The final build in a four-part collaboration between Halhi and I for the 2020 Summer Joust's collaboration category.

This build was a ton of work, involving some extensive re-building at several points, but I'm really happy with how it's turned out. Unlike with most builds, I fully "sketched out" this build with basic bricks and then went replacing each portion with a more detailed version. The most complex part is the wooden "X" section on the right house, which required tweezers to work on.

For the lighting, the flame and the lantern aren't done with any fancy editing effects, but with actual flashlights shone through black brick walls with small transparent brick windows.

And before I forget, a big thanks to Halhi on this one, since he gave me feedback on no fewer than 23 work in progress shots for this build!

Overall, a lot of thought went into the storytelling and continutity of this collaboration, so see if you can follow the subtle threads from each build to the next!

..You can only spend it .. so don't rush through .. take your time and enjoy the moment ..life is not a race (even though Viru Sahasrabuddhe aka Virus (from the movie 3 idiots ) may not agree with this ) ;-)

Editing : Healing and contrast adjustment in Snapseed and Picasa... I was contemplating cropping but decided against it

After spending a couple of hours switching at the town of its namesake, BNSF's Parachute Local gets underway back to Grand Junction near Una siding, CO. Todays train was a real treat, as leading the return trip was GP50 No. 3132 still carrying its Burlington Northern cascade green livery. Paired with the 'Geep' was B40-8 No. 528, which was seen at Denver earlier in the trip. The train also had a pretty long load which is not always the case.

After spending the night in Beatty, we stopped by Rhyolite ghost town on our way back into Death Valley. I think this was JP and Jenni's first time here.

Rhyolite is a fun stop, but it has become rather well known, and can be a tad crowded. This building is the old railroad depot. It's private property and fenced. I've never beed inside.

In one corner of the property, someone had mutilated the fence enough to just poke your camera through. There were some power lines in the shot, which I removed in Photoshop. Processing was done in Lightroom.

If you are interested in reading about Rhyolite, check out the Wiki page: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rhyolite,_Nevada

after spending almost every second together for two years, my girlfriend and I experienced a massive change in our lives. we both changed jobs, and now we have to adjust to not seeing each other every minute.

but it's not just the physical distance that's been hard. the change has also made me realize that I've forgotten how to be just myself. I've never been good at social interactions, but having her by my side made everything so much easier. I have to admit that it's been a struggle to get out of my bubble called comfort zone and reactivate the self-confidence I've built throughout the years.

the thing is, I've always relied on my girlfriend to be my support system. but now that we're apart more often, I'm forced to confront my own insecurities and find other ways to cope. it's not easy, but I know it's necessary for my personal growth.

even though she's not physically with me, I know she will always be there to help me achieve my dreams. and I will do the same for her.

Spending a long weekend up in SW Buckyville, so I figured I’d shoot my shot at crossing a couple railroads off the hit list. After slamming the Iowa River, I shot a couple of IC depots en route to Shell Rock hoping to find something working. I was delighted to find one of their two paired slug sets working the south end of Butler Yard. I hung out for a few hours shooting various angles of that job, before needing to blast off toward Cedar Falls, Dubuque, and points east.

Spending the best part of the morning at a viewpoint on the Ben Venue pathway near Loch Achray with the glowing morning light in October. Could not get any better than this. So many photographic opportunities.

Spending a few days R&R in Kent, we visited Rochester Cathedral. I reflected how different one cathedral is from another, my favourite still being Chichester Cathedral.

Rochester struck me as being both sumptuous and restrained in its décor. My eye was immediately drawn to the warm red of the kneelers/cushions in the choir stall, and the magnificent wooden carved ends of the pews.

Spending some contemplative moments at Junction, before the mists come to claim the realms once again.

After spending hours up at Delicate Arch in Arches National Park waiting for the milkyway to rise above for some time lapse and photos. It was already 3am in the morning when I headed back down to the parking lot after miles of hiking on the Delicate Arch Trail. But the starry night sky is still nice and bright. Even though I was already pretty tired after the waiting and hiking, I told myself that it was a great opportunity to keep shooting. I drove to another area in the park by the Window Trail Loop to take some more shots. It was already 3am, I walking into the trail and took some more photos. The landscape here is very interesting like you are on another planet. Almost a little creepy when you are alone around 4am.

