In the garden at Winterthur from our visit last May. I realized I have lots of unposted pictures! So maybe having a broken foot has some up side...
I had my husband put his hand in the picture for scale. These peonies were amazing!
Magnolia stellata in my neighbor's yard just beginning to bloom. This is a lovely small tree and is fragrant and beautiful in bloom!
We are having an abbreviated winter -yesterday and today down into the high 30s but will be back into the 50s tomorrow and 60s on Tuesday!
The Columbine at Longwood last April were amazing. Every color or combination you could imagine. I took soooo many pictures!
Iris by a pond at Plant Delights Nursery in Raleigh NC.
This place is amazing. The nursery is normally a mail order only nursery but is open to the public a few weekends a year. Luckily, the weekend we were there was one! In addition to the nursery, there is a botanical garden that is amazing.
Thanks to Flickr friend Ira for taking me there last year and again this year! I bought 3 Hellebores for my garden!
My Hellebores are in full swing now. Some of them have been in bloom for more than a month. They are always the first to bloom in my garden and I have one that blooms in December! You can see a big clump of pink ones in the background here.
...please let this shot turn out as I see it! Shot of Flickr friend Ira Tucker taking a shot

My husband and I just returned from 5 days in the Raleigh, North Carolina area. We went down mainly to see an exhibit of Ansel Adams photography and an exhibit of the Renaissance art of Venice at the North Carolina Museum of Art. We were lucky to connect with Flickr friend Ira Tucker ( I met him last year when a friend and I were going to Myrtle Beach) and spend a wonderful day with him and his wife. We went to the JC Raulston Arboretum, Little Theatre Rose Garden, lunch and then Plant Delights Nursery, and more! He is the perfect tour guide for the gardens in the area because he spends so much time there. He knows what is in bloom when and where to get the best shots.
Before we left, we met Ira at the Sarah P. Duke Gardens this morning for yet another photo op tour.
Thanks again Ira for another great day and evening! We really enjoyed every minute!
More pics to come!!!
My two Viburnums are in bloom - first up in the fragrance garden every year. It pouring rain today but yesterday I was mowing the lawn for the first time in 2017 and each time I rode past these, I got a wonderful blast of their fragrance. Wish I could upload that!
Do view large!
This is the second spring that this tree has been in our yard and the best so far! It is covered in buds and the flowers are opening over time rather than all at once. So beautiful! It's supposed to bloom from spring through first frost!
I just can't get enough of these wonderful early bloomers! This variety starts out quite pale and darkens with age so it's a constantly changing bouquet!
Still very unsettled weather. We bounced down to a few cold days in the 30s and now are back up in the 50sF today! So much for winter!
Here's a full view of our Yashino Cherry tree now in glorious bloom! The tree is about 25 feet tall and wide and is gorgeous. There are 4 flowering cherry trees in the yard that were here when we bought the house. The other 3 bloom later and are pink double flowered. The branches in this shot on the right side are from one of those pink trees.
Wonderful day today much of which I spent in the garden doing spring clean up chores. I'm a happy camper!
Every two years, we have the arborist come to prune all the ornamental trees so they stay healthy and look good.
At Winterthur. The viburnum was blooming all along the path and the fragrance was heavenly. There was also a cat bird up in the trees serenading us as we walked along. Winterthur has some champion trees. The DuPonts were very concerned with preserving the old growth trees both here and at Longwood. Many of them are breathtakingly tall and wonderful!
Somewhere I have a video on my phone...I'll have to find it!
Clematis 'Jackmanni Superba' in my garden. A late bloomer that comes out once the early ones are through.
Happy Birthday to Flickr friend Veebruar!

Another Hellebore in my garden.
We went to Longwood Gardens today for the penultimate day of their Orchid Extravaganza and it was certainly extravagant! This arch of orchids was right inside the main conservatory doors. Every room had orchids- even the desert room! I took LOTS of pictures.
I was trying to get a picture with no people and the little character on the left snuck into my shot. My guess is he was after the coins people toss into this fountain pool!!
