The IAEA Event: Net Zero Needs Nuclear Power will highlight the crucial role of nuclear power as part of the energy mix. The Director General of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mr Rafael Mariano Grossi will announce the ‘IAEA Statement on Nuclear Power’ supported by 40 countries, both those already operating nuclear power plants and newcomers. Together these countries acknowledge that all available low-carbon technologies, including nuclear power, should be recognized, and actively supported. The Statement underlines the benefits of nuclear power, including that nuclear power plants produce no harmful greenhouse gas emissions; that nuclear energy contributes to energy security and the stability of power grids; and that it mitigates air pollution at a local level.

Open Statement To My Autumn 2005 Guests

by Blondecowboy1001

3DEC05

Dear Friends and Visitors,

“ There are times when

something is possible

there are times

when nothing is possible

there are times when

everything is possible. ”

- Naqshbandi Recital

Thanks to everyone for visiting my picture/ erstwhile poetry sitelet this autumn. I was surprised by the thousand - plus hits I had in perhaps 2 months of placing my material on this site.

I continue my photography and poetry off this site because the purpose has been served. When the school is over it closes when the need has been fulfilled. Indeed the web site hit counter was increasing geometrically, but that in itself means nothing since the purpose I set out for myself was sufficiently reached.

I learned that I can express myself somewhat deeply herein. There seems to be no correlation or little between the visual experience of presentation of words - in this case poetry in other cases verbalizations - and pictures. In some cases the pictures I attempted to correlate strongly with pictures, and in other cases only tangentially. Such effort reinforces the perhaps atavistic belief and finding that art is the only means at human’s disposal to express the ineffable, to stop the moment.

Thank you for visiting.

Yours in the transfinities,

Todd

Launching of CEDAW Recommendations on Iraq's Report

Baghdad, 17 December 2014 - Under the auspices of the Minister of Human Rights, the Ministry of Human Rights in cooperation with the UNWomen launched today in Baghdad the CEDAW Recommendations on Iraq's Report at the Hall of Martyr Saad Katea at the National Center for Human Rights. The launch ceremony took place in the presence of the Representatives of the Government of Iraq and of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women (UNWOMEN).

In the Report the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) adopted concluding observations on the combined fourth to sixth periodic reports of Iraq. The Committee stresses the crucial role of the legislative power in ensuring the full implementation of the Convention (see CEDAW statement on ‘The relationship of the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women with Parliamentarians’, 41st session, 2008). It invites the Council of Representatives of Iraq and the Kurdistan Region Parliament, in line with their respective mandates to take the necessary steps regarding the implementation of the present concluding observations between now and the next reporting period under the Convention.

The Committee is particularly concerned that the situation, along with pervasive corruption, has contributed to an increase of violence against women by State and non-State actors, as well as to the reinforcement of traditional and patriarchal attitudes which limit women’s and girls’ enjoyment of their rights.

In line with its general recommendation No. 30 (2013) on women in conflict prevention, conflict and post-conflict situations, the Committee calls upon Iraq to:

(a)Adopt a holistic security sector reform framework which incorporates a gender-sensitive and gender-responsive perspective and aims at capacity-building for the security forces in full respect of human rights and respect for the rule of law; and ensure that the security sector reform is subject to inclusive oversight and accountability mechanisms with sanctions;

(b)Ensure that the rule of law is enforced and engage in a reform of the judiciary so as to ensure its independence, impartiality and integrity, and that justice is delivered without delay and efficiently and with a gender-sensitive approach;

(c)As a priority, establish measures to effectively combat corruption and impunity and comply with its due diligence obligation to prevent, investigate, prosecute and punish violence perpetrated against women and girls by State and non-State actors; and

(d)Provide systematic training on human rights, in particular on women’s rights, to all law enforcement officials, the military and other armed forces involved in security operations and establish and enforce a strict code of conduct so as to effectively guarantee respect for human rights.

