So many exotic Iris variations that it is easy to spend hours photographing them.
After spending a few days in the vicinity of Whooping Cranes, our next destination during our first trip of 2025 was South Padre Island and the Rio Grande Valley.
A pretty reliable bird sighting at the South Padre Island Birding and Nature center is Black-bellied Whistling Ducks. Here are five of them.
Yes, this is the Columbia River Gorge, no, its not a fire shot, or an after the fire shot. We were out in the Gorge the minute they opened I-84. It was actually still very much on fire when we were there. The damage was evident, it seems the hikers who go back into the Gorge will be most effected, back there its all just gone. Near the road they did a good job maintaining a lot of the green. They intentionally set a lot of back fires to burn up the fuel but maintain the tree story above. That means it should grow back fast. The Mayor of Hood River was on the radio up here begging people not to stay away. He said the best way to help is to come spend money at the small towns up and down the Gorge as soon as you can get in there safely. He made a great point. He said there will new trails, and new views, for new experiences. Yes, it will be different, but not destroyed. Guess there is some merit to that optimistic view.
We certainly. The view in this picture should be largely unchanged for everyone after the fire. I wanted to post this image to share that with all of the non-Portland folks who share a love for this fantastic resource.
Spending time with beloved people is always wonderful, but in times of Corona it is a gift. Today Easter will passing by and I thinking about the meaning of Easter, but,..., no imaging to miss one of friends or one of my beloved family is horrible. And the hope to see as again, somewhere, our souls, after our death, can't help me really.
So let me thank for a wonderful time, together, in peace and with healthy!

Schloss Burg (auch Schloss Burg an der Wupper) ist eine ab dem späten 19. Jahrhundert rekonstruierte Höhenburg im Solinger Stadtteil Burg an der Wupper. Die Anlage war seit dem 12. Jahrhundert die Stammburg der Grafen und späteren Herzöge von Berg und ist heute das Wahrzeichen des Bergischen Landes. Zugleich ist sie eine der größten Burgen Westdeutschlands und die größte rekonstruierte Burganlage in Nordrhein-Westfalen.
Im Hochmittelalter war sie eines von vier Zentren der Grafschaft Berg und fungierte als Hauptresidenz der Grafen von Berg, verlor diese Position erst 1380 unter Wilhelm II. von Berg an Düsseldorf. Schloss Burg wurde von der unterdessen in den Herzogsstand erhobenen Herrscherfamilie anschließend noch als Jagdschloss genutzt, ehe in den 1660er Jahren Schloss Benrath vor den Toren Düsseldorfs gebaut wurde. Infolge des Dreißigjährigen Krieges geschleift und bis 1807 nur noch als Sitz eines bergischen Kellners und Richters genutzt, verfiel die Anlage immer mehr und verkam zu einer Ruine. 1887 gründete sich ein Verein zu ihrer Erhaltung, der schon bald den Wiederaufbau der Burg zu seinem Vereinsziel machte. Durch Spenden, Lotterieerlöse, Unterstützung durch den Rheinischen Provinziallandtag, den Bergischen Geschichtsverein und das deutsche Kaiserhaus konnten die von 1890 bis 1914 dauernden Wiederaufbauarbeiten finanziert werden.
After spending a glorious day in the Dandenongs with my friend Monique, and discovering the Alfred Nicolas Gardens for the first time, I was so inspired (well more like obsessed) by all of the beautiful Autumn colour that I couldn't wait to get back there and so less than a week later thats exactly what I did.
It had been a crazy week and I had decided to take a Friday afternoon off from work and head back there. Unlike the previous week when it had been cool and wet (but still so beautiful), the sun was shining and the skies were blue! There was barely a soul about and it almost seemed as though I had the 13 hectares of gardens to myself . . . it was heavenly!
I wandered along the treelined paths and made my way to the lake which we hadn't had a chance to visit the week before and as I turned the corner and descended the steps, there before me was this sight . . . this 'Opera of Colour' as so beautifully named by my dear friend Jilly.
It was like a painting before my eyes . . . I had been magically transported into a world of stunning Autumn colour and mirror like reflections.
As you see it here, is as it appeared before my eyes . . . I have not used HDR or enhanced the colours in any way!
It was truly breathtaking and well worth another visit!
Just returned from spending a week and a half in Alaska visiting my sister and brother-in-law, and hoping to photograph the northern lights (stay tuned on that). One place I knew could be photographed no matter the weather was the Castner Glacier Ice Cave. This is a six exposure HDR image. A couple I met at the cave were nice enough to pose at the entrance to provide scale. There is a partially frozen stream that runs out of the cave. In the winter, it freezes over completely, but in the fall the ice is thin ... as I found out the hard way, but no harm no foul on that. Delta Junction, Alaska, USA, November 2021

