4th graders generate a static charge in pvc pipe and race aluminum cans to see which team produced the strongest attraction.
After frying a couple of (luckily inexpensive) devices, I realized I needed an anti-static wristband. Not wanting to spend the $$ for a "real" one, I figured I’d make my own. When I found this relic of my regrettably-emo high school days, I knew it was perfect!
Work No. 202: Half the Air in a Given Space exemplifies Turner-prize winning artist Martin Creed’s career-long investigation into how we physically experience everyday life. Creed produces his works, which now number over 1000 projects, by himself, with performers, or, in this case, through the active participation of visitors. In this installation the artist gives form to the air that surrounds us by precisely measuring and capturing half of it inside nearly twenty thousand black balloons. Creating an environment that is both playful and claustrophobic, he drastically alters our perception of space. Here, as in the majority of his production, Creed uses the art museum, a site of meaningful contemplation, to turn our experience of the ordinary into a work of art.
The laundry hamper tipped over and Ripley was captivated... what was this new place?!! He walked around in circles and pawed at the carpet through the holes, but in the end, mostly found it to be... staticy.
{3/52: Makes me want to freeze time}
My daughter was laying on the trampoline spinning and I could hear the static building up. Grabbed the camera and laughing hysterically ensued. Wish I could freeze time so all these tiny things in life could make us laugh so hard!"
Active Assingment for the week of April 6th-13th: Energy
WIT: I wanted to get a more artistic shot of static but found it's more difficult than I thought. It's a REALLY noisy picture because my ISO was as high as it could go, shot in bulb mode at my widest aperture The static is between my finger and a pie plate and it's less than a quarter of a inch long. I thought it was kind of interesting to take a look at.....in the science text book sort of way.

Valsa de uma cidade - Antonio Maria
Vento do mar e o meu rosto no sol a queimar, queimar
Calçada cheia de gente a passar e a me ver passar
Rio de Janeiro, gosto de vocĂŞ
Gosto de quem gosta
Deste céu, deste mar, desta gente feliz
These shots were recently taken on set for A Static Lullaby's upcoming music video, due to air on MTV2. They were incredibly hard to take at such high shutter speeds to capture all the movement due to the fact I couldn't use a flash unless I wanted to interrupt the video! From what I saw on set, the video looks very promising.
