Blue-winged teals (Spatula discors, Anatidae) about to land in Waukau Creek.

 

I was out checking on the eagles the other day when these two blue-winged teals (Spatula discors, Anatidae) landed in the golden waters of Waukau Creek just in front of me and under the eagles' nesting tree.

Rather uncommon and very shy duck. It prefers shallower and smaller ponds with dense vegetation. One of the most beautiful ducks with remarkable wing feathers and stunning head plumage.
