I am at the park enjoying my Sprite and to my delight there is no one in sight. Now I know it says "Sprint" on my can but Sprite has not given the OK for me to post me and my soda.
The meteor is a bit faint in this shot, but it's there slicing through the image horizontally in about the middle. I've brightened the image a bit in post. This is one of the images in the AuroraDance timelapse. I particularly enjoyed watching how quickly it moved and how often the little "sprites" bloomed and glowed then dimmed. There are definitely bluish tinged lights here which I believe implies interaction with sunlight higher in the atmosphere.
See the whole sequence as a timelapse here.

This photo was taken immediately after the previous one. A smaller, denser cluster of sprites can be seen just above the clouds and to the left of center. Also, as a bonus, a meteor appears in the upper left!

During the night on the 27th of Oct. 2025, 102 TLEs* were observed over #thunderstorms at NE. Aegean Sea, close to Lesvos isl. and NW Turkey. This is a so called "Jellyfish" red sprite event (a term used by sprite-chasers). That is, a group of "carrot" sprites stacked together, creating a red "dome" on top and a "forest" of tendrils at the bottom. Some clouds can also be seen at the bottom end, where the tendrils are. My spot was at E. Attica, looking towards Evia's isl. mountains and NE Aegean Sea.
*TLEs (like red sprites) are upper atmospheric electrical discharges (cold plasma to be precise) and they appear, under specific circumstances, above thunderstorms (e.g. red sprites appear at altitudes of 40-90 km).
For this one, I've used a #Sigma 85 mm lens at f/1.4, for 1/25'' with 40 k iso.

I made this very precious set of sprite's hat and a scarf in red and a pretty yellow mustard. I embroidered some flowers with gold beads with red beads of cristal swarovsky. I also sew a little gold spherical bell, just like a sprite!
Can she look more cute and precious?
Latest in the Enchanted Forest Series. I think I may have to have her. Pre-orders for members only until 2/23.
So, do you need her?

Here is another bit of fantasy with pareidolia. This is a small tree trunk sticking out of the snow. The features look to me like a small wood sprite. Or maybe even Pinocchio? Enjoy the weekend everyone.
This was a very prolific session, concerning TLEs. More than 120 events were observed during the evening of Nov. 11, 2023 over #thunderstorms at E. Aegean Sea and W. Turkey. This is a halo event (the red "disk") accompanied by red sprites below.

Rather a large section of sill missing here. Hopefully it's in the process of being returned to the road. Currently on SORN and has been out of MOT since 2012, when it received a rather lengthy fail sheet.

Big Red Sprite on 15-16.10.2020, over the thunderstorms of the Ionian sea. I've used a Sigma 20 mm lens at f/1.4 with 25.6k iso. More about the Greek Team chasing red sprites and TLEs in general: antisimvatikos.blogspot.com/2019/05/tles-greek-archive-of...

Located in a hilly area of Majayjay town, Laguna, this waterfall was only made accessible to visitors 5 years ago. It was a trek of a few hundred steps down a steep, wooded slope - not a big problem but getting back up was the hard part.
Sprites with halo (red disk over the sprites), on Feb. 12-13, 2024, over thunderstorms at the Aegean Sea. Halos occur due to the same mechanism responsible for sprites, appear higher than them, at 70–85 km, last for some ms, and look like faint red disks with a typical diameter of less than 100 km.

More than 30 TLEs were observed during the evening of Nov. 13, 2023 over thunderstorms at SE. Aegean Sea. Parent lightning flash seen below. The dark horizontal patches are clouds. Orion nebula can be seen on top.

Finally caught a lineup of sprites a couple weeks ago—April 23—near Guyman, Oklahoma, looking 130 miles north at convection over western Kansas. At that distance I thought they'd be higher up and shot as wide as I could. It was interesting to see that they popped about 15-19° above the horizon. Which means I can shoot tighter next time and hopefully try for more detail. Also need to shorten my exposures so there is less sky integration for them to compete with.
