A glittery possibility for the Looking Close on Friday theme of “curves”. But I actually went with the warm brown monotones of the chair for the group pool.
We took the boys to a park today near the lake. I didn't make it to the water's edge, but instead found a little pond covered in a water plant with little red-tinged leaves. Gave the most gorgeous sparkle in the late afternoon sun!

The Duluth and Superior skylines sparkle on a clear night, pulled together by the Blatnik bridge which connects the two cities. In the foreground, one of the yard jobs is dumping on Dock 6, adding to the massive stockpiles of taconite at the docks while they are closed to marine traffic until the shipping season resumes in March. Absent a ship, DMIR 408 does the honours with a clear view of the dock lit up and illuminated ice formations providing a pretty neat perspective at night.

A SPARKLING SPIRAL... in water, more to follow and I'll show you where this detail comes from... some of you may recognise it?
It was a thrilling shoot and I want to thank Paul for all the help and the shared enthusiasm. The fun continues!
This year I saw how many round objects there are in our home, so, now that we are back on Winter time, it is dark very early, the weather's gone bad, I've had plenty of time to think and be creative in the studio once more.
Glass is one of the most difficult substances to photograph; my challenge is to use the reflections in a positive manner so that they add to the image.

I love the emerald green colors often seen in waves. And if you look closely in this photo, you can see the spray sparkling in the morning light. Almost like a precious jewel.
The Sparkling Violetear (Colibri coruscans) is a dynamic and territorial hummingbird, often found in high-altitude regions of South America. This individual, photographed in Roncesvalles, Tolima, Colombia, was captured mid-flight as it fed from a vibrant fuchsia blossom. The interplay of iridescent greens and deep violets across its plumage glowed under soft, natural light, creating a striking contrast against the pastel tones of the background.
Freezing the motion of this fast-moving species required precise technique. A high shutter speed was essential to capture the rapid wingbeats without blur, while maintaining just enough depth of field to keep the bird and flower in sharp focus. The shallow background blur enhances the subject’s prominence, allowing its intricate feather structure and shimmering colors to stand out. Moments like these challenge both patience and reflexes, making the final image all the more rewarding.
