We were able to get 2 nights of camping, by reservation, at Harris Beach State Park. They close the parking lot at 9:00 pm (right at sunset in June), but by camping in the park and walking down the hill to the beach we could stay as late as we wanted.

The structure is a lively stacking of various examples of these traditional houses, ranging from a notary’s residence to a worker’s cottage. ‘The Blue House’ at the top corner has been inspired by the work Claude Monet painted at Zaandam in 1871.

Okay, this is just a processing process, but the air in our valley has been putrid now for days on end as a result of the large number of forest fires burning around the state. Leaves a bitter taste in the mouth, sore throat and headache as well as itchy eyes. I thought I was tough and those things only bothered sissies. No end in sight. Drought, deluges of rain, violent storms, dieoffs, algae blooms, extinction of species...... is this the new normal?
