Light weight spindle and a Niddy 'pinne. The handle of this Niddy Noddy can be used to make centre pull balls of wool - f.i. make a single yarn into a centre pull ball and directly ply the yarn back onto the spindle - after which the plied yarn can be wound into a ready-to-knit ball of yarn.
Handig?

This spindle took a little bit of getting used to. I must say that fiber prep is key when spinning on this type of supported spindle. I hand carded the fiber and made it into rolags. It wasn't until my last rolag that I started spinning and drafting. Before that, I was parking and drafting! LOL!

Three of the shutter spindle bushings are visible. Two are on the left, the brass gears partially visible under the levers (with a slot screw in between them, nearer to the top one). The other two spindles are on the opposite side of the center of the bottom. One of them is visible as the brown brass ring (with the spindle end visible in it) at around 8'o clock position of the brass disc in the right half of the photo. The fourth spindle is directly above this one, but hidden below the plastic gear. The spindle can be barely seen by looking at from a slanted angle.
This blank came from an online distributor called Got Wood?. I loved buying from that place. They had all intriguing collection of domestic hardwood blanks. (Burl is not available for spindle shafts, sorry.)

The brightly coloured fruit of the spindle tree (Euonymous europaeus). The wood, because of its hardness and straightness was used in the making of spindles for making wool.
I've been freaking out my colleagues again this dinnertime, creeping about the office with my camera! The natural light coming in through an open door into the stairwell was quite magical on the turned spindles of the staircase.
