An enticing yellow Iris, beckons you to like? LOL
In Flowers' language: Iris means faith; hope; wisdom and valour
In Fine Arts: the lenses also have an iris diaphragm which can be opened and closed to control the amount of light reaching the film.
Iris can also mean:
* The sphincter around the pupil of the eye, the iris is the most visible part of the eye, when photographed with a flash, the iris only reacts to protect the retina, and not fast enough to avoid the red eye effect.

We drove down to Denali National Park and Wilderness Preserve on Sunday, Mother's Day. What was intended to be a relaxing day was anything but. We should have known better than to go yesterday, but we went anyways.
Normally, we stay away from Denali during tourist season because of the crowds. We prefer going where no one goes, but we do venture down to the Park in off season.
We seen the usual, moose and caribou, and there were a few people stopped to watch them. We went further on and there was a traffic jam, maybe 15 cars parked watching a bear on the hill. It wouldn't have been so bad if the people parked their cars on the side of the road, but no, in their haste and excitement, they parked their brains in their sphincter and not only parked in the middle of the road, but left their car doors open. It took us a few minutes to get through the congestion, and we parked along the side of the road a few hundred yards down the road. It was pathetic to watch, cars were hopscotching down the road, following the bear. The poor bear was on a hill and wanted to cross the road, but the cars would not let him.
Finally, the bear was right out our window looking at us, I snapped a few photos, this being one of them, then the cars and foot traffic surrounded us.
It took us another five or so minutes to get out of the jam again, we turned around where we could and waited, soon the traffic all passed us, so we knew the bear was out of sight. We left the park, disgusted at the people who park their brains when the see wildlife.
We may try Denali again on a weekday, but we have other places to go where no one goes.
I still can't hike like I used too before I got sick, but we did manage a small hike at another spot on the way home.
If you're a beach bum you can really get into waves - but I never know what I'm going to get with fog.
I'm not very good with early mornings unless I'm on holiday - sounds crazy I know, but being a photo crazed addict has kind of turned my priorities upside down.
On the way here there was no fog until I got up high onto the Hog's Back (thought the fog was supposed to be down in the valley but like I said I always keep an open mind because you never know).
I didn't have to get up til 6.00 which is pretty civilised (& why I like these short days), plus the weather looked promising - (clearish sky, low temperature & no wind can sometimes equal mist or fogginess in varying degrees of surprise & in random places)
10 minutes after this the Sun had risen a bit higher & the waves disappeared to be replaced by whiteness everywhere & none of this view was visible.
Gradually the Sun burnt the fog away afterwards.
In addition to this live geography practical lesson, I also learnt some other things ( I learn something new every time I come out).
Having been turned from a reasonably law abiding citizen into a serial trespasser by my camera, I'm pretty used to being told off by farmers and gamekeepers even though I haven't actually been shot yet, but I don't usually photograph in places like parks or where there are loads of dog walkers.
To get this, I parked near the top of the hill in Guildford and walked up through the grass to this spot by the big pylon.
I understand how Pavlov could train dogs to drool by ringing a bell, but another conditioned reflex that isn't used as an example is how when a dog gets out of a car and sees long grass, it causes a reflex at the back end of the alimentary canal that causes a dog's sphincters to relax completely.
If you want to drive home in a clean smelling car, always keep your eyes peeled & stay on the path on the way back to the car - because if you go off-piste in the long grass, the frequency of treading in something that needs to be scraped carefully from underneath your shoes rises exponentially the closer you get to the car park! - trust me on this one! :)

As promised a close up of the Wombat. I was hoping it would look up from eating and waited as long as I could but it was too busy grazing to notice me.
Wombats are marsupials and native to Australia. We have three species, one of which is endangered. They are about 1 m in length with small, stubby tails and weigh between 20 and 35 kg.
I will give you two interesting facts about wombats
-Wombats produce cube shaped poo that they leave as a marker often on wood or rocks. How and why the poo is that shape has always puzzled scientists. Just recently research has shown that the cube shape is formed within the intestines – not at the point of exit, as previously thought (square shaped sphincter ?!). They found this out by investigation of the muscles inside the intestine and using mathematical modelling. The team discovered big changes in the thickness of muscles inside the intestine, varying between two stiffer regions and two more flexible regions. The changes in muscle thickness, in addition to the drying out of the faecal material in the distal colon, produced the distinctive shape.
-Wombats are most closely related to Koalas. I think when you see the face of a wombat you can see the resemblance.
I bought them in tight buds, and waited... and one just opened ahead of the others!
Timidly they are unfurling, holding the promise for tomorrow!

