The APEC Climate (APCC) hosted a 5-day training program about producing regional climate data through the application of statistical downscaling techniques from August 22 to 26 in the APCC Headquarters, located in Busan, South Korea. The program benefited 19 people from various APEC economies, who are working in meteorological, agricultural or water resources offices.

Emerging economies often face difficulties producing detailed regional climate data due to insufficient infrastructures and human resources.

My two cats, who never snuggle, curled up together on my legs today. Of course, it may have been a team effort to keep the human heater from leaving the bed cold...

The 2015 report of the Hop Growers of America reveals that the USA supplied 42% of the globe’s 2015 hop crop.

"After the last of the data has come in on the total 2015 crop for 2016 brewing, what was suspected from late summer is now apparent in the final numbers: 2015 was a tough year world-wide, resulting in a deficit in alpha production that must be covered from inventories accumulated in previous years.

Reflected in the numbers, high summer heats and water restrictions meant mixed results for crops, particular hitting earlier harvest varieties (aromas). The story was similar, yet more severe for European countries, where the majority of the crop’s water needs are supplied by rain. Drought in Germany and other continental European countries dramatically reduced yields.

While Germany – which, along with the United States is one of the two largest hop suppliers in the world – had 34% of the world’s hop acreage (just 4% lower than the US at 38%), they contributed just 33% of the 2015 crop. The US, despite its own challenges, provided 42% of the global hop supply this year.

'The unusually high temperatures experienced this past summer were unprecedented, and we do not anticipate a repeat of an early and persistent heat wave,' said Ann George, Executive Director of Hop Growers of America (HGA). 'While we are waiting to see the final snowpack situation in the spring, we know we are already far better off than last year, so we anticipate higher yields along with more acres going in to meet contract demands.' Roughly around 325,000 homes across the US are broken into every year, usually in plain view. Altogether there are about 2.5 million burglaries reported and 66% of those are in homes. Most break-ins happen during the day when people are most likely to be out and about.

There are certain things you can do to protect your home in order not to become a statistic. We’ve rounded up 4 tips to protect your home, your family, and belongings better.

Keep valuables out of sight

It’s not difficult for anyone to just walk up and take a peek through one of your windows and see what you have lying around if you don’t have thick curtains or forgot to close them on your way out. While some items are not really meant to be moved around, like a TV screen, others are easier to move and keep out of view. Laptops, mobiles, all other small devices, purses, and wallets can all be put away when you’re out of the house. Even if your purse or wallet is actually empty and the mobile is old, a burglar wouldn’t know that, and it would just be too tempting in their eyes.

Wire up

It doesn’t matter if you live in a building, a house, or own a shop or any other business, you can use a security system to put your mind at ease. If moving into a new home or looking to sell your old one that’s a good time for when to get a wired security system. Having a wired system can increase the cost of your home when selling, and may also have custom made options that wireless security systems do not always offer.

Don’t provide hiding places

Your landscape, tall trees, and bushes are lovely to sit near and under. They provide nice shade on hot days but they also provide more opportunity for thieves and the likes to hide in. Keep shrubs and trees trimmed, at least trimmed enough that they do not block windows. Besides that, don’t leave items outside. Many people will leave a ladder outside after doing some roof repair, for example. This is inviting a would-be thief to the upper floors of a house where windows might be often unlocked.

Change locks when necessary

Anytime you or someone else loses a key to the house, change the lock. You can never be sure if the key was actually lost or if someone got their hands on it, giving them more than easy access to your home. If you rent out a home, it’s also recommended to change locks after a tenant leaves.

You can never be too safe

There really is no such thing as being too safe when it comes to protecting your home. Be an alert homeowner and find out more ways to protect your property. Always keep all doors, windows and the garage locked. You can ask someone you trust to keep a watchful eye if you have to leave home for an extended period. As we say, better to be safe than sorry.

Roughly around 325,000 homes across the US are broken into every year, usually in plain view.

The 2015 APCC Training Program on the Generation of Regional Climate Data Derived from Statistical Downscaling Techniques was held from 7-12 December, 2015 at the APCC headquarters in Busan, South Korea.

The 29 participants, climate professionals from meteorological administrations, hailed from 15 developing countries in the Asia-Pacific area, Central and South America, and Africa.

Statistically, as of 2019, most of the world's population live in poverty: in PPP dollars, 85% of people live on less than $30 per day, two-thirds live on less than $10 per day {This my category}, and 10% live on less than $1.90 per day. According to the World Bank Group in 2020, more than 40% of the poor live in conflict-affected countries. Even when countries experience economic development, the poorest citizens of middle-income countries frequently do not gain an adequate share of their countries' increased wealth to leave poverty. Governments and non-governmental organizations have experimented with a number of different policies and programs for poverty alleviation, such as electrification in rural areas or housing first policies in urban areas.

Roughly around 325,000 homes across the US are broken into every year, usually in plain view.
