focus stacking.

One of my special shots, taken with frozen hands, on a still night, with a somber atmosphere. A monument that has a link to what we are seeing today. Here a right-wing terrorist killed 168 and wounded 800 people.

on a dark winter's day, I created myself an aurora borealis...which I've never seen in person, but certainly would love to!

We don't often get chance to witness such an awesome event on our doorstep. But yesterdays extremely high tide, combined with windy conditions, created a fabulous opportunity to capture some stunning images.

There was a large number of people who came to witness this event, along with lots of my fellow togs. Hope those who made it came away with some special shots.

Levantarse a las 4:45 para fotografiar esta conocida localización, y más después haber estado un par de veces en ella es de locos. Ahora pensaréis que viene el pero, pero no. Es de locos. Solo los que lo vivimos con la misma intensidad me entenderéis. Seguramente si hubiera ido 1 hora más tarde no hubiese conseguido este ambiente en edición, aunque la verdad es que buscaba otra cosa, pero se dio vagamente. Intenté alguna panorámica y alguna otra en las pozas que hay detrás del puente, pero con lo que me gustan estas atmósferas no me he podido resistir.

Desembocadura del Xallas. Galicia.

Shot this a while ago on a Northern California trip. A small book by Carr Clifton (a real life working pro you might look up to) was what inspired me to visit this place. Seeing the lupines here worked out as a nice foreground lure and it was pretty windy but still went for it. I'm surprised I was able to catch them sharp in the frame but now when I look at them I can feel them. Sorry no glow added here, don't use that.. . ever. I do have a few more sitting in the chamber from this spot and hope to share them sometime soon.

Sin lugar a dudas el lugar más bestia de Euskadi y alrededores es este del cañón de Delika desde donde se puede ver cómo te viene encima el salto del Nervión, al que no le hace falta presentación. Madrugamos @jorgereyazabal , @rafadiez78 y yo mismo para intentar pillar color en el cielo, pero la previsión se retrasó y nos llevamos los picos teñidos del color del sol. Cuando llegamos hasta allí me llevé una grata sorpresa al encontrarme con @jesusrsrc . Otro tan loco como nosotros

Ya hace algún tiempo que he dado libertad a mi cerebro para disparar en horizontal. Cuántas fotos chulas habré perdido por la tiranía de Instagram. Landscape on the Isle of Skye, Scotland.

It was difficult to get a 'special' shot of this amazing place on such a dull overcast day so I decided to scale a hillock and include some people in the shot for scale.

The Fairy Glen is so named for the simple reason that the area looks a little unearthly. It has nothing to do with fairies, or so they say... It's like a Quirang landslip but in miniature. The heavily worn path on left of frame climbs a little to a basalt topping of the tallest of the outcrops just here. A great vantage point I am sure but, sadly, my ankle wouldn't take the gradient. The spiral of stones is a tourist creation that the locals keep clearing away to try to keep the area as natural as possible.

I imagine in beautiful light the place looks extra magical but, under these clouds, I didn't feel like taking too many shots. I just wanted to sit upon the damp grass and soak in the peace and atmosphere of the Fairy Glen.

0 grados, lluvia, viento, nevada, muchas nubes bajas que dejaban ver el monte intermitentemente, y un rato con solo muuucho frío que nos permitió salir del coche a intentar unos pocos disparos. El viento no me permitió dejar el primer plano tan “crunchy” como me hubiese gustado, pero como me pasa muchísimas veces… una excusa más para volver la próxima primavera, eh @mardonss ?

An old but very special shot (to me) that brings back great memories of our 4WD trip across the Victorian High Country. Composed of 4 images taken with my Canon PowerShot and stitched together.

You go by these places every day looking for that special shot somewhere else. I keep telling myself to breathe deeply and slow down. (Main Brook, Newfoundland, Canada) (You might like this shot big.)

Out with the ELCC Marauders, this is the resident male Canvasback normally on the fishing pond… I saw him swimming in the middle pond around some reflected orange light in the water and waited for him to swim through it… pretty cool; makes for a special shot!

An early morning in New Zealand in the middle of winter is about 7a.m., with sunrise at about 8:30. I'd planned this trip to see if I could make something special out of these willow trees I had seen before, but im just not sure. I love the way the little willow tree stands out as the main focal point, the cloud in the background looming above the mountains and in the middle of the mountains, the reflections of the willows in the water... but I just wish the jetty on the left was out of the picture altogether to keep with the minimalist feel of this image, although could add some more interest in this photo for some. 6 months of planning this composition, and I think the only thing I could have done better would be to be further back with a zoom lens and longer exposure (which I hope comes out on my film camera - a 2 minute exposure)... one day, if I can afford the $3000 180mm lens for my linhof I might come back.

Anyways, I still thing this is a special shot... just wondering what it is missing from it.

Merry Christmas and a good and healthy new year to all f you!

Late dusk at Capanna Regina Margherita. Now I'm going to edit the special shots I took 5 years ago which need a bit more effort.

The panorama was made from 8 single photos. First I merged 2 photos from each 4 single exposures due to the high contrast of the scenery in Lightroom. After optimization of the two files they were merged in photoshop.

At the left side we can see Liskamm and Breithorn in the foreground with Montblanc and Grand Jorasses behind at the horizon. At the rigth side we can see Matterhorn and Dent Blanche as the dominating mountains in the background behind some snowy hills in the foreground that are belonging to Dufourspitze. I was working with the Leica M and the Zeiss Planar 2/50 ZM.

Well, I am over the moon about this encounter. I was on my way to Elk Island and I spotted three dark birds thinking that they were Crows or perhaps Ravens. One post after the other were occupied. Well, I slowed down and was absolutely delighted to find that they were Turkey Vultures.

I have only ever seen one once before and at the time did not realize that there was a bird in tall grass in front of an abandoned building that I was shooting from the highway. In processing I found it and am pretty sure it was a turkey vulture. So although I had seen one before I am still considering this a Lifer.

In full disclosure, this is a composite of two shots taken after each other. In one shot the head was a wee bit sharper. I wouldn't consider it a focus stack, but more of a composite. Normally I would not bother with something like this, but it is a special shot for me, and who knows if I will ever get a better opportunity this close in.

Anyways I am super thrilled. I am not sure how accurate my colour balance is as the air was smoky and the the sun through the smoke made for an orange cast. You can see how the colour is so different on the post from the part of the post that holds a cast shadow from the bird.

This is Miss Blondie Smith #6 who is the gentlest and kindest cat in this home. But a funny capture of her mid-meow makes her look ... well ...

You know my group is open to everyone ... just read the instructions. No one has ever supported me, but that's okay. If you have a special shot, artistic edit, something other than a snapshot ... I'd love it if you would share!

i fould a lion pride crossing a dam under a light rainfall.

as the light was not good i used a very low shutter speed.

although the very high iso(12800) i have been able to avoid motion blur and i got the long drop effect.

sometimes bad conditions can be used for a special shot.