Happy Truck Thursday!

Spending our summer holiday in the German Mosel area (you can see our tent at the far right in this picture). It was a beautiful quiet summer evening and the river was like a mirror reflecting the landscape. The light was perfect and we found a great spot on top of the bridge for shooting a panorama.

And we did.

But with an extra: ... suddenly 2 speedboats entered our view from underneath us producing a whole lotta noise.

Although it was only for a breath moment, I think the presence of the boats adds a kick to this otherwise maybe dull image.

Spending time at Isle of Pandasia , Dolly (221, 136, 23) - Adult

Chester's in the foreground, with Sweet Pea taking up the rear. Tank's siblings, so I'm kinda like their Aunt. =)

I came into their house to let them out lunchtime. Chester came down, but Sweet Pea wouldn't, so up I went to see what was holding her up. Turns out, it was the comfy bed. She just didn't want to get down and go out. So I popped off a few shots and then coaxed them both outside. They are as adorable in real life as they look in this pic. Don't let Chester's expression fool you... he was loving this, because treats always follow!

In fact, that's what he's eyeing right now. =)

It's a glorious day today and I've been outside gardening for hours. I'm dead tired and, therefore, posting what I have on hand. Here are some of the treasures I bought at HomeSense last week.

Most of the "silver" things, on the mantel, came home that day.

Three more shots in comments and more to post in future. ;)

Spending hours to catch one light.. worth it!

No huge processing, some noise reduction at ISO4000 but the lightnings do the rest

Spending the afternoon along the banks of the mighty Mississippi River in good sun is always fun. On this day, CPKC threw a string of northbounds bound for St Paul in great afternoon light. Here we see CPKC train 261 making its way north with KCSM 4507 leading the way.

All ways near even when so many miles apart.

After spending the night in Newton, IA, and upon packing up the car to head east, I turned on the scanner and immediately heard the IAIS 510 copying a warrant for the CBBI to head east out of town! Well, what's any good railfan to do in this situation but to give chase when there's good sunlight, and parallel roads?

As such, the final shot of this mini-chase was in the quaint, Iowa college town of Grinnell, where we see it crossing over the old M&StL. Recently, THAT line has been seeing all of the railfan attention due to the presence of a patched ex-SP GP60 on the Oskie local, but it turns out that the Iowa Interstate DOES still run trains through there.

After spending several days shooting around the Canadian Rockies and Abraham Lake we were down to our last evening before heading home. Having already some great weather conditions and light the past few shoots, I was pleased with my photo haul. However, the partly cloudy skies all afternoon set the stage for a potential last hurrah.

Following the light and the ice conditions, David, Alan, and I ended up at the southern end of the lake. This windless afternoon temperature felt much warmer than the frigid -25C degree morning. I ultimately settled on a small area that offered multiple compositions with different groups of bubbles. The particular was my favorite: it had different shapes and sizes as well as the stacked pancake bubbles.

Although the light never exploded in full out burn as we had hoped, the side lighting sunset did provide some beautiful pastel colors in the clouds and the mountains tips. It was quite the present to conclude our Canadian Rockies adventure.

Don’t you just love the English Summer, especially when you get the chance to spend a day with friends, buses and the lovely warm sunshine. Myself and Mark joined Terry, Woody & Graeme (fellow Flickrite) at junction 13 on the M5 northbound (Stroud) on board Woody’s Midland Red S23.

The S23 was on its way up to Wythall (BMMO Museum), for Kevin (Brush Painter) to work his magic and put her back to “As Delivered” condition. We were shown some wonderful hospitality by the chaps at Wythall and can’t thank them enough for making us feel so welcome this afternoon. We even got to walk around the workshops, sheds and were given a guided tour by the very knowledgable Maurice.

The S23 wasn’t the only reason for going to Wythall, as the Devon & Dorset Group had been up three weks earlier with Terry’s Devon General LHS, and were needing to go up and pick her up after receiving its Brush Paint!

The LHS looks FANTASTIC, and I cannot praise Kevin at Wythall enough for the work he does, well they all do!!!!!

We are back up to Wythall in two weeks time, when we bring Mark’s Metrobus down from Reliance Bus Works. We have been kindly invited into Wythall with the bus and the group for an afternoon tea stop!

