The folks for the Walking Dead panel were a little late. They're in the middle of shooting season two in the metro Atlanta area and - SURPRISE! - they get caught in Atlanta traffic.

Even though they were late, they put on a good panel. The kids were absolutely hilarious. One question from the crowd was this: "Assuming a zombie apocalypse is possible and has occurred, what is your chosen method of dispatching zombies?" The adults said "shoot it in the head." Each of the three kids had a more creative method: a knife slice down the middle of the skull, a chainsaw to mutilate the head, and setting the entire zombie on fire.

Unfortunately, we were advised before hand not to talk about the Frank Darabont situation. He recently left the show after a spat with AMC. Mad Men wanted more money from the network, and they got it, taking money from the Walking Dead which is their highest rated show. This led to the split. It leaves a lot in the air since Darabont seems to have been the creative force behind making season one a success. Indeed, when the panel were asked questions not directly related to Darabont and instead about their experiences on the set and how they perceive their characters, they spoke highly of the genius of Darabont.

The situation was awkward, and not much was learned. The only thing I was able to take away from the discussion is that if season two does not live up to expectations, it will not be the fault of the actors.

Diocletian's Palace, Split (Italian: Spalato, Latin: Spalatum), Croatia

The palace was built for Diocletian in the early 4th century. The emperor spent the rest of his life here after his abdication. The complex combines the qualities of a luxury residence with a military camp.

The palace was integrated into the urban texture of the medieval Split. It was "discovered" in the 18th century. Robert Adam, the neoclassical architect studied the palace intensively.

The site is included in the World Cultural Heritage list of UNESCO.

Split is a Mediterranean city on the eastern shores of the Adriatic Sea, centred around the ancient Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian and its bay and port. With a population of 178,192 citizens, and a metropolitan area numbering up to 467,899, Split is by far the largest Dalmatian city and the second-largest city of Croatia. Spread over a central peninsula and its surroundings, Split's greater area includes the surrounding seaside towns as well. An intraregional transport hub, the city is a link to numerous Adriatic islands and the Apennine peninsula, as well as a popular tourist destination.

Split is also one of the oldest cities in the area. While it is traditionally considered just over 1,700 years old counting from the construction of Diocletian's Palace in AD 305, archaeological research relating to the original founding of the city as the Greek colony of Aspálathos (Aσπάλαθος) in the 6th century BC, establishes the urban tradition of the area as being several centuries older.

On the evening of July 31, 1910, Split Rock light flashed more than 20 miles across Lake Superior for the very first time. For nearly 60 years, the light guided ships that carried ore from Minnesota's iron ranges to steel mills on the lower Great Lakes. In 1924 the North Shore highway was completed and passed within a half mile of the light. Split Rock soon became one of the most visited lighthouses in the nation.

Possibly this species, Schizophyllum commune. Any help with confirming ID would be much appreciated! Found growing out of a silage, hay or straw bale, wrapped in black plastic. Dorset, 1st November 2009.
