“Trees had spirits; the wind spoke. “. - Jennifer McMahon. This was taken through a side window of a moving car on a very grey day. We spent many hours driving this week to have a quick visit with family for an early Christmas. There really wasn’t much in the landscape to tempt us to pull over to take pictures. That is when I decided to try a bit of ICM with the added motion of the car. At one point, a flock of Swans flew overhead. I captured them quickly while I had my settings adjusted for the ICM. Then I created a composite of the two images. It was a fun experiment and it broke the boredom of a long drive. HSS

Mountain Spirits is a composite image created from 2 images licensed from Shutterstock. The creative work, concept and title are mine. I wanted to do something different from the previous water spirit image and used the same model's face, with one flipped horizontally in Photoshop. The artwork involved some experimenting to see which parts of the model to reveal, and which parts to conceal.. Both the model and the landscape are from the same region.

The Beech Blight Aphid feeds on the sap of beech trees.
The aphids form dense colonies on small branches and the undersides of leaves.
It has a defensive behavior, it raises the posterior end of its body and sways from side to side when disturbed.
Many aphids performing this action has led to this species being called the "Boogie-Woogie Aphid"

These delicate blossoms are long gone by now. I find it fascinating that nature knows exactly when to do things. Timing is everything. Certain flowers and trees bloom and grow (the Sound of Music jumped into my head just as I wrote that!) and then suddenly they change, almost overnight...leaves paint themselves a different colour or fall away; flowers die, drop, become mulch in the undergrowth.
Hopefully with all the havoc we're wreaking on nature, these beautiful, fragile systems won't find themselves so stressed that they change irrevocably.
Enough babbling. It's very late on Friday night here and it's probably time for bed, but not before giving you some flowers for Friday.

I was working in my small studio/dinning room with my light tent or light box yesterday. :-) I have a beautiful glass vase that was a special gift, it has some really interesting patterns and cuts in it. I started to shoot it and then I wondered what kind of patterns I might see if I intentionally blurred it. I noticed a form right away that to me looked like a veiled lady, very ghostly, you can see what looks like part of her arm, shoulder, breast and a veiled face. Next to her with his back to her which my husband pointed out looks like a knight in a chain link face shield. I thought it was pretty cool. Sorry for the winded

Lake Minnewanka ("Water of the Spirits" in Nakoda) is a glacial lake in the eastern area of Banff National Park in Canada, about five kilometres (3.1 miles) northeast of the Banff townsite. The lake is 21 km (13 mi) long and 142 m (466 ft) deep, making it the 2nd longest lake in the mountain parks of the Canadian Rockies (the result of a power dam at the west end).
The lake is fed by the Cascade River, flowing east of Cascade Mountain, and runs south through Stewart Canyon as it empties into the western end of the lake. Numerous streams flowing down from Mount Inglismaldie, Mount Girouard and Mount Peechee on the south side of the lake also feed the lake.
