For some reason I assumed this part moved, and that threw my mind for a loop with the anchorpoints and guide wired mounted to it. Turns out it's static and the wires are flexible. Makes a LOT more sense.

Built and raced in 1976, but this car owes its claim to fame to the 1977 Indianapolis 55 by being the mount of the first woman to start an Indy 500, Janet Guthrie.
In 1976 Guthrie had become the first woman to race with the Good Ol Boys in the NASCAR Winston Cup. She had been down to race a Coyotte Foyt in the 1976 Indianapolis but had not made a qualifying attempt.
For 1977 she drove this Lightning Offenhauser she posted the fastest time in the second weekend of qualifying, starting the race 26th of the 33 racers, ranked 17th but was forced to retire on the 27th lap with timing gear problems classified 29th.
In 1978 she finished 9th in a Wildcat DGS and 34th in 1979 in a Lola Cosworth. Returning to Lightning for 1980 but without sucess. Her race helmet is in the Smithsonian Museum.
