Reed Warbler - Acrocephalus scirpaceus
The Reed Warbler is a medium-sized warbler of reedbeds. A summer visitor to the UK, it weaves its nest as a sling between two or three reed stems, and lays three to five eggs in it. Forming monogamous pairs, both parents raise the chicks.
Reed Warblers are common victims of brood-parasitism by Cuckoos.
It is migratory, wintering in sub-Saharan Africa.

Lined up in a row, six wine glasses given to me a few months ago as a Birthday present.
Hand held and the gentle colour softness that this lens produces when fully open. Not much depth of field either!
All sorts of gentle post-processing, a bit here and a bit there!

yes I am a big fan of white lilies...
Lilium longiflorum.
This plant is native to Japan and the Ryūkyū Islands. It is a stem rooting lily, growing up to 1 m high and bears a number of trumpet shaped, white, very fragrant, and outward facing flowers.
We have a family of friends that we visit every year, they breed horses, wonderful people.
They have now made it a tradition that each year, on the day of our return back home, the end of our visit/holidays, they present me with a bunch of freshly-cut Lilies (one of the sons helps on a farm where they grow them for the bulbs!).
It is a bouquet that I can barely hold my arms around, I had to buy a BIG vase and even now, they are split into two displays. Our house is filled whit the fragrance.
What wonderful friends we have all over!

I have been thinking lately that I need to take some wider angle photos and it is difficult when I enjoy the world close up and macro. My next goal should be wide lens work of people and places.
It is in late autumn when the leaves are on the ground that you notice the character of the leaf. The veins and stem have always been there but are not as noticeable in the summer when the leaf is green and still connected to the tree.

Hello, long time..I wanted to share this with you and to be
on my flickr record,the original concept was to have two
side by side,with a central drop hanging down,,that was the
plan..but i think i got something better though what do you
think?you see this could never be repeated and hears
why.the drop is glycerin,sticky and heavy,it broke the stem
and hung down before collapse, and a water drop would have
simply rolled off at the moment of stem break.this happened
by accident and i love it.
Flowering in Palm tree Gardens in Grenada
Ginger originated in Maritime Southeast Asia and was likely domesticated first by the Austronesian peoples. It was transported with them throughout the Indo-Pacific during the Austronesian expansion (c. 3,000 BCE), reaching as far as Hawaii. Ginger is one of the first spices to have been exported from Asia, arriving in Europe with the spice trade, and was used by ancient Greeks and Romans.
The gardens are two acres of botanical gardens, over 300 plant species, including 40 palm varieties, anthuriums, bromeliads, and orchids. A great excursion out.

for Macro Mondays. Compared with the large bowl, the long stems on my posh wine glasses seem very slender and fragile, and I always take great care when handling them.
The five other glasses are reflected in this one stem.

I was "admonished" (not seriously) by an acquaintance yesterday for not using my Hasselblad enough, so today I accepted the challenge to make some images with it. This frame made use of the 0.5 Proxar closeup filter.

This minuscule Ceutorhynch (Seed) Weevil was no more than 3mm long and proved to be one of the most difficult insects that I've tried photographing. Looking at it in this shot you get no idea how small they are!
I was out early one morning with only the big lens, looking for wildlife. No luck there, but I was very glad I noticed this frost on these red stems. I don't know what the plant is. I've been bringing my macro lens every day since, but frost this nice doesn't happen very often. Siskiyou County, California
Ginger is a popular flavour at Christmas, usually pieces coated in dark chocolate but my take on it this year is stem ginger cupcakes. A quick and easy bake, and also an easy frosting flavoured with syrup from the ginger jar and topped with a festive edible 'bauble'.
