Burlington Northern train 203 cruises through Stratford, Illinois, on October 15, 1988. The westbound freight is powered by two members of BN’s huge EMD SD40-2 fleet.

At sunset, an eastbound Milwaukee Road “Sprint” piggyback train approaches Signal Bridge 19 at Sheffield Tower in Kansas City, Missouri, on December 8, 1985. This is on the Kansas City Terminal and this area has changed just a bit, with the signals gone and a flyover passing over the place instead of the interlocking.

Burrowing Owl

The Burrowing Owl (Athene cunicularia) is a small, long-legged owl found throughout open landscapes of North and South America. Burrowing owls can be found in grasslands, rangelands, agricultural areas, deserts, or any other open dry area with low vegetation. They nest and roost in burrows, such as those excavated by prairie dogs. Unlike most owls, burrowing owls are often active during the day, although they tend to avoid the midday heat. Like many other kinds of owls, though, burrowing owls do most of their hunting from dusk until dawn, when they can use their night vision and hearing to their advantage. Living in open grasslands as opposed to forests, the burrowing owl has developed longer legs that enable it to sprint, as well as fly, when hunting.

Burrowing owls have bright eyes; their beaks can be dark yellow or gray depending on the subspecies. They lack ear tufts and have a flattened facial disc. The owls have prominent white eyebrows and a white "chin" patch which they expand and display during certain behaviors, such as a bobbing of the head when agitated.

This was from a senior picture shoot I did. He was really into Sprint Car Racing so I had a lot of fun with that. But with this shot I really enjoyed the intense focus he had. Really cool to see

Too Windy to get out with the cameras. This is from this past December. Chased by a fast moving front, the clouds were moving so fast that morning they were losing their form, stretching out across the sky like gum. The scraggly trees ain't much but man, that sky. Thanks for the look and have a good week.

After a short rest brake at Dordrecht Zuid, the final sprint towards Dordrecht follows. At Dordrecht, the sprint ends, although I would rather call it a marathon, as this service (Sprinter 5954) came from Roosendaal, in total 37,4 kilometres.

Seen once again in perfect conditions, RL309 and sister QUBE logistics unit RL310 sprint North to Somerton with 7635 empty grain having just unloaded at North Geelong in the states South West.

This train operates from Somerton as #MC4 to Oaklands for loading, before running back as #CM4 to Somerton loaded. From here, the train will either operate to Appleton Dock or North Geelong for unloading. On this occasion, the train went to North Geelong grain loop for unloading.

Once at Somerton after the train has been unloaded, the locomotives run light engine to North Dynon for refueling and prepping for their next run North.

It's a gorgeous April afternoon in Milwaukee, as Soo Line Sprint train 210 departs the tannery crossing after changing crews. Still looking like a Milwaukee Road Sprint train, myself and railroad photographer Greg Mross couldn't help but to take in and photograph this soon to vanish TOFC train.

Not sure if this is a 1.3 or 1.5, but either way I imagine it would be a fun thing to drive on the French country roads.

Oh hey that thing I've been teasing for like 3 years.

The guys over at The LEGO Car Blog are running a contest having something to do with appeasing their elves. They say extra kudos points go to the contestants who somehow include an elf in their entries. You may as well just hand the prize to me, boys. Sprint racing is dangerous, dirty and stupid...which leads me to believe the elves will get their little panties in a bunch over this. Seems this foolish elf has discovered his own definition of Sprint Racing!

Seen at the Oceanside terminus, the North County Transit District’s Sprinter is a hybrid rail service (commuter train with light rail characteristics) that serves 14 stations between Oceanside and Escondido in San Diego County. The service is operated by Siemens Desiro VT642 DMUs.

Oceanside station is a showpiece for Siemens rail technology, as it is also served by the Amtrak Pacific Surfliner and the NCTD Coaster commuter rail services. Both feature haulage by Siemens SC-44 diesel locomotives.

I decided to return to this location to capture a Class 150 Sprinter which I believe are perhaps more photogenic than the less attractive pacer units. The location is Pontlottyn in the Rhymney Valley of South Wales, with an 09:30 Arriva Trains Wales service from Rhymney to Penarth.

One of the more elusive vehicles in the Wellglade group fleets is 1025 WX06UTR a Mercedes UVM Sprinter that was new to Milton Keynes Community Transport. I believe it was initially allocated to the Midland General licence for the door 2 door service in Derby. It did however at some point receive Unibus livery which is a Notts & Derby operation.

My first entry to Round 1 of this year's Iron Forge! The seed part is used 4 times in the 50947 variety – specifically the fun printed ones from this Tiny Turbos set. As soon as I saw I had these, I knew I had to use the red headlights as eyes, and the idea of a sprinting robot was born instantly.

Had some fun with the pictures and tried to give the bot some personality. Check out the alternate shot!

One of the prototype Class 150 Sprinters, 150001, at Matlock on 17 July 1985. The Sprinter is carrying a small headboard reading "Sprinter Link" - 150001 was new in late 1984, so was possibly in it's early weeks of service on the Matlock line in this pic?
