The 1 and only Sir Vival. The brainchild of a Worcester Mass inventor who was determined to build the world's safest car. In the early fifties he modified a '47 Hudson and built a car that was in 2 sections, the engine in front connected to the passenger compartment in back via an articulated joint. For maximum visibility the driver sat in the raised turret area surrounded by 360 degree glass cylinder that rotated thru vertical squeegees so the driver wouldn't have to view the road obscured by wiper blades. The car was featured in every auto and mechanical mag of the day. He displayed it at several world's fairs including the NY fair of 64.

I'm lucky I have any images at all after the the film snapped at the end of the roll which then slackened the film meaning the teeth stopped pulling the film along.

Only thing to do now is get some new developer and invest in a good squeegee.

With the advent of today's resins, ornaments took a leap as far as the detail went. Resin ornaments can look almost like carved wood, not like the cheap plastics of past decades, or the beautiful, but dangerously brittle glass of the past. Though breakable, it doesn't shatter into shards, which is great if you're a parent with small kids, or a pet parent like me!

I broke an ornament this year. It was an old glass one that I dropped, shattering into tiny pieces. I wasn't even hanging it up, since with my cats, I haven't used the glass bulbs for many years. I have a few lovely old ones left, which I might hang one day, when I am devoid of kitties- if that ever happens!

This year, Squeegee has taken to eating tinsel. I usually don't use it anymore, but I decided to try because it looks so pretty. So far, Squeeks has choked up two tinsel balls! I can't for the life of me figure out what the allure is, but he won't leave the tinsel alone, and I've found him with a strand hanging out of his mouth, and a guilty look on his face! What a character. So, when I'm home, I sit by the tree with a spray bottle full of water with which to squirt him if he goes near it! It isn't working. Sigh....

I finally made it out to downtown Ishinomaki with a friend on April 3rd, 2011. Although we made it out quite late, we were able to help a little by distributing water and food to a few people. Although downtown Ishinomaki was hit very hard by the tsunami, it was very uplifting to see the progress that had already been made. Military supply camps, squads of police, and groups of volunteers were all working tirelessly in restoration. The downtown area seemed to be getting far more attention than any of the other areas I've visited, but rightfully so, since it has a far higher population density.

Despite the incredible progress that had been made, there is clearly still a lot to do. The chorus of destroyed boats, cars, and houses again echoed throughout the town. Oil-logged muck permeated through the hills of debris and toxic smells wafted through the air, but people managed to keep their spirits up regardless.

The most somber part of the day for me, was after we left the downtown area and made our way up to Hiyoriyama park. I would sometimes come up to Hiyoriyama to view the cherry blossoms, watch the sunrise, or relax after archery. Every time I went up to the park, I was stunned by the natural beauty and panoramic view of this sprawling city creeping to edge of the ocean. This time, however, I felt as though I was punched in the gut with the starkest realization of utter destruction that I had experienced until this point. The once beautiful view of a thriving city reaching out into the ocean, was replaced with the surreal image of toppled homes and bare foundations. A handful of cars weaving through nearly impassable roads created the only movement in what could easily be confused with a garbage dump or wasteland.

I know that eventually the area will be restored, but it will take a lot of work and time to heal the wounds. If you would like to donate to Red Cross Japan, please visit their website here:

Coloured Mindplein / Colored Mind square

Toen gingen we tien keer zo snel.'

Turning a grey-grey, forgotten sports field square into an artistically colorful place where the neighborhood sports and develops: a dream of artist duo Bruce and Linda. Now work in progress, and almost done.

According to local residents Linda van der Vleuten and Bruce Tsai-Meu-Chong, the basketball and football fields on the Colored Mindplein (corner Heemraadssingel-Essenburgsingel) looked desolate and neglected. They thought, wouldn't it be nice if this place could bustle? The designer duo submitted a plan to the CityLab010 municipal program that encourages residents to dream of a better city. And they received a subsidy - also from other funds - to realize their plan.

Huge colorful floor painting

Bruce Tsai-Meu-Chong: 'Our dream idea involves an enormous colorful floor painting, so that the squares look much more attractive. But that doesn't mean you have a bustling neighborhood spot. Together with 3X3 Unites, Panna Knockout and Concrete Lions, we train leaders from the neighborhood to take other young people in tow, to set up a network together. A community. For a real neighborhood feeling with a future. It's all about getting people involved. For example, we had students from the Marnix Gymnasium help design the floor painting.'

