Splendid view of Torino during sunset

This is a scene from Red Rocks Park, Colorado. The projection from the rock is an observation deck. Ironically, this deck offers a splendid view of the natural surroundings, and at the same time interrupts the view of the natural surroundings when viewed from below :-)

Vanier Park is a municipal park [with a lovely duck pond] located in the Kitsilano neighbourhood of Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada, created in 1967. It is home to the Museum of Vancouver, the Vancouver Maritime Museum, the City of Vancouver Archives, and the H.R. MacMillan Space Centre. Wikipedia

In addition, Vanier Park offers tourists a splendid view of the city of Vancouver with the north shore mountains as a backdrop.

Enkouji Temple is located in outskirts of Kyoto city and is a hidden gem for enjoying autumn colours and feeling the “Japanese autumn”. The temple was founded in 1601 in the Edo period by Ieyasu Tokugawa, who was later posthumously enshrined in Nikko Toshogu. The temple has a beautiful zen garden with a pond.

This photograph was taken during our trip to Kyoto a few years ago. It captured a splendid view of early autumn foliage in the garden, with different colours of the leaves on the trees and on the ground.

Best wishes for a great weekend.

Of the many different types of windmill: polder mills, grist mills, sawmills, oil mills and malt mills that previously operated in Dordrecht, only one remains: Kyck over den Dyck, a tower mill that projects high above the Noordendijk. The malt mill, which was built in 1713, was later used to grind grain. The last restoration restored this use. The mill operates on Saturdays, the platform offers a splendid view and the shop sells products from the mill including flour and biscuits.

On the north side of this SIM, over the bridge and along the road, is a concrete gazebo with a few windows and chair to rest on while gazing out into the ocean with a splendid view of the lighthouse.

In a weird way this image sort of reminds me of the oil painting "Whistler's Mother".

After climbing Matmora (www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/29640536418/in/datepo...), I spent the rest of the day at other places, to take full advantage of the sunny circumstances that day. This shot was taken at Austnesfjorden rasteplass at the end of the day, with a splendid view all around. But the clouds and the wind were predicting the weather change already. Next day it was raining cats and dogs.

Sant'Agata also known as “The balcony on the lake” because its elevated position offers a splendid view of the town of Cannobio, Lake Maggiore and the Canton of Ticino with its mountains.

Río Verde Waterfall (also written Río Verde Chico Waterfall; or alternatively called Pailón del Diablo Waterfall) is a waterfall in the Andes of the South American country of Ecuador.

It is one of several waterfalls that are achieved by following the Pastaza river route in the Province of Tungurahua. It is a popular tourist attraction because of the surrounding vegetation and the rocks that divide the waterfall.

It is about 80 meters high, and about 20 meters deep.

It also has the most amazing hand-carved stands in the world that lead to a viewpoint with splendid view.

The nearest town is known as Baños, the most important tourist town in Ecuador and is about 20 kilometers away.

***

This attractive place is rich in vegetation such as ferns and mosses, this is due to the humidity that surrounds it. That is why the view of it is characterized by being covered in a green color typical of the large number of trees, orchids, and more.

Like its lush vegetation, the place also has a remarkable fauna among them: machín monkey, spectacled bear, tapir, puma, porcupine, jaguar, guanta, anteater, etc.

The Villa stands with its unmistakable tower in a dominant position on the slopes of Monte Morello sloping towards the plain with a splendid view of Florence.

La Petraia is one of the most charming Medici villas due to its happy location in the landscape, the excellence of its pictorial decorations and the luxuriant nature of the park.

Declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2013, just a few kilometers from Florence, a refuge for the grand dukes of the Medici family.

An ancient fortified building, of which the great tower still remains, was enlarged towards the end of the sixteenth century

After having been on the top of the island, Mount Obzova, I went down to the north-east to take some photos towards the Croatian mainland where some atmospheric phenomena were highlighting.

It is noted that many cumulonimbus clouds are weakened in tufts of ice crystals already from low altitude due to the 0°C thermal decrease to only 1300m.

The precipitation is immediately behind these first peaks of Northern Velebit which are not part of a single sharp mountain chain as it appears from this perspective, but a sort of plateau composed of several peaks, all more or less around 1600/1700m a.s.l., which they develop for a few kilometers inland.

Velebit is the longest mountain range in Croatia, 145km from Senj-Vratnik to the Zadar hinterland.

Peaks visible from here are those closest to the Adriatic Sea, therefore the most visited for the splendid view of the islands below and make up the watershed with the distant Black Sea.

These factors explain its lively meteorology.

