Konstanz is a German city in the federal state of Baden-Württemberg located on the southern shore of Lake Constance (Bodensee in German) and bordering Switzerland. It is the largest and most densely populated city of this great lake, the largest in Germany, fed by the Rhine River and shared with two other countries: Switzerland and Austria. The city of Constanza forms a single real urban area together with the Swiss town of Kreuzlingen, surpassing both 100,000 inhabitants.

There is a bridge that divides the city into two zones, under which the Rhine feeds Lake Constance.

In spite of being a small city, its climatology turns it into a tourist destination and it increases remarkably its seasonal inhabitants.

The old town and, therefore, place of maximum interest of the city is on the southern bank of the Rhine, where only this portion of German land surrounded by Swiss territory exists. From the same bridge over the Rhine (Rheinbrücke) that accesses the old town from the north of the city, there are two of the most characteristic monuments of the city: the Pulverturm and Rheintorturm towers, of medieval origin.

More towards the center of the old city, the most important squares stand out, the Markstätte and the Münsterplatz, where, as its name indicates, there is the Cathedral of Our Lady. Inside it is remarkable the original Romanesque crypt, built between 1052 and 1089 and located under the current altar. In the summer months, the 76-meter tower of the building is open to the public and allows a splendid view of the lake. As expected in any European building of these characteristics, the original Romanesque building has important elements and subsequent Gothic and Baroque modifications.

Also on the Münsterplatz are the remains of a Roman fortress, which are perfectly visible by means of a glass pyramid on the floor of the square, at the very foot of the cathedral.

The "Schnetztor" door from inside the wall of Constance.

Numerous streets in the historic center of the city, such as the Wessenbergstrasse or the Rosgartenstrasse, have a large number of medieval buildings with beautiful balconies and paintings in which you can read the date of its construction, name or guild. Many of them date from before the 15th century and interesting baroque buildings also stand out among the later ones.

The Wessenbergstrasse, one of the main arteries of the old part of the city, flows into the Hussenstrasse and this in turn into the Schnetztor tower, the main gate of the old city wall, part of which is still preserved, and direct exit towards the city of Kreuzlingen, already in Switzerland, but completely integrated with Constance, with which it forms the same urban nucleus.

We followed another route back and it was more open away from the trees. We were afforded splendid views towards the mountains beyond Loch Morlich.

Promthep Cape is the southern most part of Phuket and probably the most photographed area on the island with it's splendid views overlooking the small monastery island of Ko Kaeo Yai. To be honest there really isn't that much room to stand at the top with its steep inclines so most photos end up with the same view, including mine. This also explains why the distant island never seems to end up between the trees (mildly irritating) or at least without a conveniently placed step ladder. But then I have at least gone to lengths to avoid glowing orange sunsets which although look wonderful from here they also guarantee that the small amount of available space becomes occupied by dozens of dewy-eyed selfie takers. I have nothing against this of course, if anything I am slightly jealous that my once long flowing '80s rock band' hair is now reduced to an island with only a few trees remaining. Like many togs of my age that spend their days complaining about the price of bread and why there are no longer newspapers in coffee shops my quest is to be here alone and in that space accompanied only by a rain cloud or two. And I think this one will do nicely.

Thank you for your patience :)

This 17th century fort sits well located at the waterfront of Lagos. It even has a little drawbridge and at high tide is fully surrounded by water. On a day like this we had splendid views and enjoyed exploring this ancient stronghold.

I don't know whether I could make a point of presenting this picture but the view in front of my eyes was just awesome.

Three beaches from the Karon Viewpoint in Phuket

My morning tour of Phuket island started off at this place- the Karon Viewpoint- called Kho Sam Haad in Thai, which means ‘The Hill of the Three Beaches’. So that's exactly what you see from here- three beaches. Located quite a distance from my hotel, and on top of a hall, this is one of Phuket's most popular photo spots, and well worth a few minutes to take in the splendid view. The closest and smallest beach seen in the foreground is Kata Noi Beach. A bit further is the beautiful Kata Beach with its island ‘Koh Poo’ which means Crab Island and in the far, the very long Karon Beach.