The idea is called Rebound, a term known from both basketball and football. 'But now we use it symbolically,' says Linda van der Vleuten, 'in the sense of rebounding or revitalizing. As an impulse for the neighbourhood.'

Splash, smear and roll

For the painting of 2500 square meters, the artists use a coarse, non-slip sports field paint, with sand in it. 'One field with three men costs an average of a week's work,' says Tsai-Meu-Chong. “It was very slow in the beginning. Until the paint supplier gave us tips on how to do it. Don't roll like you do with a wall at home. But first a splash of paint on the ground, spread it out with a squeegee and only then roll. Then we went ten times faster.'

The makeover should be ready this month (August 2021), and there will be a festive opening. 'We hope', says Van der Vleuten, 'that Rebound will also mean the start of a further improvement in the decoration for the sports field. For example, new baskets and new, but also more benches and garbage cans. We also invite the whole of Rotterdam to come and see how we are doing things here. Everyone is welcome to come and play sports and neighborhoods.'

This is my beautiful, oldest cat, Squeegee. Squeeks was diagnosed with kidney failure about 9 years ago. At that time, evey organ in his body was failing, and I nearly lost him. Not having children, my pets are like my kids, so I spend all that I had and even went into debt to pay his huge medical bills. After biopsies and ultrasounds and xrays, no one still had any idea what was really wrong with Squeeks, or why he was sick! Eventually, my vet just told me to feed him what he liked, even though it wasn't great for him, and put him on expensive pain meds to keep him going.

All these years later, Squeegee is doing well. He's normal as long as he gets his pills, and there's no trace of kidney or heart problems like he had in his youth! At about 11 years old, maybe 12, Squeeks is doing well and is as handsome as ever. Mom's always broke, but it's worth it!

Kids having fun. Squirrell-god, kid-with-afro, indian-girl..Music started at 5:30 and lasted until 9:30. I got there too late to see SUBURBS VS CITIES and PLAYGROUND AUTHORITY. Sorry. I had dinner at Mountain Mike's Pizza during SOL and Captain Squeegee. I tried to skank at full speed and had muscle cramps after I got home. Being old is only better than the alternative.

"Rich fellas come up an' they die, an' their kids ain't no good an' they die out. But we keep a'comin'. We're the people that live. They can't wipe us out; they can't lick us. We'll go on forever, Pa, 'cause we're the people." -Ma Joad, The Grapes of Wrath (film)

My all time favorite pet, my beautiful Squeegee. He's about 10 now and just starting to show his age. Squeeks has had health problems most of his life and has been on very expensive pain killers since he was 2. I treasure every day with him, though, so he's worth every penny. Look in those eyes and tell me animals don't have souls! He's more "human" than some people I know, and twice as devoted!

We came back from vacation to find that a bird had struck our living room window, with predictable messy results. On the solstice, my husband used a squeegee with a long pole to clean the window, which is on the second floor of our house.

One strip of double sided velcro and two strips of non-slip mat - the sort used in car boots/trunks and on car dashboards.

An alternative to using non-slip strips is to coat half of the underneath with silicon.

The Play between Realism and Vagueness

Already in 1990, the Vienna-based painter Hubert Scheibl was exhibited in New York side by side with American Ross Bleckner. Scheibl's paintings are abstract and impressive because of their sheer seize, atmosphere, and spatial depth. Also, they are informed by latent representationalism. His painting style if often compared to Gerhard Richter. What they have in common, though, ist only the painting tool, the broad squeegee, which they both use: for while Richter unfolds no painterly space, applying many consecutive layers of paint to the canvas, Scheibl builds his pictorial space already with the first layer of paint. He first lays the paint on with a brush and then smoothens it out with a squeegee. He then places broad brushstrokes, some with deliberation, others randomly, on this grounding. If placed in the bottom area of the painting, these brushstrokes create the impression of a horizon, evoking in the viewer mental images of landscapes, oceans, or far-out galaxies.

Ross Bleckner's career started out in the 1980s in New York, where he exhibited together with friends and exponents of "New Painting," with Julian Schnabel, Eric Fischl, and David Salle. His oeuvre is comprised of widely different groups of works: paintings about AIDS, night skies, pictures of birds, flowers, and human cells. Ever since the AIDS crisis of the 1980s, Ross Bleckner has internalized a strong sense of human mortality. He executes his floral paintings with fastidious care like still lifes. The he pulls a squeegee across the still wet canvas, blurring contours and details to the point of making them unrecognizable. This play between realism and blurry vagueness is what Bleckner has in common with both Gerhard Richter and Hubert Scheibl. For Bleckner, the quiet disappearance of the representational speaks of the transient nature of the world. For Hubert Scheibl, on the other hand, blurriness is what affords viewers freedom of association.

