In-coming Spoonie!

Always cool to catch one of these prehistoric-like critters in flight!

And luckily they're big enough, and slow enough for the 7D AF to keep up with them when they're comin'-atcha.

They may be big and gangly, awkward, and unattractive in the facial area,

But they're PINK, so who cares!

My thanks to the people at the Viera Wetlands that persisted,

and even drew a map in the sand to show me how to find Dan Click's Ponds.

An afrenoon exercise walk @ Snettisham. A low tide & majoritu of the wading birds have gone north now. Cool northerly breeze. Managed a distant video of a pair of feral Barnacle geese, a few Med gulls on their island & a single very distant roosting Spoonbil way up the far bank of the pool

taken in Texas at one of my favorite rookeries...

Flash made the wings shine a bit. He's just landing and I liked the water splash.

The adult has a "bald" head that is kind of greenish in color - also the eye is much redder. The juvenile's eyes are darkish. Pretty soon he will be bald, too!

With every trip to the Everglades there is the thought that....."I hope we see some spoonies today".

When the sun's directly overhead, and one of these guys fly overhead, it almost looks like they're battery powered the way the primaries and secondaries light up!

he's enjoying his new face, but otherwise not feeling very well

I guess that these beauties pack on their vibrant colors during the breeding season, but I don’t see them at that time of the year. They do visit the bayou and a seen foraging in the shallows and snapping up their food. Roseate Spoonbill taken on Armand Bayou.

Sending all of my Flickr friends up north a bit of warm air from our 77º day today! These are not from today’s trip but they should get the message across! These two shots are dedicated to all the people who Wannabe Warmer Wednesday! Have a great day tomorrow! Roseate Spoonbills taken on Armand Bayou near the boat launch at Bay Area Park!

All afternoon on the bayou and a power outage after I arrived home has put me a bit behind! I’ll get there!!!

As nice as this image turned out, it was a total grab shot. I was looking the other way when this bird decide it was going to leave. I caught it out of the corner of my eye and swung quickly ripping a burst of about 10 frames. I always try to instill on the need to not just shoot a couple of shots and then check the back of the camera....you will inevitably loose the best frame when you do."Make a movie" a good friend told me.