The only National Historic Site dedicated to a first lady, Val-Kill welcomes visitors in the style of Mrs. Roosevelt. The cottage became the nucleus of Franklin and Eleanor's overlapping network of friends and political associates. After FDR's death in 1945, Val-Kill became Mrs. Roosevelt's permanent home. In Val-Kill's tranquil setting, Mrs. Roosevelt continued the tradition of convening people who shared her vision. "The greatest thing I have learned is how good it is to come home again." [Eleanor Roosevelt] This simple statement expresses her love for the modest house she called Val-Kill.

BUILDING SKATEBOARD RAMPS, PIECING TOGETHER BMX BIKES, MAKING THE MOST OUT OF A ROOM SHARED WITH YOUR OLDER BROTHER, COUCHES IN CLOSETS,DRAWING ON THE BACK OF YOUR MOTHER’S HOMEWORK & MAKING GIFTS WHEN YOU CAN’T BUY THEM...DESIGN AND REDISIGN. THIS IS WHO I AM. I COULD NOT ESCAPE CONSTANT THOUGHTS OF MAKING MY OWN, INSERT OBJECT HERE, SO I HAVE EMBRACED IT. I BELIEVE I WAS DESIGNED TO DESIGN, TO COMMUNICATE MY CULTURE, MY LIFE, THROUGH ARTISTIC & FUNCTIONAL OBJECTS & INTERIOR SPACES. I BELIEVE YOU CAN LEARN TO DO ANYTHING, BUT IT IS THE FORCE BEHIND YOUR URGE TO LEARN SOMETHING THAT MATTERS, IT IS INNATE. I STRIVE TO SURROUND MYSELF WITH CREATIVES THAT UNDERSTAND MY DRIVE, MY HISTORY & MY HEART. FINDING MINDS THAT WORK TOGETHER TO ENCOURAGE & INSPIRE EACH OTHER TO PUSH THEIR PERSONAL BOUNDARIES, SUBSCRIBING TO STYLE, LETTING TRENDS & FADS COME & GO AS THEY PLEASE. THROUGH MY DESIGN I HOPE TO SHOW THE PUBLIC THAT SUSTAINABILITY STARTS WITH DESIGN & ENDS WITH THE CONSUMER’S KNOWLEDGE OF WHICH PRODUCTS AND LIVING CHOICES WILL BEST SUIT THE HEALTH OF THIS PLANET AS WELL AS THEIR OWN WELL BEING. IN MY DESIGN I WILL AVOID THE MATERIALISTIC & WASTEFUL NATURE OF THE INDUSTRY SEARCHING FOR THE SOUL OF DESIGN, THE NECESSITY OF QUALITY.

Operation AVRO is a forcewide initiative that delivers a surge of extra resources and specialist officers to a different part of Greater Manchester each month.

This month saw the operation return to the region's transport network.

The operation targets crimes that members of the public in that district have told us give them the most concern.

Members of the press and key partners, including local representatives, are invited to attend Operation AVRO deployments to see results first-hand and conduct important multi-agency work, such as welfare visits.

More details on AVRO can be found by visiting gmp.police.uk and following us on social media.

You should call 101, the national non-emergency number, to report crime and other concerns that do not require an emergency response.

Always call 999 in an emergency, such as when a crime is in progress, violence is being used or threatened or where there is danger to life.

You can also call anonymously with information about crime to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Crimestoppers is an independent charity who will not want your name, just your information. Your call will not be traced or recorded and you do not have to go to court or give a statement.

You can access many of our services online at www.gmp.police.uk

One of my most awesome pieces ever: my Diversity Necklace!

While creating this AMAZING piece of wearable true art, I closed my eyes and let my inner intuition artistic spirit guide me. The result was this fully functioning expression of artistry, wearable AND also stands up by itself, thus serving as a thought-provoking necklace/art piece, and a movable mixed media sculpture.

@ the new bus station, Aberdeen.

Was out for a walk today and saw the wall of statements posters were up already. Officially opens on Tuesday. You'd defiantly need to go and have a look at them in person.

These necklace are the perfect gift or the perfect treat. You choose!

Note-Grids are a tool for collecting and connecting objects of thought (in this case, words).

They treat words and other manifestations of thought as objects that can be freely manipulated to create new meaning.

They break meaning up into individual words to facilitate a more fluid, intuitive, and improvisational approach to knowledge production.