Hand silkscreen printed rock poster for the lovely Inara George's shows on Friday September 23, 2011 at Bootleg Theater in LA and Saturday November 5th at The Getty Center in Los Angeles, CA.

Simple, sweet but not always straightforward and deceptively complex. Hand silkscreened poster for 2 shows for the incomparable Inara George.

Mid-century throwback style always seems fresh, just like the lady herself. This is our all hand silkscreen printed poster for Inara George with hand mixed scarlet red and transparent cyan water-based acrylic screenprinting inks. Edition: 50, each of these limited edition posters are signed & numbered (by me, strawberryluna) Size: 16x22 inches (39.4 cm x 55.9 cm.) Paper: archival Cougar, White 100lb cover weight.

I've been working on a little silkscreening lately. (Some folks may remember my Mamiya shirts from a few years ago.)

One project this time was making screens based on this photo of my friend Linda, taken last summer.

Above you're seeing the process of exposing the coated screens. The artwork is laser-printed onto clear film and held flat against the screen with a piece of glass. Everywhere light strikes the red emulsion, it hardens; everywhere the black artwork covers it, the red emulsion stays water-soluble and you can flush it out of the screen with a blast of water. That leaves behind open mesh. To make prints, you force ink through those open mesh areas with a flat squeegee. You can ink onto paper, T-shirts, etc.

For exposing the screens I just used a 300w halogen work-light, which takes about half an hour. Pro silkscreening shops have a UV exposure unit which works much faster.

thanks, Justin, for the pro account:)

The Squeegee Rack that I built using my BOSCH GCM10 Compound Miter Saw.

Wednesday, Nov. 21st - the evening before Thanksgiving. A smoky fire broke out in the Raintree Cafe (Inner Sunset - 8th&Irving) about 4:30pm. SFFD sent 3 engines, 2 trucks, 1 rescue unit, and 1 ambulance, plus administrative vehicles; and SFPD had a car or two and MUNI had a supervisor in a truck (the N-Judah trains were backed up forever in both directions.)

Smoke was coming from the roof at first and they put up a ladder and took equipment up there immediately. Many of the buildings in this neighborhood have common attics - a few years ago a fire in a clothing store in the middle of the block (where La Fonda is now) closed down four businesses for months.

The Raintree was closed early for the holiday, so the firefighters had to break the glass front door to get in, at which point smoke started pouring out the front and spreading up & down the sidewalk. Neighboring businesses started closing their doors & windows at that point. they set up a fan in front of the opening and the smoke quickly dissipated.

I overheard a firefighter telling the owner that someone had left the grill on when they closed up for the day, and a "pot of grease" on the grill was the source of the problem. I don't know if there were flames, or just smoke. They must have used some water, because after the smoke cleared, they brought in the big squeegees.

It was over pretty quickly, as far as I know no one was hurt, and the first N-Judah was able to get through at 5pm.

As we were leaving, I noticed the guys from a neighboring restaurant, Naan & Curry, bringing plywood over to the Raintree (presumably to board up the open door.)

Like many people, we get fed up with squirrels, rooks and jackdaws eating all the food we put out for the little birds, and have tried various unsuccessful means of keeping them away. This year Stu's stroke of genius was to place hanging basket cages around the feeders to allow the birds in but keep the squirrels out. It's worked really well - the little birds are content, the big birds are defeated, but a few determined squirrels still get in. It takes them a long time to work out how, though, so the impact on the bird food has been minimal.

Last week I approached one quietly whilst it was inside the "cage" to scare it off. It spotted me around 4' away, wriggled out and made off at record breaking speed!

I spotted another today, half in and half out of the cage, nibbling on peanuts. Stu decided to do what I'd done to scare it off, assuming it'd reverse out and leg it, the way the last one had. Nope - it opted to go all the way in instead, and then ran around the inside of the cage like a lunatic, in the way a hamster does a wheel!

Then it made its strategic error - it tried to exit, but got halfway out and froze in that position. It seemed unhurt, but appeared stuck. We wanted to help it out, but it clearly wasn't going submit gracefully to well meant aid. Stu gently offered a squeegee to give it some leverage, and it attacked that good style. Then it wouldn't let go of it, so we couldn't even back away, as the weight might have hurt it. Ultimately Stu twisted this so it released its hold, and a couple of moments later it regained its senses, wriggled, and made for the trees at a helluva pace, apparently none the worse for its adventure.

