One of Gods most beautiful creations...

A Silvereye demonstrating how noxious weeds get spread. The plant is lantana, a rather invasive weed in general, although this may be one of the varieties that is not so bad. I did suggest it might be an idea to get rid of it.

Have a wonderful week.

The practice of spreading lime on agricultural land as a fertiliser is thought to have started in the 16th century.

Agricultural lime, also called aglime, Biolime, agricultural limestone, garden lime or liming, is a soil additive made from pulverized limestone or chalk. The primary active component is calcium carbonate. Additional chemicals vary depending on the mineral source and may include calcium oxide, magnesium oxide and magnesium carbonate.

The effects of agricultural lime on soil are:

it increases the pH of acidic soil (the higher the pH the less acidic the soil); in other words, soil acidity is reduced and alkalinity increased

it provides a source of calcium and magnesium for plants

it permits improved water penetration for acidic soils

it improves the uptake of major plant nutrients (nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium) of plants growing on acid soils.

If you want to make lime for your garden the olde way, here are your instructions:

Cut gorse, ferns, thorns, and underwood, in winter, where limestone is at hand; plough a ridge seven yards wide; place thereon a layer of fuel, then limestone, and so on alternatively to the height of three yards; and make flues in the fuel in all directions, that the fire may pervade the whole heap. Then cover the kiln with sods, and upon those, clay or marl; then set fire to it, and when it is well kindled, stop the mouths of the flues, and let it burn until the fire breaks out through the clay or marl; then cover again, and so on, until the fire breaks out the third time, when it will have burned sufficiently: when cooled a little, open it, and carry the lime to where it is wanted. Bestow lime once in nine years upon arable land and once in 18 years upon grassland.

Garasia girl - Darbargadh Poshina

Poshina

About 18 kms from Ambaji in Sabarkantha district, Poshina takes one back to the simple beauty of traditional village life, populated by a captivating mélange of colorful tribal communities of the Garasias, Bhils and the pastoral Rabaris. Poshina is home to a tribal shrine where you find the staggering scene of thousands of terracotta horses standing in rows as offerings to the local goddess. Nearby villages have similar horses carved in reverence to her divinity. A visit to the homes of the potters who make these striking horses is an excellent glimpse into tribal culture.

In Poshina you find the Darbargadh Poshina, once a palace, and now a welcoming heritage hotel, with huge gateways, a massive dome, numerous pillars and arches, a pleasant courtyard, gardens, lawns and terraces, owned by the descendants of the Chalukyas, whose empire spread through much of Gujarat and Central India in the 12th century. You also find old Jain sandstone temples of Parshvanath and Neminath and an old Shiva temple.

This is strictly a western North America species. They habituate most of the Rockies chain westward... but not normally including the coastal states. The males' nearest lookalike is the eastern Ruby-throated... but that Hummer is in a different Genus. Ruby-throated females have no rufous feathering in the tail area that this gal shows when the tail is spread. While Hummer strays can show up sporadically anywhere, the mapped areas include no overlap for these two species.

People spread and a four-way-traffic. 😬

Kibati camp is between the government forces postions and the CNDP rebels, about a kilometer separates them.

Through our implementing partner Solidarites we started the distribution of plastic sheets, blankets, jerrycans, soap, and cooking sets to thousands in Kibati; these are essential survival items that will ward off diseases such as malaria, respiratory infections, cholera, diarrhea, etc. We aim to serve 3,000 families.

At the same time we had measles vaccinations continue for 13,000 children in Kibati; like cholera, measles risks spreading rapidly during large population movement and is a major child killer

With our partner Save the Children we working on reuniting children with their families; 152 children separated from their families identified in Kibati since Oct 27th. Our partner Mercy corps was trucking water for tens of thousands of displaced; hundreds of latrines constructed; and hygiene practices promoted; all these interventions are critical to containing the spread of cholera and diarrhea epidemics.

Connaught Place, New Delhi

From Wikipedia

A commercial building in Connaught Place

(officially Rajeev Chowk) is one of the largest financial, commercial and business centers in Delhi. It is often abbreviated as CP and houses the headquarters of several Indian firms. Its surroundings occupy a place of pride amongst the heritage structures of the city. It was developed as a showpiece of Lutyens' Delhi featuring a Central Business District. Named after the Duke of Connaught, the construction work was started in 1929 and completed in 1933. The Connaught Place of today is one of the most vibrant business districts of Delhi. But with the development have also come certain problems, like dispute over property rights, encroachments, haphazard development, unauthorized construction, traffic congestion and others.

Urban structure

Robert Tor Russell, chief architect to the Government of India designed Connaught Place in 1932 based upon an outline by W.H. Nichollas (the committee's architect from 1913-1917). The area is instantly recognizable on any map of Delhi, being the big circle in the middle with radial roads spreading out in all directions, like spokes on a wheel. Eight separate roads lead out from Connaught's inner circle, named Parliament Street and Radial Roads 1 through 7. Twelve different roads lead out from Connaught Circus, the outer ring; the most well-known of these is Janpath, the continuation of Radial Road 1. Despite the logically planned area, over time specific shops became frustratingly hard to find due to the various one way streets and heavy traffic. Connaught Place's obvious Georgian architecture is modeled after the Royal Crescent in Bath, England.

Or rather, a tiny fraction of our spread. I don't even really remember what the main dish photographed was but as always, our food here was very good. Also with a large group, their seating arrangements were better as we got a round table, which helped with conversation.

I'm lucky to work for a company where we go out to dinner at places like this instead of the Rainforest Café.

Former Chief Photographer of the 'Yellow Advertiser' newspaper Group gave me 2 tins of bulk Ilford film -- this was a 'test ' on the July 1993 dated HP5+ . I found it was down to 100 ASA now. I used my 'Acutol-S FX-15 Formula 1+1' to process as I found it gives a lower 'Fog Level' with old B&W film. I took MORE but they were the 'Same Test Subjects' I have shown many times before. I used my Son's 'Gift' KONICA Autoreflex TC camera he never uses with a Weston Master V meter as the batteries are 2 illegal 'Mecury 'types and not working. Here I used the HEXANON AR 50mm f1. at f2.8 New Artwork on wall of 'The Spread Eagle' Pub Brentwood

Communication and community engagement are essential to stop and prevent the spread of Ebola. UNICEF is supporting the establishment of community committees, and is engaging with trusted individuals and networks, including religious leaders, youth and women’s groups, business leaders, as well as Ebola survivors themselves. Survivor testimonies help to reduce fear and encourage people to seek early treatment.

Lwanzo Kahindo, pictured here, is part of the community group of women from the Somamu association in the Mukuna area. The women meet with families each day to encourage them to seek early treatment, explain the mode of transmission of the disease, and ask if they are in good health or if anyone is sick in their community.