This 110-hectare reservoir is part of a remarkable natural area with splendid views of the Pyrenees. It's a popular spot for resting, picnicking and hiking. The wide path around the lake (10km/2h30 walk) winds through the undergrowth, skirting or overlooking the lake. The site is also popular with anglers. Renowned for its pike-perch, it is also home to pike, perch, carp and roach. An upstream section of the lake is a fishing reserve, a breeding ground for many species of fish. Water birds can easily be spotted on the water and on the banks.

udapest certainly has a place of honor among European cities. Cut in two by the Danube, it offers splendid views and a dip in history.

Here, the Chain Bridge connects the hilly area of Buda to the flat area of Pest, while a cable car allows you to reach the castle hill from the historic center of Buda.

Lake Lucerne and daytrip to Mount Rigi

Mount Rigi - underground view....

Last shot of the day on the Boulby branch for us, and a fine way to finish on a glorious spring evening.

The 6F26 18:28 Boulby Mine to Tees Dock loaded polyhalite train reaches the top of the stiff climb from Crag Hall.

Photo taken from the top of Warsett Hill which offers a splendid view of the highest cliffs in England looking south, and Saltburn and the Tees Estuary looking north.

On the left is a listed building, the Fan House, which used to provide ventilation for the ironstone mines in the cliffs here.

Best enjoyed 'large'.

This was taken from the Skyline restaurant in Queenstown that literally 'hangs' off the side of the mountain. The only access to it is by cable car which is a very steep ride up and a scary ride back down. The food is buffet (all you can eat style) but is very good quality, so good in fact, that I was concerned about getting back down the mountain with the extra weight I was carrying ...LOL

BTW - the observation decks are very tripod friendly giving great vantage points to capture the splendid views

Thanks for taking the time to comment, I really appreciate it and

will always try to reciprocate with a visit back to your stream.

Splendid view over Barcelona

Some hotel room views are better than others, This is the splendid view I had from Mr Todd Hotel in Sliema.

A fountain and picnic area just outside the town with a splendid view of the Montsant. This was just moments before sunrise.

Taken about halfway up the ascent to Red Pike. A splendid view overlooking the western end of Buttermere and on towards Robinson in the English Lake District

"Every day we slaughter our finest impulses. That is why we get a heartache when we read those lines written by the hand of a master and recognize them as our own, as the tender shoots which we stifled because we lacked the faith to believe in our own powers, our own criterion of truth and beauty. Every man, when he gets quiet, when he becomes desperately honest with himself, is capable of uttering profound truths. We all derive from the same source. there is no mystery about the origin of things. We are all part of creation, all kings, all poets, all musicians; we have only to open up, only to discover what is already there."

— Henry Miller

Zilie Kalni (Blue Hills) Nature Park in the Ogre municipality is popular with holiday makers, who lead an active lifestyle or just want a breath of fresh forest air.

An EU protected habitat – a coniferous forest growing on the esker ridge of the Ogre Blue Hills – covers most of the nature park's territory and is home to 18 protected plant species, six protected bird species and several protected insect species.

A splendid view opens from the 30-meter-high observation tower on the highest of the hills.

Lake Lucerne - ready for the trip in early morning glow

As we made our way from Achmelvich to Applecross we could see the whole peninsula open up as we headed south. We had splendid views of Skye and Rassay and decided at the next available place to park we would get some photos. We stopped that this beautiful beach with vibrant red sand. Superb views over to Red and black Cuillin, Sgùrr Alasdair, and Glen Sligachan were had. We were shocked this beach had no apparent name, the only thing we could see from the map was a shared name with Applecross Bay.

Taken from the top of Bleaberry Fell in the English Lake District. There's a splendid view of Blencathra from here but today the clouds were rolling past.

Porthgain is a good place to join the Pembrokeshire Coast Path and the cliff tops here offer splendid views of the North Pembrokeshire coastline.

