In 2011 Split, Croatia briefly featured in most of world's media. Not for the architecture, Festival of Mediterranean Film, Roman palace or 140% rise in room nights from tourism but for the horrific treatment of the first Split Gay Pride. Stones, firecrackers, spitting and Nazi salute chanting of 10000 angry citizens greeted just 300 pride participants. It was a very dark day in the history of my city.
Fast forward 2012.. I woke up today thinking ah.. going for a coffee and then off to get stoned.. The day of Split Pride 2012 arrived. This time it was better, bigger and 100% safe. New coalition government has shown the full commitment to human rights and this time made sure that Pride was a success. Split was a better place today then a year ago and so is the whole of Croatia.
Split leg drawers from the late Victorian or early 1900's. Drawers also went by the name of bloomers and pantaloons.
Split Tongue Crow played a tripple-billed show @ the Sumner Night Chapel as part of the Keene Music Festival series to benefit the restoration of the Chapel. A band new to me, I was blown away! Also in the lineup were Big Paws and Blackjack Crossing. Check out pictures of their sets as well, and go buy everyone's music, or better yet, see them live!

"Split is the second-largest city of Croatia and the largest city of the region of Dalmatia. It lies on the eastern shore of the Adriatic Sea, centred on the Roman Palace of the Emperor Diocletian. Spread over a central peninsula and its surroundings, Split's greater area includes the neighboring seaside towns as well. An intraregional transport hub and popular tourist destination, the city is a link to numerous Adriatic islands and the Apennine peninsula." (source: Wikipedia)
When one side of a tree heats up and the sap begins running, it becomes especially succeptible to damage when it gets cold again. This is very commonly seen as "southwest damage" in temperate zone trees.
Of course, chaotic weather can weaken entire forests this way, making them more succeptible to secondary predation by insects or pathogens.