Sethi spends the day on the sofa. Outside it's very windy and the weather seems to change every few minutes. Better to stay at home and do what cats do best. :)
Fynn is quite okay. After yesterday's dental surgery he is tired and sleeps a lot but the bleeding of the wounds has stopped. He is still drooling heavily but eats well and it doesn't seem to be too painful for him. The vet appointment for a check-up is next Monday provided that everything stays stable.
After waiting spending almost a couple hours in the siding at Smithton to meet Amtrak Train No. 316, UP train GBNLOP-04 continues west towards Kansas City on the UP Sedalia Sub, former Mo-Pac territory, as it charges over hogbacks into the line's namesake town. Once back on the move after being stuck in the hole, they didn't waste any time trying to make it as far as they could to KC. However, they'll have to go in the hole again at Lee's Summit to let Amtrak Train No. 319 run around them.
It was looking like the rest of the chase would be under overcast skies, but we were quite surprised when the sun came back out, proving some very dramatic storm light.
Leading the train is Canadian National's British Columbia Railway heritage locomotive, which is making its debut in these parts. Following behind it is a CN ET44AC and a GTW SD40-2. This is my first time seeing one of CN's heritage engines on a train, and out of all of them, this was one I wanted to see the most.
This is a run through grain train that originated on the CN at Decatur, IL. It was interchanged to the UP at East St. Louis, IL, ultimately bound for Optima, OK. 9/5/22.
After spending some time watching the five cheetahs unsuccessfully chase both wildebeest and zebra,back and forth across the veldt, we decided to move on.
Time was getting late and we would soon have to head back to camp.
This is the wonnderful alternative to seeing a successful Cheetah hunt

After spending the night playing around Mt.Rainer, we ventured into the fog down below. Like a blanket to the Sunday snoozer, it stuck against the landscape tight! Even though neither of us could hold our eyes open, the sight of this phenomenon instantly put energy drink sales at a stand still....

皆様ご存知のように色々ありましたが、最近は気持ちが落ち着いてきました。
すごく悩んだり苦しかったりしたけど、今が一番穏やかで、幸せに過ごせています。
私と一緒にいたい為に彼はアカウントを変えず、人に何を言われてもそのままでいてくれます。私はその勇気と強さを感じます。
私がどんなに暴れようが、気持ちをぶつけようがすべて受け止めてくれました。

After spending the night 90 kilometres north in Lebel-sur-Quévillon, coming back empty handed -- I decided to make a quick stop in Senneterre trying to catch the arrival of 574 from Parent, I sadly was 15-20 minutes too late.
However, I caught 5330 actually working, being used on the 0700 yard job. Catching a glimpse of sun, the yard crew is seen shoving a handful of cars in track AS04. The engine is smoking quite badly due to the injector that blew two nights earlier, but it still gets the job done.
I would've loved to shoot it getting rare mileage on the Matagami subdivision instead of tucked away amongst the wires of the Senneterre yard but hey, it's better than nothing!

I spend a good deal of time now standing still and just observing, I was watching a fox in the grass on the hillside hoping it would come out in the open. Suddenly this Eastern Bluebird flew onto a branch right in front of me. He seemed unconcerned that I was a few feet away and looked for insects on the ground. One of those "moments" :)
After spending a very pleasant morning with Andy, I was walking back along Cross Street in Manchester to catch the tram home; from St. Peter’s Square, where else would it be? Heading in that direction I was walking directly into the sun when I spotted the rim lighting on these silhouetted pedestrians. I quite liked the effect it had on their hair, hats etc., so I took a picture; and nearly got run down by the cyclist…..!
Hank will spend hours in the garden hunting butterflies. Unfortunately, for him, fortunately, for the butterflies, he isn't much of a hunter. Not only does sit in plain sight of all and sundry but when he does decide to make an attack it has all the grace of a charging rhino. No sneaking up on something for this fellow but rather a full out run for the finish. Oh well keeps him amused and the garden visitors safe.

Happy Fence Friday, Everyone!
After spending time up on the hill at Črnotiče I moved to the other side of the station to see trains coming down the ramp towards Koper.
After seeing a Taurus and a pair of light engines the light was getting lower and some clouds were forming and I was considering taking the Taurus as a victory and leaving. However the sound of a horn got my hopes up. SZ 363-027 rounded the bend with the sun and clouds playing ball with a car train for Koper. You can see on the hillside just how close the clouds were getting so this shot turned out to be a very nice end to a very good first day in Slovenia.
