Dried stem of Echium pininana. This plant is native/endemic to a small area on one of the Canary Islands. If it is spreading aggressively here and crowding out native species, it could be deemed an invasive species. Personally I think its geographic spread here is still limited enough that it should be taken out before it spreads further. This is especially true of the scattered specimens that have appeared over the ridge from the concentrated population along the Devil's Slide Trail.