I shall post some pics of the S23 once she has been done, as the plan is to drop Woody’s Duple bodied Leopard off at Wythall when we pick up the S23, and when the Leopard has been finished, My Tiger will be going up to be vinyled into “National Express Venetian” livery!

Having to spend some time in Milan for work, I took the chance to bring my camera and spend my free time looking for new strangers.

After a failed approach with an American lady, I noticed the wonderful Yulia walking around the Duomo area. Yulia comes from Russia and is living and working in Milan as a model. Her Italian is fluent and dealing with her was such a pleasure. After a few test shots, Yulia re-arranged her hair and gave me some amazing expressions. During the set, we stopped some random passengers to help us with the reflector: that was fun:)

Thank you Yulia, I hope you like the result

Spend a large part of Saturday walking along Murlough Bay. The weather was just about perfect - except for the wind. If we could have another 8 weeks of this kind of weather it would be totally awesome.

Katasraj temple is a Hindu temple situated in the Chakwal district of Punjab in Pakistan. Dedicated to Shiva, the temple has existed since the days of Mahābhārata and the Pandava brothers spent a substantial part of their exile at the site. The Pakistan Government is considering nominating the temple complex for World Heritage Site status. It also proposes to spend about Rs 20 million in three phases for the restoration of the complex.

Most of the temples, located some 40 km from the modern city of Chakwal in the Potohar region of northern Punjab in Pakistan, were built during the reign of Hindu kings. These several temples were built around 900 years ago or more, although the earliest of the Katasraj temples dates back to the latter half of the 6th century A.D. Scholars believe that most of the temples were actually constructed when the Shahi kingdom, driven from Afghanistan when their ethnic cousin Mahmud of Ghanavi came to power, fled to the region and set up base there.

The temple was abandoned by local Hindus when they migrated to East Punjab in 1947. It has always been the site of holy pilgrimage for people of various faiths. Even nowadays, worshippers from all faiths perform pilgrimages to the temple every year and bathe in the sacred pool around which Katasraj is built.

The Katas site houses the Satgraha, a group of seven ancient temples, remains of a Buddhist stupa, a few medieval temples, havelis and some recently constructed temples, scattered around a pond considered holy by Hindus. The temples at Katas are mostly constructed on square platforms. The elevation of the sub shrines seems to form a series of cornices with small rows of pillars, crowned by a ribbed dome.

The Ramachandra temple is situated to the east of the Hari Singh Haveli and is closed from all sides except for an entrance on the east. The double-storied structure has eight rooms of various dimensions on the ground floor and a staircase at the south leading to the first floor. The temple has two jharokas (balconies) that have been severely damaged.

The Hanuman temple is on the western extreme of a high rectangular enclosure with entrances on the south and the north. The temple's ceiling is undecorated, and lime-plastered. The Shiva temple is also built on a square platform. Its entrance is a recessed round arch with faint cusps and a rectangular opening to the north.

Katasraj temple complex is believed to date back to the Mahabharata era. There are stories about the Pandavas spending time there during their long exile. The lake in the complex is believed to have magical powers and supposed to be where Yudhisthira defeated the Yaksha with his wisdom to bring his brothers back to life.

Spends its summers in Alaska, Canada and parts of the Western US. In the Winter however, the Orange-crowned Warbler heads for Mexico and Southeastern parts of the US. I love these friendly little guys and they are such a welcome sight to see each year here in Southeast Texas both in the woods and at my feeders.

I mentioned in an earlier post that Godwits spend a lot of time fighting and somebody commented "Sword-fighting presumably?" Well this shot really shows them sword-fighting with the right bird making a hit, hence the title "Touché!". Touché is also used euphemistically during a discussion when a clever point has been made at the other's expense.

Birds usually only fight when there is something worth fighting for, like a mate, a territory, or scarce food. So it seems odd that a gregarious species like Black-tailed Godwit would spend so much time fighting when it isn't the breeding season and food is around if they searched for it. This was taken at Martin Mere where large numbers of Black-tailed Godwits spend the winter.

One final thing; the last time anyone said "Touché!" to me was after he had complimented me on my photography then asked me what camera I used. Instead on answering I told him about the discussion between Ernest Hemingway and Ansell Adams, the great landscape photographer at the launch of an exhibition of his work. Hemingway said "You take some Goddamn fine pictures Ansell, what kind of camera do you use?" Ansell replied "You write goddamn fine stories Ernest, what sort of typewriter do you use?"

