The conservatory at Longwood was filled with the fragrance of hundreds of lilies in bloom. Just heavenly and these blooms were as big as a luncheon plate!

A view in the marina where we have our boat. Somehow I missed posting this back in May!

One of the Orchids on display for the Longwood Gardens Orchid Extravaganza! These colors were amazing!

I have both red and yellow cherry tomatoes that will soon be ripe!! Yummy

So I am in the middle of moving my photos to an outboard drive as my laptop is running out of space. Lightroom and I are not having a good time together! We shall see.....

One of the Hellebores developing seeds. I will welcome any volunteers!

Helleborus niger 'HGC Josef Lemper'

Shot in the park nearby. It was such a glorious weekend but I was in most of the time. Had a few hours to check out the park and what was flowering and glad I did.

I see beyond the grass,

a sky etched in glass!

the merger of land and sky,

seems to fool the eye.

Sometimes in still waters be,

the quiet look of tranquility.

The house is built into the side of a hill so from this side it appears to only be 4 stories tall- however it is 9 stories tall!

On the tour, we learned that this glass conservatory room was one of Henry du Pont's favorite places for entertaining guests for cocktails and cards.

Almost 60 years ago, collector and horticulturist Henry Francis du Pont (1880–1969) opened his childhood home, Winterthur, to the public. Today, Winterthur (pronounced “winter-tour”) is the premier museum of American decorative arts, with an unparalleled collection of nearly 90,000 objects made or used in America between about 1640 and 1860. The collection is displayed in the magnificent 175-room house, much as it was when the du Pont family lived here, as well as in permanent and changing exhibition galleries.

On the house tour we got to see about 20 of those rooms. An amazing place.

This little buy is always vacuuming up the spilled seed under the bird feeders. He ran behind our shed when I walked near but I was able to get a quick shot of little Chippy!

Another Columbine at Longwood Gardens. There were so many colors - it was breathtaking!

Sunsets along the Mississippi backwaters can be enchanting

Day 108 / 365

It poured rain all day yesterday so I did not get to peek in the box. There were no eggs when I looked on the 5th so my guess is that momma laid one yesterday and one this morning. The mother lays one per day until she is done and then sits on the nest. It's going to be down in the 30sF tonight so I hope all will be well.

...enchanting details around every corner! The house has several wings and walking around the exterior you can find wonderful little vignettes like this.

Love to see honey bees any time and place. I don't blame them for being attracted to these beautiful poppies! These were at the JC Raulston Arboretum.

Our double blossom Cherry trees are coming into flower and they will be fantastic this year! Our arborist came today to thin out the crowns and shape them up. I'll get some full views once they really open up!

Another shot from our visit to Winterthur in May. They had some beautiful peonies there.

I know winter hasn't even started but almost all of my flowers are done for the year- only one rose is holding out and I'm already thinking of spring!

This Hellebore was a garden trade with a friend and I have no idea what variety it is other than prolific and beautiful. The blooms on this one tend to face downward, but this one was looking up just enough to get a close shot!

We are now having a return to cooler weather. Down in the 40s today and very windy! A freeze tonight.....

In my garden from a trade with a neighbor. I had the darker and white varieties in my old yard and didn't move any so was glad to get this one and the darker one in trade!

Yashino cherry blossoms in my yard. Many thanks to Flickr friend virginiarose for the ID. This tree was here when we bought our house and is beautiful!!!

As is the "new" normal...it was nearly 80F today after being in the low 40s yesterday....

My guess is mom may lay one or two more before she sits the nest. I peeked in yesterday and Pop was dive bombing my head to I didn't wait for a picture! Once momma starts sitting the nest, is will be 10-12 days for the eggs to hatch. They will fledge in about 3 weeks.

The Dogwood trees are loaded with buds and some are beginning to open! I just love these. Cornus florida 'Cherokee Brave'

A ring of Columbine surrounding one of the fountains. They were the most delightful colors and forms! You can see some in the background here- more closeups to come!