As we set off to the Isle of Wight, a glance back to the mainland, as we leave Portsmouth. 14th August 2016.
This photo was taken on the beach of Katwijk aan Zee.
Oystercatchers and various types of seagulls are looking for food along the coast.
The oystercatcher's diet consists of shellfish, worms and crabs.
In shellfish, before the shell can close, the sphincter muscle is first cut, after which the prey is eaten.
After a failed attempt, an attempt is made to hammer open the shell on a hard surface.
Most gulls, especially those in the genus Larus, are carnivorous and eat both carrion and live prey.
The prey animals usually consist of crabs and fish.
Larger seagulls can also sometimes prey on freshwater and sea birds, but also on pigeons or jackdaws.
I needed to pee,
so I was running to the public restroom in the subway.
But the lights on the street across from me
instantly caught my eye.
I stopped and tried to take a shot.
However, the people were obscured by the cars driving on the road.
I stood for a while waiting for the cars to disappear from the street.
Meanwhile, my bladder was becoming
more and more swollen.
When the flow of cars finally stopped,
I took a quick picture.
And then I ran to the bathroom, tightening my sphincter as much as possible.
When I got home,
I saw the result of the photo.
As expected,
it was confirmed that
the screen shook the moment the shutter was released.
1/60th of a second was a time of tension and conflict for me.
I don't even know what this means...
If a spider is injured on the abdomen (opisthosoma), it usually amounts to a death sentence. Spiders have an open network which means its arteries carry haemolymph, the arthropod equivalent of mammalian blood, out into the tissue spaces where it diffuses past individual cells before being collected back into the heart. There are few, if any, veins in this system and definitely no capillaries. So if there is an injury which causes an opening in the side of the body, this fluid leaks out and the animal dies. Losing a leg or two is a different ball game altogether. At the joints of the legs the spider has sphincters which close off therefore saving the spider from bleeding to death.

43102 leads 1B63 16:45 Nottingham-St.Pancras, seen here passing Harrowden Junction on the 22nd of April 2021. I was glancing at RTT nervously for about 15 minutes, as this was running slightly late, and a Luton-Tunstead freight going in the other direction was a tad early, and looked set to clash in this vicinity. The freight was bearing down on me from behind before I could even see this HST, and at the moment of this shot, the 66 was literally behind my shoulder. Another second or 2 and this shot would have been scrap!
'You're not a funny clown' he said. Pointing his finger at me, jabbing his pudgy didgets into my chest. 'You're a horrible, unfunny, messed up clown and I want you out my house now!'
I said nothing. What could I say? I wasn't funny, I was a mess, I was pretty horrible. Hell I was half drunk (if not more) by the time I got to the stupid kids party and then I helped myself to a few of the fat Dad's beers before starting my show. That last fact may go a long way to explaining why I made phallic rather than animal shapes out of those goddamn shape shifting balloons. Nobody but me found that very funny.
So yeh, as much as I hated doing what this wobbling suburban prick said, I knew I was in the wrong. I also knew if a sharp exit wasn't made then that little under-current of domestic violence that I sniffed in the air would soon be a full blown tide that would carry me away.
As I turned to go, I caught myself in the hall mirror. It was gaudy and tasteless. A spit worthy approximation of some never happened classical era that this jellied fool of a Dad was no doubt so very f*cking proud of. But still, I stopped for a second and saw past all that expensive tat and looked right at me. 'It's funny' I thought, 'ain't it amazing how on these bad days, all this make-up and pizazz just looks like so many old cuts and bruises".
Not funny ha ha. But funny somehow.
A pudgy finger pressed into my back. It was all I could do not to turn and spray some vodka from my button hole flower into his jowel quaking face, but I refrained.
'The world needs clowns' I thought to myself 'this guy knows nothing'. I would get another job, another pay packet and another blissful bottle of beer somewhere else. The world needs clowns you see. Someone to be better than. Someone to laugh at. A little relief when things get tense, a little punchbag when the sphincter is twitching with all that caffeine addled stress. Only problem with that is, who do the clowns get to laugh at?
I looked in the mirror one last time before the door closed behind me. 'Not funny' I thought 'not funny at all'. Who do I get to laugh at? Where do I go when I hear the call? The world needs clowns, but don't you ever wonder what the clown needs'
Nah, of course not, not if you don't need to, no if you don't want to. But still, next time you see one of us just think about how much all that shining makeup just looks like so many old cuts and bruises. If you're still laughing after that, well hell, you're a lower person than I'll ever be.

