Note-Grids are a tool for collecting and connecting objects of thought (in this case, words).

They treat words and other manifestations of thought as objects that can be freely manipulated to create new meaning.

They break meaning up into individual words to facilitate a more fluid, intuitive, and improvisational approach to knowledge production.

Pre finish - Once stain has dried for a couple of days apply a sanding sealer. Zinsser Seal Coat Universal sanding sealer. This creates a good base for the laquer finish and brings out the deep rich color nicely. Spray version avaliable but I used the liquid with a wide paint applicator. One coat, do not over brush, watch for drips. Let dry over night, sand lightly with 320 black sand paper. Wipe with tack cloth, then with cloth dampened with denatured alcohol.

This is my vision statement for the Project 52 Pros group.

Artist Statement:

I used to think still life was boring, boring to watch and boring to paint; a purely technical exercise. However, as I studied the Baroque style I began to appreciate the beauty and skill in capturing the way light drapes its self over objects dazzling, flitting, playing with our eyes or softly cloaking, curving, and melting into shadow. The skill involved in rendering the simplest object accurately is much more enviable than I thought and so much more beautiful than I had realized. I learned through observation that the combination of successfully executed colour, light, composition, and technical accuracy can make a still life tell a story and convey a mood, the same way skies or oceans do in landscapes. My canvas is a demonstration of my experimentation with a new medium and an attempt to create a sense of realism and emotion, as I have seen done in the great works I now admire. In my painting, a light is illuminating a skull as a candle is being blown out. This follows the vanitas genre of still life painting, symbolizing the passage of time and portraying life as fleeting, death ready to sweep in. This reminds us that we only have one chance to live and that we need to prioritize not with the superficial but with that which makes life fulfilling.

This statement is on the back of each of the cards. Brenda de Northcote. Thee artist borrows heavily from well-known portraits from European art history, predominantly Gothic and the Italian Renaissance. She personalises the borrowed portraits by superimposing the head of her bull terrier Minnie the Moocha, and the images have emerged from the unlikely marriage of her twin loves of painting and her canine muse.

The cards are available in Australia, but I am not sure about elsewhere.

Tribal looking cast metal statement necklace. Focal point is a cast metal connector with faux snakeskin accents and olive green acrylic gem in the center. Tiny gunmetal colored copper chains drift from behind the focal point. Transparent green faceted glass beads and gray crystal pearls connect the focal to a large double link chain. An silver plated copper lobster claw clasp finishes the piece. Surprisingly lightweight. Very tribal looking.
