A cellular phone is stored, before entering the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Agricultural Statistics Service (NASS) lockup facility for a briefing about cotton ginnings, cranberries, and crop production, in Washington, D.C., on Thursday, August 10, 2017. Before entering the Lockup facility, visitors are given a briefing on NASS history and processes, then given a chance to ask questions. Inside the facility, visitors and staff are required to remove and secure electronic communication devices before entering. Statisticians who are secured in the facility over night generate the reports. The finished reports are released to press journalists two hours early, so they can write their stories within a data secure room.
