Label on a circa-1991-model Eureka Mighty MIte canister vacuum cleaner destined for the recyclers. The three-horsepower figure appears to be mathematically based, using a formula taking into account its motor's extremely fast 21,000 revolutions-per-minute speed and minuscule torque. A little bit of research confirmed this figure was meaningless; a more meaningful specification, the airwatt, was developed to provide a better gauge of performance and, in conjunction with motor wattage, efficiency.

I was lucky to find out just how fast the motor spun to look into this horsepower claim. The vacuum's motor bearings were making loud noises, so I took it apart to try lubricating them. (My first paid job was repairing vacuum cleaners, around the time more plastic components found their way into the appliances.) I was able to get this difficult-to-service (and no longer available as a replacement part) motor running smoothly again, but only for a short time. While bench-testing the motor, I used a photo tachometer aimed at the fan hub to obtain a full-speed reading. Unfortunately, after reassembling the vacuum, the bearings started to make noise again, so I decided not to spend any more time working on the unit.

This was one of three labels on the vacuum, along with the data label and an inspection sticker on the underside.

A label printer cartridge itself needs a label to describe the product.

The Harrower-class Dreadnought is for me one of the most appealing Star Wars ships. This Star Destroyer type is the capital ship of the Imperial Navy in the game “Star Wars The Old Republic”. The LEGO version is based on the cinematic model rather than the in-game version. You can see the ship in the trailer “Return” or in this picture.

It took 5 months to design the ship. After the design stage was finished and all required parts had arrived it was time to rebuild the Harrower. While rebuilding I took a couple of WIP pictures which I posted earlier. As you can see the ship is now finished. It stands nicely on top of my bookcase.

On April 2nd, 2009 HSL-47 "Saberhawks"transitioned to Helicopter Maritime Strike 77 (HSM-77)

MH-60R Seahawk

The MH-60R is designed to replace the SH-60Bs and SH-60Fs, and be a true multi-mission helicopter. Its sensors include the ASE package, MTS-FLIR, an advanced airborne fleet data link, and a more advanced airborne active sonar. It does not carry the MAD suite. Pilot instrumentation will be based on the MH-60S’s glass cockpit, using several digital monitors instead of the complex array of dials and gauges in Bravo and Foxtrot aircraft. Offensive capabilities are improved by the addition of new Mk-54 air-launched torpedoes and Hellfire missiles. All Helicopter Anti-Submarine Light (HSL) squadrons that receive the Romeo will be redesignated Helicopter Maritime Strike (HSM).[11]

The Fleet Replacement Squadron (FRS), HSM-41, received the R-model aircraft in December 2005 and has begun training the first set of pilots. In 2007, the MH-60R successfully underwent final testing for incorporation into the fleet. As of August 2008, the first 11 combat-ready examples equipped HSM-71, a squadron assigned to the USS John C. Stennis (CVN-74). According to Lockheed Martin, "secondary missions include search and rescue, vertical replenishment, naval surface fire support, logistics support, personnel transport, medical evacuation and communications and data relay.

I wonder how many barbs there are in the miles of barbed wire fencing in Australia?

The sun makes a brief appearance on an otherwise rainy day in Nitro, West Virginia as a solo GP works a local on the Kanawha River Railroad, sorting out cars in the small yard here. After starting life as a Southern Pacific GP35, this locomotive went through one of Burlington Northern's rebuild programs emerging as a GP39V, indicating it was rebuilt to GP39-2 specifications by VMV.

London cab specifications were set by the Public Carriage Office of the Metropolitan Police, and for many years the police also controlled certain aspects of London bus specifications. Nowadays this is all controlled by Transport for London (TfL).

Curious requirements for many years were that a cab must be able to carry a bale of hay as equivalent minimum luggage capacity, and that a 'gentleman' must be able to wear his top hat inside the cab. The required turning circle was 25 feet (7.62 metres).