With the benefit of hindsight, if we'd backed off sooner it may have just made off - it probably froze through panic. But we were genuinely concerned it was stuck. Think in future we'll just leave them to it, or make a noise from a distance.

I suspect its penchant for peanuts may now be slightly reduced, though!

A via that reaches only one layer beneath the outer layer on one side of a muti-layer board.

Blister

De-lamination in the form of a localized swelling and separation between any of the Layers of a lamination base material, or between base material and conductive foil or protective coating.

Barrymore is my 20 pound, Siamese mix who is very atypical for that breed. He rarely "talks"; usually only when he's not feeling well, or wants something really bad, (food) or is very upset. Even then, he lets out a little peep and that's about it! Those blue eyes of his speak volumes, though. He can bore a hole through you by staring!

Of all my cats, Barrymore is the most cuddly. He thinks he should be a lap cat, and has to always have physical contact with me. (Imagine falling asleep in front of the tv, and being awakened by what feels like a furry bowling ball being dropped into your lap! LOL!) If he's not doing that, he's standing on my foot. He's a real Mama's boy!

Barrymore is also the most aggressive of my cats. He considers himself the ruler of the place, although Tigger proved him wrong pretty easily by breaking off a claw in his nose when they got into a spat! He routinely beats poor Squeegee to a pulp, and still gets pretty hostile with Tigger when they get into one of their staring matches. Tig won't back down unless I call him and break it up. He usually will be the one to walk away, but Barrymore...never!

I got More-More when he was a tiny kitten. He was the cutest thing I'd ever seen! Even then, he looked like a short-haired Himalayan, not as gaunt as the Siamese cats usually are. I brought him in my house, and the first thing he did was kiss my mother, who immediately fell in love with him. She became his "person" until just before her death. He knew she was dying and began standing on my feet, something he only did with Mom. Since then, he's been my owner!

The second thing he did upon moving in, was to attack Squeegee, who was then three years old. He jumped on his back and dug in, biting all the while. Squeeks just shrugged him off, but it's been pretty much that way ever since. He is dominant. I was grateful when I got Tigger, because Squeegee has health problems, and had he been the dominant male, Tigger and he would've had a go round on a regular basis, which Squeeks couldn't endure. Those two are the best of friends!

I processed this pic to look more like a painting, and did a little airbrush on it to remove distractions and to enhance Barrymore's eye color, which photographs very pale. This is how his eyes look in person. He's a pretty boy!

In Overture, Diploma staff Wen Li and Wang Yan Li take a break as they work hard to keep the floor dry and safe for guests.

Storms Double Diploma’s Duties at USA Pavilion

We sat in the office as the thunder rumbled above. Rain poured down as our walkie-talkie crackled to life. “We need people down here with mops and squeegees!,” shouted a Student Ambassador. The ‘duty ops’ manager swiftly responded, “Call Diploma!”

Diploma is responsible for the cleaning and maintenance of the USA Pavilion. With more than 45,000 guests passing through the doors daily, it requires enormous dedication and hard work to keep our pavilion clean. They are some of the unsung heroes of the USA Pavilion, who, along with the other staffs here, enable us to give guests a good experience.

£10 camera from a junk shop, £3 dev tank, £10 batch of chemicals bought from a chap on Gumtree, poundshop measuring jugs and £3 changing bag from a boot sale. It was like magic when I first saw images on my negs. Guessed temps - must get a thermometer and squeegee...

Wash your windows the quickest path with completely clear, without streak results. Take a stab at washing windows with a squeegee and you'll never return to a shower jug and paper towels. Squeegees get your glass clear and streak free in a small amount of the time it takes with paper towels. Look at the essential window washing gear you need and the straightforward strides to follow for quick, clear outcomes when cleaning windows.

I'm lucky I have any images at all after the the film snapped at the end of the roll which then slackened the film meaning the teeth stopped pulling along the film.

Only thing to do now is get some new developer and invest in a good squeegee.

2014

September 21, 2017, Fort Myers, Florida. American Red Cross forklift driver Dave Goodman loads cleanup kits and water on a box truck for distribution to people cleaning up their homes in the aftermath of Hurricane Irma. Red Cross cleanup kits contain a 5 gallon bucket with lid, 20 oz cotton wet mop, push broom, squeegee, scrub brush, cellulose sponge, leather palm work gloves, medical exam gloves, a respirator mask, heavy duty garbage bags (3), Pine-Sol cleaner, and Clorox bleach. These supplies are essential for cleaning up one’s home but are often hard to find in the aftermath of a disaster.
