These things look like aliens, or something from a kid's cartoon. Indredibly small but fun to photograph, if you can find them.

Springtails walking on water

Taken using my DIY dark-field setup so the light shines through the subject but the light below looks dark.

Much easier to line up the subject than it is with the MPE-65 as you can look over the much narrower lens end to see where the subject is.

I think this was beaten off pencil pine. Paronellidae?

About 1.5mm long- think it's a springtail- on my car as usual :)

Found a few more Springtails, all the same species Entomobrya nivalis, hope I got that one right, Springtail ID is a tricksy business, quite enjoying looking at these teeny little things :)

(疣跳蟲科)體長2.3-2.8mm，體色紅色，頭部粉紅色，觸角肉質4節，胸腹間無明顯區隔，各體節呈疣狀條紋，背具中線，體背有不明顯的黃褐色斑紋，斑紋無突起現象。生活於低海拔山區，常見棲息枯木或潮濕的枯葉裡，黃昏或雨中有時會爬到地面活動。本種體色鮮艷，爬行緩慢，不會彈跳，為普遍分布的種類。

不過嘎嘎老師沒把學名寫出來，只說是「疣跳蟲科」，中興大學昆蟲系師生的一篇「認識跳蟲」，把這種跳蟲底下只寫了Neanuridae，因為不是專家，也是看得霧殺殺XD..似乎跳蟲在分類方法上，還有許多學者有不同意見，有興趣、看得懂得人可以去找來研究一下

Springtail - Vertagopus arboreus

Springtail not sure about this it is at f16. I usually use a different apperture. Tomocerus minor

The real size is 3.09 mm, magnification is 5.46

Tried a shot using a 24mm prime lens reversed on tubes, almost filled the whole frame with this guy, Collembola spp. Orchesella cincta (ID thanks to J.J. (Kent) )
