In celebration of Women's History month and Pi Day, SUNY Old Westbury hosted Experiences of Women in STEM with panelists: Dr. Shahedipour-Sandvik, SUNY Senior Vice Chancellor, Professor Madondo, Senior Education Specialist, South Africa and two Old Westbury undergraduate students Fatima Bhali and Dominique Crecco.
In celebration of Women's History month and Pi Day, SUNY Old Westbury hosted Experiences of Women in STEM with panelists: Dr. Shahedipour-Sandvik, SUNY Senior Vice Chancellor, Professor Madondo, Senior Education Specialist, South Africa and two Old Westbury undergraduate students Fatima Bhali and Dominique Crecco.
These students from Kashmere, North Early College, and Wheatley High Schools worked in cooperative groups to solve a real world problem. Each group of 3 to 4 students posed as an engineering firm that would submit a robotics solution to a geophysics problem. Teams used the LEGO Mindstorm NXT robot to design a vehicle that could climb to the top of a Mountain to retrieve rocks that stored energy. Their vehicle should be able to climb the mountain and continue its motion as the slope of the mountain increased. The team whose robot climbed the highest would win the bid with my company.

Walking through ChinaTown is something I always in enjoy while in San Franscico. Looking for patterns, interesting hanging items, and other fasinating scenes.
Introduced warm-season annual herb with stout erect green rough-surfaced stems to 1 m tall; plants tend to be single stemmed when growing in dense patches. Isolated plants have branched and spreading stems. Leaves are alternately-arranged, green, rough, broad ovate to triangular and usually 3-lobed. Burrs are woody, 25-30 mm long and more or less egg-shaped; terminal spines are 5-7 mm long and curve inward at the tips. A native of the Americas, it competes with summer crops and pastures. Left untreated, infestations result in reduced yields and downgrading of grain due to contamination. It causes problems in livestock production by creating barriers to movement. The burrs can cling to livestock, making handling difficult and causing physical injury to people and livestock.

Students worked through several worksheets to code and decode messages using various ciphers like the Caesar cipher and Pigpen cipher, learning about important math concepts like modular arithmetic along the way. CDT Tritschler, who is branching cyber, guided the students through the importance of cyber-hygiene and introduced the history of #cryptography, prior to students breaking out into small groups to create their own version of a scytale, ancient cipher device.” APR 21