Literally set among the suggestive rocks of the Lucanian Dolomites , Castelmezzano , in the province of Potenza , is one of the most precious jewels of Basilicata . Its perched houses reminiscent of a crib , the rugged peaks that frame it, the small alleys and stairways that run through it offer enchanting views that truly conquer everyone and give off the perfect atmosphere for a weekend of high romance . The splendid location would be enough to make the resort an ideal destination for an extremely pleasant couple's stay , but in reality Castelmezzano has much more to offer visitors in search of a romantic atmosphere.

The emotion begins to grow already along the way when, after crossing a spectacular gorge , you find yourself walking along a tunnel dug into the rock , at the exit of which the view of the village clinging to the Lucanian Dolomites reaches straight to the heart, giving you immediately the impression of being in the right place with the right person. The shapes of the rocky peaks and their play of lights and shadows explain their evocative names, ranging from "beak of vicetta" to "lion's mouth" up to "anvil" and " golden eagle" , while the historic center with its typically medieval structure, enchants with the beauty of its houses wedged between the rocks and surmounted by roofs in sandstone slabs . Walking along the narrow alleys of the historic center and climbing the small stairways, you reach magnificent panoramic points from which to enjoy a splendid view of the surrounding landscapes , in a continuous interaction between urbanized views and natural sceneries that have earned the town the nickname of the city - nature .

Furthermore, Castelmezzano is included in the list of the Most Beautiful Villages of Italy and, admiring the artistic and architectural treasures that it holds, immediately explains why. Piazza Caizzo with the splendid mother church of Santa Maria dell'Olmo is only the beginning of a magnificent itinerary dedicated to history and beauty. Walking along the main street of the town , with the Town Hall building to adorn it, you reach the ruins of the castle and, entering the streets of the center, you discover other precious buildings ranging from the elegant Palazzo Ducale to Palazzo Coiro . Going outside the town and exploring the surroundings, you will discover other enchanting surprises. The ancient mills with roofs made of local chiang chimate stone slabs dot the Caperrino valley crossed by picturesque buildings, stairways and bridges , while vestiges of distant eras peep out among the uncontaminated scenery of the Gallipoli Cognato Piccole Dolomiti Park .

The Chausath Yogini temple is in Mitaoli village (also spelled Mitawali or Mitavali), near Padaoli in Morena district 40 kilometres (25 mi) from Gwalior.According to an inscription dated to 1323 CE (Vikram Samvat 1383), the temple was built by the Kachchhapaghata king Devapala (r. c. 1055 – 1075). It is said that the temple was the venue of providing education in astrology and mathematics based on the transit of the Sun.

The Archaeological Survey of India has declared the temple an ancient and historical monument under Act No. LXXI of 1951, dt.28/11/1951.

The Chausath Yogini Temple, Morena, also known as Ekattarso Mahadeva Temple, Standing atop an isolated hill of about hundred feet high, this circular temple commands a splendid view of the cultivated fields below. This temple is so named because of the presence of multitude of shivalingas inside its cells. This circular temple is one among the very few such temples in India. This is a yogini temple dedicated to sixty-four yoginis.

It is externally circular in shape with a radius of 170 feet and within its interior part it has 64 small chambers.Within the main central shrine there are slab coverings which have perforations in them to drain rainwater to a large underground storage. The pipe lines from the roof lead the rain water to the storage are also visible.

The design of the temple has withstood earthquake shocks, without any

damage to its circular structural features, in the past several centuries. The temple is in the Seismic Zone III.

Many of these curious visitors have compared this temple with the Indian parliament building (Sansad Bhawan) as both are circular in style. Many have drawn conclusions that this temple was the inspiration behind the Sansad Bhawan.

Living on the edge - Lean. Although I grew up in a working class area of a big city I find myself drawn to photograph the the coast and the junction of land, sea and sky. Mankind has been part of this landscape for thousands of years and we are now as much a part of it as the waves.