Often mistakenly called a "Koala Bear," the Koala (Phascolarctos cinereus) is not a bear at all, but a marsupial. Like kangaroos they have pouches, but their pouches are angled downward and held closed by strong sphincter muscles, ensuring that their babies don't tumble out!
Perhaps the most ultimate of picky eaters, koalas possess a keen sense of smell that they use to find the best-tasting of eucalyptus leaves. Even though there are hundreds of kinds of eucalyptus, they will often eat only two or three of their preferred varieties. Also interestingly, while these plants are poisonous and difficult to extract sustenance from, koalas' stomach bacteria help pull about a quarter of the nutrients. Still, this monogamous diet doesn't provide much energy and koalas--like this one--can be found sleeping for ~20 hours a day!
This koala is a resident of the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC.
Last year I uploaded a photo of a sea anemone I had photographed in Santa Bárbara. This one lives in the Central Coast Aquarium in Avila Beach.

The name Iris is Greek and it means rainbow for its many colours. However, most irises are shades of blue or purple. The majority of irises that we see today are hybrids of the originals.
The iris has been around for many centuries, and many artists have chosen to paint them. There are several famous paintings of the flowers. From 1888 to 1890, Van Gogh painted at least four paintings of irises. Monet painted "Iris" sometime between 1914 and 1917.
Not only is the iris a beautiful flower, but also they have several uses. As a live plant they are used as a water purifier. They are ingredients in some perfumes, homemade toothpaste, pottery and herbal medicines.
The stylised iris, fleur-de-lis, descends from the white iris which is native to Florence, Italy and which grew even in its city walls. This white iris, displayed against a red background, became the symbol of Florence until the Medici family, to signal a change in political power, reversed the colours making the white one red and setting in motion a centuries-long breeding program to hybridise a red iris. Catherine de Medici carried this symbol of Florence to Paris when she married the king of France where this most famous of irises acquired its nickname, fleur-de-lis.
The iris has been associated with France as Louis VII adopted it as a symbol in the 12th Century.
Contemporary uses can be seen in the Quebec flag and on the flag of Saint Louis, Missouri.
The iris is now the sole feature on the flag of the Brussels-Capital Region.
The Iris is the state flower of Tennessee.
Furthermore, it is the almost universal symbol of Scouting.
In Flowers'-language: Iris means faith; hope; wisdom and valour

Don't call. We let it burn for weeks. Who knew there would be 50 mile an hour winds? - NPS
Grants Lake - 10 Lake areas after 2 weeks of ignored reports of fire in Yosemite. The winds blew straight for Yosemite Creek and The Valley and boy the sphincters pinched hard. Probably why they closed the the park. A fire on the valley floor would be a death trap. One way in, one way out.
The people in the photo were openly crying. They'd had been watching the fires since they started and Yosemite closed.
That evening I returned to The Valley through here and wish I'd stopped and took a picture. Red skies, no wind and the smoke was just wafting straight up over the whole valley from ridge line to ridge line. Looked like one of the circles in Daunte' Inferno.
That's Okay, we can replace them with cellphone towers!
Handheld - If you haven't been to Yosemite lately, there isn't much left, Foresta to The Valley entrance is gone. See em before they burn.
Another angle on a sea anemone I saw at the Central Coast Aquarium in Avila Beach.
I took the wrong camera that day, hence the chromatic aberration worthy of a Vermeer painting...;-)

A gentle arm curve creates a soft frame around the dancer’s head.
Fifth Position is a world famous ballet pose.
Fifth position or bras en couronne (arms like a crown): both arms are rounded and held above and slightly forward of the head.
Bought a mixed bouquet, saw just the tips of the yellow Irises, to my amazement, the center turned out blue, not seen that before, thus photo-session with my new elegant models.
This definitely spoke of ballet ...
I don't talk to flowers, they talk to me and I gladly listen!
In Flowers'-language: Iris means faith; hope; wisdom and valour
In Fine Arts: the lenses also have an iris diaphragm which can be opened and closed to control the amount of light reaching the film.
Iris can mean:
* The sphincter around the pupil of the eye, the iris is the most visible part of the eye, when photographed with a flash, the iris only reacts to protect the retina, and not fast enough to avoid the red eye effect.
* The equivalent device in a camera,
* The messenger of the gods in Greek mythology
* A variety of flower,
* A female first name.
I wish you a good day and thanK you for your visit, so very much appreciated, Magda, (*_*)

