Blue hour begins to creep over the briar patch.
"Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Daa" and thanks for looking!
Taken near the Haunted Mansion/Splash Mountain area at Disneyland.
I admit that I was probably one of the biggest drips in Disneyland. I think I spent about 30 min. hovering around this fountain while everyone else was scrambling to line up at the rides.
Each sunset is special, but sometimes you get an extra special one. I often chase the sunset through the park to Splash Mountain and I’ve been rewarded with some excellent shots. This may be my favorite of Splash Mountain yet. Enjoy.
It seems we made it back to Walt Disney World after a year and a half absence just in the nick of time as all parks are now closed as of today. On the bright side of being stuck inside for the foreseeable future I have a ton of photos to work on and process. I’m a sucker for a nice sunset so let’s start off with this one at Splash Mountain.
I'm doing the Shirley Temple, Joseph is doing the Judy Garland, and Chrissy is screaming bloody murder! :D
When you get sunny blue skies with gorgeous clouds in Tokyo Disneyland, you better take advantage of it and get all the photos you can. It seems to me that they skies over Tokyo Disney are gray and dreary about 90% of the time.
We're now once again entering my favorite part of the year - the rainy season (if I lived somewhere besides California my favorite part would be the snowy season). What I love about weather like this is the contrast it provides between outside and inside. The warm, glowing windows of the buildings become just that much more inviting when set against the dampness and the biting chill of the outside. So in celebration of my old friend the rain, here's a photo I snapped one (or was it two?) rainy seasons ago.
Edit: Just hit Explore! Huge thanks to everybody who contributed to putting it there :)

It's been a long time since I posted a Disney shot so I figured I'd sneak one in before the onslaught of autumn colour pics :)

Today at DisneyPhotographyBlog.com, I wrote I pretty open ended piece questioning if the DSLR is dying, due to the recent trend of high image quality mirrorless cameras out there. Note that I'm not saying the DSLR is DEAD, I simply question if it is starting to become on its way out. Make sure to head over there and join the conversation! Thanks for looking!

Today, we head back to the Magic Kingdom for yet another shot of the the 24hr event using my trusty, Sigma 35mm 1.4 Art lens. I feel like I'm always talking up this lens but its truly a phenomenal piece of glass. With that said, Splash Mountain is a great ride to photograph at night. The colors that project off this mountain make for some really awesome shots. Whats your favorite ride to photograph at night? Have a great weekend!
I thought the ride Splash Mountain looked beautiful against the night sky with the moon rising so I took a shot.
Then I decided to try and snap one at the exact same time as the ride's flash fired as it took a photo of the people about to go down the waterfall.
It only took 3 times before I caught it!

I love on ride photography. So combining Splash Mountain with a fisheye lens just seemed like something I had to do!
Today's photo tour sends us to the Magic kingdom for a shot of Splash Mountain. Not only is this ride great for cooling off when it's hot but it's also a nice area to get some really awesome sunset shots. This is one of my favorites from my last trip and the sky couldn't have been any perfect that day. What do you enjoy more, photographing it or riding it? Have a magical day!
Today's photo tour sends us to the Magic Kingdom for yet another awesome sunset behind Splash Mountain. I also really like the reflection of the sky in the water as well. The combination of the too really add some uniqueness to the photo. What's your favorite time of the day to ride Splash Mountain? Have a magical day!
I always have trouble naming shots like this where they are multiple elements of different things in a single shot. You have the entrance to Splash Mountain as well as the Frontierland Railroad Station but I opted to just name it after the station as that's really what the photo is mostly of. Ultimately it doesn't really matter except for SEO which I try to be at least somewhat mindful of. Honestly it's something I struggle with and I'm sure I could increase exposure to my site if I was better at it but, eh, it is what it is.
This was shot with a Nikon D810 and Nikon 14-24 2.8. I used a single 15 second exposure as my base exposure and then used a luminosity mask to blend in highlights from an underexposure. I used Nik Color Efex Pro Contrast to give a bit of contrast and pop along with color balancing the foreground. I added some additional saturation and vibrance via adjustment layers and then did some levels adjustments with luminosity masks. To finish off I did some dodging and burning, denoised the sky, and sharpened the foreground. Oh and of course I used my stars trick to make the stars pop a bit better.

Took this shot from the Mark Twain Riverboat. The sun rays are beaming down in front of the cave on the Splash Mountain attraction (after the final fall and big splash!).
Location: Disneyland - Anaheim, California. Along the Rivers of America.
Every once in a while I'll try something different with my editing in an effort to break up the sameness and today's photo is representative of that. When I started working on this shot it was clear from the beginning using my standard editing procedure would have less than stellar results. I spent a bit first building a color palette the image would live in. I then worked on recoloring the image to live in that space. Once that was completed I did a significant amount of dodging and burning to help bring a moodiness to the image. I did a bit of final color toning and then one final round of dodging and burning to get to this final result. I personally really love it and hope you will too!

Oh no! It seems Brer Fox finally dun’ snatched up that ol’ Brer Rabbit! How ever will he get out of this one?!
Sometimes it can seem that life is simply a dream. Sometimes it can be amazing, others it can be horrific. This was one of the good days.
First up today I just wanted to let everyone know I joined Tumblr, so if you are on there be sure to follow me at thetimethespace.tumblr.com
So I named this photo All Quiet on the Frontier but I sure wasted a lot of time waiting for it to be that way. I was hoping to shoot the gaps of people exiting but there was someone sitting on the bricks right in the center of this photo. I thought no biggie, she'll leave soon enough. Noooope, I'm pretty sure her family was nearly the very last ones off the ride this night and of course I'm not going to ask her to move. Oh well, worth it in the end I suppose as I did not have a shot of this area yet and I was determined to get it this trip. Enjoy!

Disneylands Splash Mountain.
I got lots and lots of Disney vacation shots to torture you with...might be best to just look at the Disneyland set. bahaha sorry !! ;)
This is the Walt Disney World version of Splash Mountain which I shot with the Nikon Z7 and 35 1.8S lens. This is an incredible dark ride combo and very light weight. Sharpness is through the roof in comparison to my DSLR and prime lens setups. My only complaint, as has always been the case with the 35mm is it’s a bit too tight for some of the dark rides for my taste. I think that 28mm is the perfect focal length for 99% of dark ride shots in the parks, which is why my Nikon 28 1.4 remains my favorite lens to shoot the dark rides. Additionally, the rendering appears to be just a bit nicer on the Nikon 28 1.4 compared to the 35 1.8S. Of course, the Nikon 28 1.4 is $2000 and the 35 1.8S is only $850 so you’re getting a lot of value from the 35mm.
Unintentionally shot with the aperture wide open, but I really like the 3-d look created by the open aperture.

Monorail Monday, Tarzan Tuesday...Water Wednesday!
On Monday evening, I was at Disneyland with Mike Greening and my son, Justin to photograph the fireworks and Fantasmic. After Fantasmic we went over to Splash Mountain, which was operating for the last time before a lengthy closure for maintenance. Having recently photographed the ride, I was just wandering around watching Mike when I saw this view through the queue fence. In order to photograph this, some prodigious tripod wrestling and camera abuse was required as the fence is about 7 feet tall, and slatted with poles spaced too narrow for a lens to fit through...Since the ride was closed, we didn't have to dodge guests in the queue, and managed to wedge the camera down vertically through the open slots and hang on to the tripod while the bracket cooked-off with activation from my IR remote...
I am pretty sure all that wrestling was worth it, as this entire view is really interesting with the waterfall and log flue visible, framed by that nice grass on the bottom...
