are analyzed. The color itself gets detected and how often each color is found. This data is the foundation of every stem. Each segment represents one color of the photo, the diameter shows the quantity. The cell resolution in all segments is based on the brightness of the color.
Another result of my apparently endless obsession with glass and light.... Two things that interested me here are (i) the gradient in the light being transmitted through the stem, and (ii) the banding produced by fairly subtle depth variations in the foot of the glass.
Lighting: single diffused halogen from camera left.
As always, much better if you View On Black
Late Friday night, 40 high school girls arrived at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland, for a STEM-themed sleepover, ready to learn about careers in Science, technology, engineering and math. The educational event offered young women a chance to meet working female scientists and to discover opportunities for women in STEM-related professions.
The teens kicked off the third annual STEM Girls Night In with an astronaut Q&A, talks from female scientists across disciplines and a collection of hands-on activities. The night culminated in a three-hour Mars rover competition and concluded with a late-night showing of “Hidden Figures.”

The cells of the single layered epidermis have thickened outer walls and are overlaid with a well-developed cuticle. Numerous stomata are regularly spaced over the epidermal surface.
A narrow outer cortex of several layers of densely packed photosynthetic parenchyma cells is bound on its inner and outer edges by small radially arranged bundles of thick walled sclerenchyma cells.
The large inner cortex consists of a net like aerenchyma, interspaced with large radially arranged air pockets.
Well developed vascular bundles are found at the intersections the aerenchym strands. Because of this arrangement a central vascular stele is absent.
Within each vascular bundle proto and metaxylem are arranged in a V shape with phloem situated in between and above the metaxylem. A protoxylem lacunae is usually formed. The closed vascular bundles are wrapped in a bundle sheath of thick walled sclerenchyma cells. Vascular cambium is absent preventing the formation of secondary tissues.

MTA New York City Transit President Richard Davey and Senior Vice President of Subways Demetrius Crichlow surprise 7th grade students Alan, Chris, Criss, and Sinthia with a visit to Liberty Avenue Middle School on Thursday, Jan 12, 2023. The students, under the guidance of teacher Jessica Abrams, are state finalists in the Samsung Solve for Tomorrow STEM competition with their design of a push-button method for summoning police or mental health assistance in the subway.

This image is a photomicrograph of an epidermal peel of the surface of a young stem. On the stems the stomata (gas exchange pores) are more or less confined to the grooves. This is an adaptation which helps to reduce water loss through evapotranspiration. There are fine hairs on the ridges, which may reduce airflow over the stem surface.
In this image the largest stomata are approximately 20 µm wide and 28 µm long.

Twenty-five students from the Milton Hershey School spent the day at Penn State Health, who teamed up with the American Heart Association and Centric Bank to host the first regional STEM Goes Red event, the aim of which was to empower young women to improve heart and brain health through pursuing careers in science, technology, engineering and math.

No date yet but we are really excited about this one. 3T as a company are leaders in modern bike integration. Taking their inspiration from F1 racing where all components are made to work together and seamlessly integrate.
For updates on price and availability see here
The 3T Integra stem has an optional (included with stem) face plate that can accommodate a Garmin GPS cycling computer and keep everything looking neat and slick. And there’s no weight penalty for looking good. The full carbon stem and weighs in at just 135g and works just as well if you’re not using the computer module. Surprisingly, 3T says you can even use it on cyclocross and mountain bikes.

IU Kokomo hosted a family STEM event on April 26, 2019 to encourage young people to explore the sciences.
Teachers prepare to demonstrate the projects they built for the Rocketry Engineering Design Challenge during the 2017 GE Foundation High School STEM Integration Conference at the Center for Space Education at NASA's Kennedy Space Center. High school teachers from across the country took part in the week-long conference, which is designed to explore effective ways for teachers, schools and districts from across the country to integrate STEM throughout the curriculum. The conference is a partnership between GE Foundation and the National Science Teachers Association. Photo credit: NASA/Chris Chamberland
