Pi Art Works Gallery…>Sati mixes his paint with a viscous, transparent acrylic gel. A generous amount of this mixture is then swept across the canvas and over its edges by either a brush or a squeegee. Once dry, the pigmented gel's waxy consistency transforms into a hard, shiny, plastic-like surface. Due his material's semi-transparent nature, the artist does not fully control the outcome and often small bands of underlying colour peer through, contrasting with the colour of the uppermost layer, creating a sense of movement. Therefore, while the creation of each work is similar, nuances in composition and shade make each outcome distinctively different from the last.

Divorced from the restrictions of figurative depiction, Sati's practice focuses on the application and manipulation of his medium. For him, it is just as much about testing his signature material's inherent creative potential, and exploring how the fluctuating transparency effects how the colours juxtapose with each other, as it is about the artwork's final form.

From the museum label:

The six paintings in this room were conceived by Gerhard Richter as a coherent group, named after the American experimental composer John Cage.

Since the early 1980s, Richter has frequently made abstract works by applying layers of paint, and then wiping a squeegee across the surface. As the upper layers of paint are dragged across the canvas, earlier moments from the painting's creation are allowed to resurface.

The Cage paintings are the outcome of several layers of painting and erasure. Their surfaces are animated by lines where the squeegee has paused, by brushstrokes, other scrapings, and areas where the skin of oil paint has dried and rippled. The paint seems delicate and fluid in some areas, coarser and more solid in others.

Richter was listening to the music of John Cage while he worked on these paintings and titled them after the composer. There are no direct links between any particular work in this series and any piece of music by Cage. However, Richter has long been interested in Cage's ideas about ambient sound and silence, as well as his controlled use of chance procedures in musical composition.

Before they are cut up of course.

I wish you guys could see the adoring look on ol' Squeegee's face. He's such a cuddlebutt in the morning!

Taking inspiration from the home project I designed stencil cut outs that we screen printed onto old envelopes.

I forgot to clean the squeegee.

Getting a shower squeegee for your shower can turn into a good habit of cleaning after the shower.

4A. This project was about using pinhole camera photography. Each photo was supposed to use either unique lighting, or unique subjects. I needed to produce two quality negative prints, and two quality positive prints for this assignment.

B.I did this project by going outside, and playing around with shadows and lighting when exposing my pinhole to the light for approximately 15 seconds. I then would develop my photo paper in the dark room. Once through each of the chemicals, I squeegeed them so that they would dry quickly.

C. I did my pinhole photos outside because it gave me the best lighting in a quicker amount of time. Both of my quality negatives and positives included trees because they cast off shadows, which leads to a cool effect of the lighting. I enjoy simplistic photos so I figured that trees were the simplest thing I could photograph and a decent amount of time with my pinhole camera.

5A. The most challenging part about this pinhole camera project was determining the appropriate exposure time for the different lighting I encountered.

B. I am proud of the different values that I was able to capture in my pinhole photos, the values gave a lot of dimension to my photographs.

C. My work shows that I have improved since Photo 1 because I feel I developed a better range of value, and interesting angles.

D. My work relates to my inspirations because I enjoy photographing nature and buildings, which is what I photographed with my pinhole camera.

E. My work illustrates my strengths by showing how much I take the time to evaluate my photographs, and it shows my weaknesses because I still could have done better with finding more interesting subjects. It shows I try to do my best, but can always use improvement.

This is the bathroom with no counter, no drawers. We have to use the squeegee to dry the floor after a shower because there is no way for the standing water to get in to the drain and it is an open room with toilet, shower, sink.