Beardmore had been a popular taxicab builder in the 1920s and '30s, and were also a Glasgow shipbuilding company and built lorry chassis including an early articulated lorry in conjunction with the French company Chenard-Walcker, better known for racing cars.

The Windover bodywork uses aluminium panels on a timber frame with a steel bonnet. The brakes use components that were also used in the Jaguar XK I20 sports car. Beardmore sold just over 650 of this Mark 7 cab before ending production in 1966.

This 1955 Beardmore Mark 7 London taxicab, YPK 237, is on display in the London Bus Museum. Note the luggage compartment.

The original specification for the Juno spacecraft did not include a visible light camera - the main instrumentation was designed to measure atmospheric and gravitational parameters.

The Junocam was only added in as an afterthought with the idea that the images could be made available to citizen scientists to process the raw data.

This is my processing of a transit of Io captured by Junocam.

ENGLISH:

According to Eigtved’s master plans for Frederikstad and the Amalienborg Palaces, the four palaces surrounding the plaza were conceived of as town mansions for the families of chosen nobility. Their exteriors were identical, but interiors differed. The site on which the aristocrats could build was given to them free of charge, and they were further exempted from taxes and duties. The only conditions were that the palaces should comply exactly to the Frederikstad architectural specifications, and that they should be built within a specified time framework.

Building of the palaces on the western side of the square started in 1750. When Eigtved died in 1754 the two western palaces had been completed. The work on the other palaces was continued by Eigtved's colleague and rival, Lauritz de Thurah strictly according to Eigtved’s plans. The palaces were completed in 1760.

The four palaces are:

- Christian VII's Palace, originally known as Moltke's Palace

- Christian VIII's Palace, originally known as Levetzau's Palace

- Frederick VIII's Palace, originally known as Brockdorff's Palace

- Christian IX's Palace, originally known as Schack's Palace.

Currently, only the palaces of Christian VII and Christian VIII are open to the public.

Amalienborg is guarded day and night by Royal Life Guards (Den Kongelige Livgarde). Their full dress uniform is fairly similar to that of the Foot Guards regiments of the British Army: a scarlet tunic, blue trousers, and a navy bearskin cap. The guard march from Rosenborg Castle at 11.30 am daily through the streets of Copenhagen and execute the changing of the guard in front of Amalienborg at noon. In addition, post replacement is conducted every two hours.

When the monarch is in residence, the King's Guard (Kongevagt) also march alongside the changing of the guard at noon, accompanied by a band that plays traditional military marches. The Guard Lieutenant (Løjtnantsvagt) is always alerted when Prince Henrik or another member of the royal family are reigning in absence of the Queen. There are three types of watches: King's Watch, Lieutenant Watch and Palace Watch. A King's Watch is when Her Majesty the Queen takes up residence in Christian IX's Palace. A Lieutenant Watch is when Crown Prince Frederik, Prince Joachim, or Princess Benedikte, takes the place as regent, when the monarch is unable to. A Palace Watch is when no member of the royal family is in the palace, and it is the smallest one.

In order to facilitate the planned assault on Saradia, the Azmiri Defense Ministry was thrilled to be presented with the "War Goat Amphibious Landing Craft". Assembly was performed by lower caste Azmiri children and most of the material required to build the craft was stripped from the long abandoned U.S. embassy.

A spot for the future perhaps, but I saw this Journey on the same day as the black Chevrolet Orlando and thought I may as well document. This is probably the entry level specification, given the wheel trims and smallest engine optiion.

Something I have learnt is that the 2.4 motor in this one, is a 'World Gasoline Engine', part of the 'Global Engine Alliance'. Basically something initiated by Chrysler with Hyundai and Mitsubishi to create a family of engines with the same basic structure and parts but with the flexibility to offer capacities ranging from 1.8 to 2.4, Not a particularly ground breaking enterprise, and I don't recall anything remarkable about either their power, efficiency or reliability. Something I didn't know about though.