Spend all your time waiting for that second chance

For the break that will make it ok

There's always some reason to feel not good enough

And it's hard at the end of the day

I need some distraction oh beautiful release

Memories seep from my veins

They may be empty and weightless and maybe

I'll find some peace tonight

In the arms of an Angel fly away from here

From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear

You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie

You're in the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here

So tired of the straight line, and everywhere you turn

There's vultures and thieves at your back

The storm keeps on twisting, you keep on building the lies

That you make up for all that you lack

It don't make no difference, escaping one last time

It's easier to believe

In this sweet madness, oh this glorious sadness

That brings me to my knees

In the arms of an Angel far away from here

From this dark, cold hotel room, and the endlessness that you fear

You are pulled from the wreckage of your silent reverie

In the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here

You're in the arms of an Angel; may you find some comfort here.Sarah McLachlan

Spending a wee while on his/her own !

Spending two weeks there for my brothers weeding :)

After spending most of the day (April 27) in the Waterpoocket Fold and after hiking Muley Twist Canyon we drove Utah highway 12 to near Upper Calf Creek Waterfalls trailhead where we spent the night at an unimproved campsite on BLM property a short distance off of the highway.

Tuesday April 28 Steve and I got an early start for Upper Calf Creek Waterfalls trailhead. I left my vehicle at camp and road with Steve the short distance to the trailhead. The hike was short and pleasant in the cool morning air. The light was poor for waterfall photographs, but there were some nice wildflower and an an unexpected pair of cinnamon teal. By the time we climbed the final stretch back to the trailhead the air temperature was much warmer than when we started down the trail to the waterfalls. Good that we got an early start.

After hiking to the Upper Calf Creek waterfalls we drove to Escalante, but not before finding that my battery was did. After jumpstarting my vehicle we drove to Escalente. Steve knew of a auto repair shop so I had my battery tested and also had a slow leak in a tire repaired. The battery was fine. One hour and $22 latter I was on the road. I can't get this kind of service in my home town. Wish I could remember the name of the repair shop.

At that point Steve and I went our separate ways. He started driving back to his home in Washington. Before taking off Steve shared some great places that I should visit.

I headed for the Lower Calf Creek Trail and hiked to Lower Calf Creek Falls.

After spending an hour out by the Connecticut River I started home and planned to hop off the Pike in Palmer for breakfast. A quick check revealed Q264 was bearing down on town so I figured I'd try for one grab shot. As I headed toward my favorite spot at old MP 83 I heard them call the signal as they rounded the curve approaching the NECR diamond. I had just enough time to pull and hop out with my truck still running and the door open to grab this three way meet shot.

Q264 (Buffalo to East Brookfield auto racks) has two units on the head end for a change as it passes the pair of geeps on L012 (old B740 the West Springfield to Palmer local turn) sitting in the yard and tbe DP locomotive on the rear of Q436 (Selkirk to Worcester manifest) the controlled siding while they make their set out.

Thirty seconds and three trains on the old Boston and Albany. I'll take it!

Spending the week in the Lake District with Lauren and Rona.

We're having an amazing time despite the morbid expressions, promise!

I spend a lot of time in Photoshop obscuring clouds and skies, especially in architectural photos as I find they can be distracting. Here however the sky is the photo. This was taken near the end of daylight hours from Box Hill, one of the higher view points in Surrey. The light suddenly started to shift from dark to light and back again as these monster clouds rolled across the landscape. It was quite magical. As you'd expect it didn't last long but I managed to squeeze off 15 or 20 shots.

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

I spend a ton of time looking at the Moon, and this is, in fact, the first time I've happened to catch an airplane-lunar transit.

And what an airplane it is: that's most likely the HC-130 from the 920th Rescue Wing from Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, and if you look closely, you can see that the loading (and maybe, in this case, unloading) ramp is down/open.

I was in the backyard trying to shoot the 89% illuminated waxing gibbous Moon through the trees, and this plane came into view. I didn't have time to switch equipment (I had the right lens but the wrong, full-frame, camera), but it all worked out well enough.
