Not the first time I've seen these around here, but the first time I've found them under stones; usually they seem to be on plants.

The sundews are just poking their heads up. This one has attracted a mass of collembola.

Springtails on acer leaf -Proisotoma minuta. The springtails seem to like playing king of the castle and concentrate on the leaf edges and tips. The leaves are in a compost bin. Springtails about 0.8mm body length max.

Many, MANY springtails living under the bark of a dying tree.

Collembola

These things look like aliens, or something from a kid's cartoon. Indredibly small but fun to photograph, if you can find them.

Springtails walking on water

Small globular springtail taken with a 4X microscope lens setup. Hand focus stacked from 3 shots.

Much easier to line up the subject than it is with the MPE-65 as you can look over the much narrower lens end to see where the subject is.

I think this was beaten off pencil pine. Paronellidae?
