Stem, N.C. -- Inspector General (IG) officers from the Republic of Moldova's National Army are visiting facilities in North Carolina April 10, 2019.

The Moldovan military and North Carolina National Guard have shared a strong joint-training relationship since 1999, as part of the State Partnership Program (SPP). The State Partnership Program links U.S. states with partner countries for the purpose of supporting U.S. security cooperation objectives. The program's goals reflect an evolving international affairs mission for the National Guard using the unique civilian-military nature of the Guard to interact with both active and reserve forces of foreign countries. These students from Kashmere, North Early College, and Wheatley High Schools worked in cooperative groups to solve a real world problem. Each group of 3 to 4 students posed as an engineering firm that would submit a robotics solution to a geophysics problem. Teams used the LEGO Mindstorm NXT robot to design a vehicle that could climb to the top of a Mountain to retrieve rocks that stored energy. Their vehicle should be able to climb the mountain and continue its motion as the slope of the mountain increased. The team whose robot climbed the highest would win the bid with my company.
