Flag iris (Iris pseudacorus), also known as yellow flag, yellow iris, water flag, and lever. Possibly useful in this spot, as the water course runs out of the former Cwmbran Colliery and close to foundries which operated here for two hundred years, since it absorbs heavy metals through its roots.

This shot of Spring Vale Library depicts the facility as it appeared in June 2009, complete with flat roof and a little maze of white handrails.

A mosaic board at the entrance to Springvale Ponds, off the Springvale Industrial Estate. The ponds have been formed from a stream running out of the old Cwmbran Colliery. Thankfully, it seems to have escaped the depredations of many who regard such efforts as a target.