We spent our birthdays in Salzburg and enjoyed our day entirely on the beautiful Kapuzinerberg where we hiked and walked in the forest and enjoyed splendid views over Salzburg every time we got to a view point.

Happy Tree-mendous Tuesday!

Corvo Island is, in itself, a vulcano. Caldeirão do Corvo, its most iconic spot, is the crater that resulted from the one volcano, which gave birth to the island, and was probably active for the last time about two million years ago. On the way up to Caldeirão do Corvo you pass by pasture land, separated by black basalt walls or hydrangea hedges, where cows and some wild horses graze, offering – weather permitting – splendid views, with the green of the pastures beautifully contrasting with the blue of the sea. The road, running for about 6 km, takes you to the north-eastern crater rim. From the Miradouro do Caldeirão, a viewpoint at an altitude of about 560 m, the views down to the 300 m deep crater bottom, which can be reached on a path, are fabulous – if there are no clouds, which unfortunately is most often the case. Boasting an impressive 3.5 km circumference, this gigantic crater’s steep walls are covered with greenish-yellowish mosses, the yellowish colour at places being so intensive, as if there were still sulphur vapours emanating. The crater has also two lakes, with a few other tiny islets. Reaching its highest point with 718 m in the south, at the peak Morro dos Homens, the crater flanks slope down precipitously to the sea in the east, north and west where they often drop almost vertically from heights of about 400 m.

In the Autumn Sun we ambled to pretty little Shaffy's Garden near the Cruise Ship Terminal of Amsterdam with a splendid view over de Oosterdok, one of the city's inner harbors. Everything was in Autumn mode, but enough to see anyway.

Here's a Common Blue Butterfly, a female, resting on the heart of a Yellow Daisy. For what she was looking I don't know because there can't have been much nectar in the dessicated flower heart... But if you're hungry every sip helps. And don't forget: too much of any Golden Stuff can easily lead to your downfall, as Icarus of old found out to his sure regret.

Yes, of course... I forgot: anyway, 'polyommatus' is from the Greek and meaning 'many-eyed' it refers to the eye-like markings on the underside of Blues' wings, which you can't see in this photo.

Compared to the previous photo this is lower down the valley and spring is more advanced. The weather was also warmer with some light sun.

At this point the track is part of the Bewerley Industrial Heritage Circular Trail. The trail explores nearly a thousand years of lead mining history while also offering splendid views of the beautiful Nidderdale area.

This track also leads to what was Ivin Waite Farm which is now described as a fully-modernised farmhouse with panoramic views over Nidderdale, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty.

On the horizon, over the end of the stone wall is Blazefield. Blazefield is situated nearby to a lime kiln, and close to Hollin Hill Wood

A time ago, I posted the dark variant (www.flickr.com/photos/115540984@N02/30526955217/in/datepo...), this one was taken a few days earlier while I was driving towards A, where I would spend 5 days to explore the area.

A day later I would make another wonderful hike towards the needle shaped moutain, with splendid views all around.

I will post later from there the view down here.

From the castles of Hohenschwangau and Neuschwanstein there is a splendid view of the Alpsee. It covers an area of almost one square kilometre, with just under five kilometres of shoreline and a depth of up to 62 metres. The lake nestles between wooded mountain slopes in an area of unspoilt natural beauty which was already popular in the 19th century – the Bavarian kings built their romantic castles here on sites originally occupied by the strongholds of medieval knights.

sunset on Reynisdrangar trolls, Ísland

A legend tells that the stacks were formed when two trolls have dragged a three-masted unsuccessfully to shore and turned into rock needles at sunrise.

Hmmm. Now I understand where the name Glenfinnan comes from: Saint Finnnan, He's the Irish guy who set up a pub on the Green Isle in the middle of Loch Shiel. A couple of years ago a bronze bell (for calling 'time') that had been chained to the altar of his chapel on the tiny Green Isle was nicked by a thieving canoeist. Sadly, it has never been recovered. Anyhow, here is another splendid view from the Loch Shiel area.

Petralia Soprana is located in the heart of Sicily, in the province of Palermo.

It is the highest town in the Madonie mountains, it dominates a vast landscape that ranges from the snow-capped peaks of Etna, to the city of Enna and the mountains of Palermo and then the wide valleys and waterways of the countryside that surround it.

A center of considerable importance during the Greek and Carthaginian domination, Petralia was the first Sicilian city to be dominated by the Romans, called "Petra" it was one of the cities that supplied the largest quantities of grain to the Roman Empire.