It's also about the mindfullness required to muster all of the sphincter muscle power you can harness to prevent farting or worse, sharting, when in class!!!!!!
Pax Americana (Poem), 2005
A tupid sense of seriousness has tightened the sphincters of America
Thus the fools, tricksters and coyotes jest no more.
With no trepidation the Television trepanation hits hard all generations alike
This nowadays includes fags and dikes.
Illness and war and where do I get my next car
TV promises instantaneous something but it sucks America dry
And renders every one in the herd an individual
Every citizen, just another tomato ground to paste into our colossal consumerism
Red Ketchup droplet of individuality
Lousy squirt and divided sense of Oneness
Should I celebrate with The Panchos
And whatch it all go "Up in Smoke"
Or just get "On the Road"
Visit Tangiers
and enjoy a "Naked Lunch"?
Alas, Alas... Who was it that said it?
Was it the Emperor Palpatine or the President?
Imposible concentration.

Ducks have many economic uses, being farmed for their meat, eggs, feathers, (particularly their down). They are also kept and bred by aviculturists and often displayed in zoos. Almost all the varieties of domestic ducks are descended from the Mallard (Anas platyrhynchos), apart from the Muscovy Duck (Cairina moschata). Many domestic breeds have become much larger than their wild ancestor, with a "hull length" (from base of neck to base of tail) of 30 cm (12 inches) or more and routinely able to swallow an adult British Common Frog Rana temporaria whole; the wild mallard's "hull length" is about 6 inches.
FAO reports that China is the top duck market in 2004 followed by Vietnam and other South East Asian countries.
In many areas, wild ducks of various species (including ducks farmed and released into the wild) are hunted for food or sport, by shooting, or formerly by decoys. Because an idle floating duck or a duck squatting on land cannot react to fly or move quickly, "a sitting duck" has come to mean "an easy target".
Wild ducks of many species and domesticated breeds are widely consumed around the world.
Ducks as pets are fairly uncommon due to the cost and demands of raising and caring for them and whether local animal control laws permit or forbid the public selling and private ownership of ducks, ducklings, and fertilized duck eggs. Ducks are usually kept outdoors or inside a cage since it is unsuitable to let them roam freely indoors due to the risk of eating carpet fibers, which can be a health hazard to them, and their lack of sphincter muscles which would require carpet-less flooring and frequent cleaning up after them.
Cultural references
Roman spout in shape of a duck's head, found at Derby racecourse and now at Derby Museum and Art Gallery.
In 2002, psychologist Richard Wiseman and colleagues at the University of Hertfordshire, UK, finished a year-long LaughLab experiment, concluding that of all animals, ducks attract the most humor and silliness; he said, "If you're going to tell a joke involving an animal, make it a duck."The word "duck" may have become an inherently funny word in many languages, possibly because ducks are seen as silly in their looks or behavior. Of the many ducks in fiction, many are cartoon characters, such as Walt Disney's Donald Duck, and Warner Bros.' Daffy Duck.
This was a pretty exciting trip. I give this the highest sphincter-factor rating of any sight I've see so far. If you are afraid of heights, don't even think about it!
On animal excrement, Hartland Moor, Dorset. What have i come to? Taxonomy gone mad,,, this has gone from a sphincter to a butterfly in one fell swoop.

While the visual cortex in the back of the brain assembles the images we see, a different, older part of our nervous system manages the continuous tuning of our pupil size, alongside other functions like heart rate and perspiration that operate mostly outside our conscious control. This autonomic nervous system dictates the movement of the iris, like the lens of a camera, to regulate the amount of light that enters the pupil.
The iris is made of two types of muscle: in a brightly lit environment, a ring of sphincter muscles that encircle and constrict the pupil down to as little as a couple of millimetres across; in the dark, a set of dilator muscles laid out like bicycle spokes, which can expand the pupil up to 8 millimetres approximately the diameter of a chickpea.
Cognitive and emotional events can also dictate pupil constriction and expansion, though such events occur on a smaller scale than the light reflex, causing changes generally less than half a millimetre. But that's enough. By recording subjects eyes with infrared cameras and controlling for other factors that might affect pupil size, like brightness, colour, and distance, scientists can use pupil movements as a proxy for other processes, like mental strain.