Although it has no beach of its own Blakeney in Norfolk, England is a popular spot for day trippers and holiday makes. It has many splendid views and walks out across marshes out to sea and a host of bird life. The village has a number of quaint arty shops and respected hotels.

Please be careful where you leave your car as the car park floods at high tide.

This photo is taken looking out across the marshes towards the spit of land known as Blakeney point.

his boardwalk hugs the scenic Changi coastline from Changi Beach Club to Changi Sailing Club. On the way to the boardwalk, you will pass many of the area's heritage trees.

The boardwalk is made up of four segments: Sunset Walk for a splendid view of the sunset over Changi Point, amid a backdrop of huge boulders. Kelong Walk: a stretch of the boardwalk with kelong stilts built over water, reminiscent of the 'good old kelong days'. Cliff Walk: located just below the hilltop chalets, allows a walk through lush greenery. Viewing decks along this stretch at vantage points provide panoramic views. Sailing Point Walk: near the Changi Sailing Club provides open views of the sea.

This is part of an Elizabethan Water Garden, constructed towards the end of the 16th century for Sir Thomas Tresham at his estate at Lyveden, near Oundle, in Northamptonshire. It was intended to take the form of a square, with spiral mounds on each corner linked by these waterways. However, like the adjacent Lyveden New Bield, it was never quite completed. The spiral mounds were to enable ladies to walk to the top and enjoy the splendid views of the countryside. The Water Garden, which is owned by the National Trust, was only discovered in the late 20th century as a result of studying wartime aerial pictures, as it was hidden away behind brambles and shrubbery.

Tresham was a Catholic politician and was regularly fined for failing to attend Protestant church. He eventually ran out of money, leaving Lyveden New Bield and the adjacent Water Garden unfinished. He died in 1605, as did his son, who was implicated in the Gunpowder Plot. Although the latter died in the Tower of London it was actually from natural causes.

* We left Kanchanaburi and drove North east to reach the ancient city of Ayutthaya . This city was founded in 1350, it was the second capital of the Siamese Kingdom. It flourished from the 14th to the 18th centuries, during which time it grew to be one of the world’s largest and most cosmopolitan urban areas and a centre of global diplomacy and commerce. Ayutthaya was strategically located on an island surrounded by three rivers connecting the city to the sea. Ayutthaya was destroyed by the Burmese in the 18th century. Its remains, are characterised by the beauty of its prangs (reliquary towers) and gigantic monasteries, which give an idea of its past splendour. The hotel we stayed in was particularly good set on the banks of the Chao Phraya River. With splendid views from the restaurant across to the ancient temple of Wat Phutthaisawan. It looked wonderful in daylight but even more magical at night . I had no tripod but was able to take this by resting on the restaurant table in-between courses . I really go to huge trouble to create these images Haha . It's odd think that this Temple was completed at roughly the same time as Notre Dame in Paris . An indication of Thailands rich cultural history

Wat Phutthaisawan is located on the south bank of the Chao Phraya River. The temple was built in 1353 CE by King Ramathibodi I at the royal residence of "Wiang Lek", the site where he first settled before establishing Ayutthaya as the capital city in 1350. The temple was constructed after his elder brother (the ruler of Suphan) defeated the Khmers and brought them back under the control of Ayutthaya in 1352.

The old temple complex was enclosed by an outer wall measuring 192 meters in length and 92 meters in width. The main Khmer-style prang is surrounded by a square

cloister. The cloister is enclosed by an outer wall, which along with the pillars inside supports the roof. The prang, representing the cosmic Mount Meru, is located in the middle of the ancient compound and is built on an indented pedestal protruding towards the north and south, resulting in a wing-like formation, which was characteristic for prangs of the early

Ayutthaya period.

As long as you don't go in T-shirt and shorts it is a lovely walk along the coast from Arisaig towards Morar, as long as your skin is thick enough to resist the needle sharp spikes and thorns of the gorse/whin bushes you have to thread your way through. There are some beautiful corners and white sandy coves amongst the rocks and splendid views out to the mountainous islands of Rum, Eigg and Skye which lie on the horizon