Following the Arab conquest, its name was changed to “Batraliah” and it became a powerful defensive stronghold at the time of the Normans.

Even today the town still preserves its medieval urban structure intact, with narrow paved streets, churches and noble palaces, suggestive courtyards and linear stone houses that widen into suggestive little squares and splendid views.

In 2018 it was awarded the title of "Most beautiful village in Italy".

The Roman bridge

Here we are at 1425 m ((4675 ft), after a quite steep climb from Notre-Dame-de-la-Gorge chapel 200 m (656 ft) lower. We made a little break, the alp and its splendid view (our reward!) was very close.

This little bridge is named Roman bridge because in the past there was a Roman road passing by.

Millport, Isle of Great Cumbrae, Scotland.

Cumbrae sits in the Firth of Clyde in the West of Scotland and was the strategic base for Customs and Excise since 1745. Smuggling and tax evasion was rife in the port of Glasgow.

Today Cumbrae is a day tripper's idyll. Just a ten minute ferry crossing from the mainland with only one small settlement, the island is popular with cyclists. On a fine day like this, there are splendid views of Arran to the south and the Mull of Kintyre to the West. A gem of a place...

In search of Nature's oxygen resource to recharge our bodies and minds we needed an urgent travel to the outskirts of our home.

The Pic de Casamanya is a pic located in the center of the country, between the Parishes of Ordino and Canillo. Of an altitude of 2,740 m, consisting of calcareous rock. It offers incredible views of 360º on Andorran territory. Its ascent begins at the foot of Ordino by a path that will enter into the middle of the Airola forest. We will climb along the path marked by yellow points to the north, to reach Cap de l'Astrell from where we will have a splendid view of the Valira d'Orient Valley with the villages of Ordino and La Massana

Ein ruhiger See, Seerosen und eine wunderbare Aussicht - ein Abend am See

Location: Holleweg, 8340 Sijsele [gps]

Accessibility: the domain is open to the public, the castle itself is not accesible

The Ryckevelde domain is situated at the border of the village of Sijsele, in the direction of Bruges. It is the largest wood on the territory of Damme. Here we are no longer in the polder area but in the sandy region. This region is by defenition much older than the rest of Damme. The area around Ryckevelde was already inhabited in prehistoric times.

The castle itself is fairly recent and is in a pretty good shape. The neogothic architecture already reveals the era in which it was built. Baron Gilles de Pélichy ordered its construction; the residence was erected between 1913 and 1929. Centrally the spiky tower catches the attention, a chapel is located in the left wing. At the back side there is a spacious garden with a big pond. from one of the numerous benches along the footpath you have a splendid view on the ensemble.

The oldest building of the domain is situated at the other side of the pond. The fortified farm dates back to the 17th century but is largely in a very bad condition except for the right side. This farm has a few remarkable characteristics you'd rather expect in a real castle. At the domain, friar Verleye founded the European Education centre in the 50's of the previous century.

Splendid view of Snowdonia from the top of Snowdon.

Climb and climb, up up up, into the gray, with hopeful expectations of clearing days and fantastic views of the Olympics. I had been here before, maybe 5 years earlier, but not this exact spot. The valleys below often fill with fog and leave a splendid view of glacier peak above the clouds, and it was my intention to hopefully recreate this scene I had seen before. I wasn't a photographer then, so I didn't really capture it. This time we sat in pouring rain, and wet weather for days on end, until eventually it cleared. Everything was in bloom, and wet, and the clouds seemed to come in above and below, with only seldom views of the fantastic alpine around us. We would have gone further, but the snow fields were still vast, and the weather foreboding, so we were content to stay snug in our tent and venture forth when the weather allowed.

The original Venetian lighthouse was built around the late 16th century to protect the harbour. A chain could be connected from the base of the lighthouse to the fortress of Firkas in oder to close the harbour.

During the Turkish occupation the lighthouse fell into disrepair and was eventually rebuilt between 1824 and 1832 in the form of a minaret. The modern lighthouse is often referred to as ' Egyptian' because it was built during a time where Crete was occupied by Egyptian troops who were supporting the weakening Ottoman Empire against the rebelious Cretans.

The base of the lighthouse is still the original Venetian base although the Lion of St. Marc which was carved there has long gone.

The 'Egyptian' lighthouse was leaning badly due to bombings during WWII and earthquakes but it was extensively renovated in 2005 and now looks as good as new.

The lighthouse is located at the end of a long mole that protects the Venetian harbour from the sea. It is well worth walking all the way to the end of it as you get splendid views from the harbour.

Unfortunately the lighthouse itself is closed so you can't go up the tower.
